After letting the answering machine "screen" this number (for months of almost dail;y calls - at all hours) I reluctantly answered and was told of a $50 gift / credit card would be sent to me for signing up (temporarily - to review) to this Club.  When the services did NOT meet what I was looking for and was contrary to the vocal contract agreement, I have asked to have this "service" cancelled .  I have been trying (at least once a month - kindly reminded by their monthly dunning of my credit card) to cancel in (2012) October, November and December.  Continuing to beat my head I have called in (2013) January, February and now March. I have never signed (or returned) any paperwork to officially join this "Club".  I have NEVER logged into , nor used any Authorization Number, nor entered anyPIN number.  The only consistent fact is that I'm refused to cancel a membership which I have never used, but keep getting billed $3.95 per week. Using just the dates from above ( $3.95 / week x 20 weeks = $79.00 - and according to them I agreed to a one (1) year contract (verbally - no paperwork of any kind amounting to a one year total of $205.20), perhaps SOMEONE at Smart Shopper Savings Club will be "SMART" enough to realize what a DISservice they are providing, come to their senses and for the seventh (7th)  time in six (6) months finally cancel this fleecing and promptly efund my money.  A copy of this will be forwarded to the IllInois State's Attorney's Office - The Honorable Lisa Madigan, The BBB of Illinois as well as the Illinois Secretary of State - The Honorable Jesse White for their review.  This is a HOT issue here in Illinois as it is across the rest of the country.  Let's deal with these "less than reputable sales" people - once and for all.  The letterheads sent to me show;

Hi evertyone. I received two calls from a rep. from the Smart Shoppers Savings Club online. And she started first by saying that I just won a 50 dollar walmart gift card voucher. Then she went into a whole spiel about nonsense that I can't even recall. She then proceeded to ask me questions stating that this was to see if she was delivered good customer service. She said there would be a 3.95 activation fee...and then few minutes later she connected me to another lady who wanted to be sure my email address and such were correct. I like an idiot gave them my credit card information and then before hanging up she said there would be a 64 dollar charge to my card. I was kinda confused. We got off the phone and something told me to look them up so I did. And suddenly I'm seeing all these complaints and such about this particular club and how it's a scam. I could have killed myself right then and there. I'm an 18 year old college student and thought I would never be scammed. Is there anyway that I can right this wrong done to me? Who do I call to make sure the 64 + the 3.95 is added back to my credit card account? If this doesn't work, should I just cancel my credit card and get a new one? Received a call from this number and I called them back. Asked if I had been receiving my magazines. They knew my home address and the last four digits of my debit card. I told them I didn't want anything from them and hung up.

They just called me with the whole target gift card thing. I asked, why would I pay for a gift that I umm idk WON!? And further more, I don't ever remember being on their website to even win.lol So I eventually hung up after telling the lady how google tells me that their company is clearly a scam.lol

The Smart Shopper Savings Complaint

I was promised via a phone call  a $100.00 voucher to Target and information regarding thesmartshoppersavings.com  but I had to pay $6.90 (or 6.98) for shipping and handling.  I was further instructed that I would have 5 days to review the information and should I decide to keep the product that I would be charged $19.98 (or 19.90) (I'm not sure of the specific cent amount but it was either or).  I have yet to receive the welcome package or the voucher and my trial period has ended.  I called the company today to let them know that I had not rec?d the package and was told that I still would rec've the material but my account would be billed the $19.98 on the 31st.  I stressed my dissatisfaction as I did not want to purchase something unless I had the opportunity to review what I was buying.  I told the company NOT to take funds out and asked to speak to a supervisor.   The young lady wanted to resolve the issue without supervisor assistance but I kept insisting on speaking with a supervisor.  I was then promised a decreased monthly rate to $9.95 a month but that would also be charged on the 31st.  Once again I told them NOT to take any money until I had the opportunity to review what the service was and whether or not I was interested in buying.  Finally after my insistence and being placed on hold for approx 10mins I did speak with a supervisor.  She apologized for my dissatisfaction but told me she  could not change my trial end date and they would have to cancel my subscription today or be billed.  I told her that was not fair as I was assured I would be able to review the material and make an informed decision regarding services to be purchased.  My only recourse was to allow them to cancel my subscription which in my opinion was totally unfair, I feel I was lied too and not really given much of choice; either pay or cancel.  Not satisfied I called another customer service rep. in another state.  Again I was told a similar story with the exception now that my account was cancelled and would not be charged.  I told them I was dissatisfied with my account being cancelled and all I wanted was to see the material before purchasing.  I once again demanded to speak to a supervisor, I again rec'd a run around  but eventually was connected to a supervisor after waiting another 10 minutes approx. Due to the fact that now my account was cancelled I could not have the product for 9.95/month which was promised approx 15 mins before this call.  The supervisor did however give me my access number and pin number to review the site and informed me to please call should I decide to cancel the "cancel order."  After much negating I was able to rec've the subscription for $9.95/month.  Lord only knows if I will have to pay $10.00 shipping and handling although this wasn't mentioned.  Everyone sounded sincere in their efforts to make me happy but my only request at the time was to be given the right to review what I was buying before I purchased.  This amazes me and really bothers me as I am a fighter when I feel I have been wronged or taken advantage of, but there are individuals who won't fight ?so as not to make waves?,  and the elderly can easily be taken advantage of, which nobody has the right to take advantage of individuals, let alone a company that is trying to "help you save money." HMMMMM!  Who's making the money here in the big scheme of things.  One last tidbit??..my conversations were all taped however, they would not go back and review them.  The only question asked very frequently by all, except the supervisors was,  ?have I satisfactorily resolved your issue?? My answer?.I?m sure everyone assumes by now was NO, I just want you stand by what was offered.

yeah me too ! I was thinking "who would call me at this hour of the night? Glad I googled the number. White pages was of no help. I used to work in a call center as a telