thats completely false..i was a little nervous about why they were calling when my friend from 20 yrs ago got a message to me..however the debt was valid they provided info and after i paid it..i got my letter which took longer than told previous however since then havent had any calls..seems to be good..gentleman i spoke with mr.small was very polite and respectful..remember theyre a collection agency...every collection agency ive dealt with before had similar views..much easier to pay and get it out your lives..i looked up their attorney and actually was able to talk to him after asking repeatedly to do so..their not scammers may need to work on professionalism

This is exactly the same message I got from a Mr. Paris at Peach Tree Law Center.  He left a message with my co-worker that I should give a call back within two hours "or else".  He also referred to himself as a paralegal

I have never heard it taking 7 - 10 days to reverse an unauthorized withdrawal from someone's account.  The Management and Staff of Peach Tree Law Center should be locked up.  Their operation is very dubious and shady bordering on criminal.  Whilst they acknowledge that they are responsible for the unauthorized withdrawal of funds from my account, they have no intention of refunding me my money.  On the few ocassions that I was fortunate to speak with the General Manager, Mr. Shaun Olsen, his response is always "let me call the bank to see why it is taking so long for me to get my credit".  Sometime when you call, the operator after establishing who you are repond that he is in a meeting trying to clear up the glitch in the system that caused the unauthorized withdrawal of funds from my account.  Not too sure these are real names but I have spoken to the following persons to try and have this matter resolved with has not been to date.  This fiasco started on Monday, June 27th.  They are: Darnell Ward, Shaun Olson, Ms. Reese, Mr. Paris, Jeffrey Hinds.

They all need to be investigated

It seems that we have all had similar experiences with Peach Tree Law Center.  They started harrassing me a few month ago on my job.  I would get about 18 calls per day from them.  They have been very abusive and threatening to my collegues that answered my phone.  A Mr. Parris once sent me a threatening message via my co-worker that I should call the office within two hours "or else".  A Ms. Reese called my home and had discussions with my husband regarding money I owed to them.  They are crooks and should be shut down.  The Attorney General should contact a Mr. Shaun Olsen who claims to be the General Manager and asked about unauthorized funds withdrawn from people's account and the feeble excuse that it was a glitch in their system having changed "vendors" they are not prepared to reverse the charges.  What I found very strange that this happened to me in June and I was doing some research about Peach Tree Law Center and noticed that on 5/16 a very similar situation occured to another person.  I have filed fraud charges and intend to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office.

Got a call from my mother stating that they called her about a medical claim I was part of.  They needed to hear from me right away so that they could make sure I could claim my rights to any settlement.  I received a v-mail yesterday…it was clearly a collection call.  It’s a skip trace/collection effort.

I got a call from them last week. I realized what they were and I told them to do what ever they have to do. today a woman called my job and said that today was the day that they would make their desision. I told her do what you have to do, she satarted calling my job right back over and over again asking for Human resources. I finally transfered her after I told her that would get her no where. She was very rude and started provoking me inot getting mad. I just hit trasfer, a few minutes later I got a call from himan resources, they told me she claimed that I cussed her out whwn she found out that they would not be able to give her any information. Really upset me. So becareful, If a person from there calls try to get their address. I tried but she wouldn't give it to me because she knew that if I got it I would send them a certifide letter to stop harrassing me at work and if they contunied I would sue them. Keep trying.

A Anthony Martinez called a co-worker of mine who I apparently used as a reference for a Quick Cash loan over a year ago. Told him it was to resolve a case and they needed to speak to me right away.  I told him to tell them I was dead if they ever called again.  He left a phone #800-741-7582, ext 108 and a ref #.  Heard about these freaks on 20/20 and their harassment tactics and how they threaten to arrest people if they don't pay.  They have no legal authority anywhere to influence the police. I suppose if I try to call them back and hit that extension it will record my cell# or house #.........piss on that - I'll call them the next time I'm at a hotel!

"Awareness is the most effective defense for a lot of things in today's society. Thankfully we do have internet forums to alert our fellow citizens of these facts during these tough times. These predators prey on your fear are hoping for ignorance. Spread the word".

One of the most intelligent posts I have read in recent memory. Thank you.

While there are legitimate collection agencies who do follow the law, there are scores of others who operate with impunity---and make no bones about the fact they have and WILL continue to operate in this fashion as long as there is money to be made and the government agencies(s) charged with guarding the henhouse does little (or nothing) to stop them. Currently there is NO incentive for these predators who have become unconsciously profitable off roughing up unsophisticated consumers and making their lives an interminable hell in the process. They know the penalties for violating existing consumer protection laws amount to little more than a slap on the hand and are "just another cost of doing business". A multi-million dollar fine and an empty promise "not to break the law again" means absolutely NOTHING to the Wall Street behemoths who back these predators with mountains of
cold, hard cash, powerful attorneys and lobbyists who pay those officials who are responsible for the oversight of and potential overhaul of the 34-year-old debt collection laws to do..... nothing. And, since it is painfully obvious that our government has NO intention of reigning these predators in anytime soon, it is up to each and every one of us (as this poster has stated), to keep ourselves informed in order to protect ourselves. There are several good sources on the internet. One is: http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/index.html. Another is: http://www.privacyrights.org/Debt-Collection. And, as always, a consumer law attorney is your best bet and can be found at: http://www.naca.net/

If someone is calling you from a so-called "Law Center" as stated above and are threatening you about a debt you know NOTHING about, be very aware that you have NOTHING to fear.

See the website of the FDCPA (put in place by your government to protect you from these scammers, as well as keeping real debt collectors in line...):
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/cons...edit/cre27.pdf

They say they access a "police database"... They say you might be arrested... They say you have to "by law" abide in what they are telling you to do... They threaten with any kind of tough talk... ALL WRONG! See section 807...

You want them to cease immediately? Cite (and follow through with) section 809 of the FDCPA...

On the other hand, there are penalties for violating these laws. See section 813. Have a pen and paper ready to log each FDCPA regulation that they violate. Better yet, if it is within your legal right and availability, record the call. When you have these violations logged, turn them into your State Attorney General... GO AFTER THEM.

Awareness is the most effective defense for a lot of things in today's society. Thankfully we do have internet forums to alert our fellow citizens of these facts during these tough times. These predators prey on your fear are hoping for ignorance. Spread the word.

I am a self employed individual who has for years received all kinds of messages, calls, emails, pertaining to these types of scams. Quite frankly I'm sick of it. None of them have fooled me, but quite frankly a lot of them are an annoyance and can waste time if you let them. It's easiest to just hang up on all of them with an abrupt "do not call here again!" However, not everyone can afford to do that, as some really are in trouble with debt and some of these calls may be legit. Therefore, it is good to be well acquainted with the above site, and be prepared to take action of your own. Most often, the real debt collectors can be just as rude and violating of these rights as the scammers. They can ALL be held accountable for violations.

So, good luck people. Fight fire with fire. If almost everyone knew about these laws, these scammers would indeed fade away. Especially because of what can be done according to section 813. Scammer would be busted, and some of the bad apples in the real collection agencies would fold from paying so many fines.

Just and FYI.....these scam artists are in both Colorado and Georgia, as well as a couple of other states.  They are complete scams and use illegal procedures to get money from non-suspecting folks.  I never thought I would be one caught up in this, but they got me.  Several years ago, my husband lost his job and we had a lot of debt to clear up.  They called my mother, then my work and I returned their call.  They said it was done during that time period and, of course, being at work I was distracted and just went "well maybe I missed something".  The first payment when through as was agreed upon and then a second went through a couple of days later taking 4 times the amount of the first one.  Cleaned me out.  They also threatened legal prosecution, arrest, having to pay over $4000 if I didn't agree to pay the $500 owed, etc.  After much extensive research....these guys are scammers.  And they are good at what they do.  I am an accountant and to catch me....well, let's just say...none of us is safe from these idiots.

So my mom receives a phone call from this Mr. Winston. Claims he needs to speak to her immediately about a very serious legal matter they have in their firm. Leaves his number 800-668-6163 x103. I call him back to find out why he is harrassing my parents, he claims it is me he is looking for and claims he has to record our coversation so I tell him that I will do the same. He comes up with a "debt" from 2005 where he claims I "bounced" a check. This NEVER happened. He continues to tell me that the debt is for $825 however his firm has to charge me for their efforts another $1800 making it $2625, and asked how I would be taking care of this today? lol then he says that they can accept the $825 now and that I can make payments on the other $1800. I tell him that IF he wants to mail me this information I will look at it with my lawyer and figure out why they are accusing me of this debt, he tells me that he will not do that. He says that he can email me some information but if Im not willing to do that then he will have to proceed with serious actions. I sarcasticaly said "then you go do that and have a wonderful day"! Ive had my credit problems but Im on top of it now and I know what I owe and this is not it. These people try to take advantage of innocent people that are trying to fix their credit by making them believe they owe something that they dont.... Be careful people.

Received a message from a Mr. Young from the Peach Tree Law Center wanting me to contact someone whom they thought I had some contact with to tell him that within two hours they would be making a decision about a legal issue concerning this person.  This Mr. Young, no first name, inisisted that I tell the person they were looking for to call 1-800-668-6163 to discuss the matter.  When I asked what this issue was about, I was told that it was a legal issue that they could not talk about and the I should just contact this person.  When I asked who the client was, this Mr. Young told me that the Peach Tree Law Center was the client they represented.  Very vague and very suspicious.

These people called my granddaughter, telling them that I was in legal trouble. I called them and talked to a "Mr. Gilchrist".  He said that I had 1 hour to resolve this or the lawyer would file papers.  I told him that I would call him back.  I did, but with MY lawyer on the line.  She began to ask him questions and he became irritated.  She asked him to fax the debt information on their letterhead so that we could verify the debt.  He said "our fax is not working".  She asked for his first name and he said "my first name is of no consequence". He said that he would tell the "lawyer" that I refused to pay and my lawyer asked to speak to him.  Then he hung up.  These people are trying to scam people out of money!  Do not pay them!  I googled them and got this page.

Just rec'd a call from 720-306-0270 which I know is  a Denver, Co area cell phone number, as my sister livest there and it is very close to her number.  The man called me by name and told me he was looking for  a Mike Smith.  I was totally confused as that is a very common name.  He said I was listed as a person who was connected in some way to Mike Smith.  I asked how he got my cell phone number and he said they use the same database that the police department uses.  I kept saying this is crazy, I don't know how you would have got my number. I know a Mike Smith that was a neighbors son, but I don't know if that is the Mike Smith he is looking for. He told me he just needed me to get a message to him to call them at 888-497-4454 and it was PeachTree Law Center.  This is very disturbing that someone can get my cell number and call me for a person that I don't have anything to do with and does not have anything to do with me. I will be reporting this to the BBB.

I got a call from them also.  They said I should have received correspondence from them in October saying I had 30 days to dispute the claim.  I did not get any letter.  When I asked for them to send me the original debt, they said I was just using stall tactics.  Further, they claimed I owed over $6,000 when the original debt was 1,500.  Because the original debt was then sold to a debt holding company and they were representing this holding company.  Don't know what to do!
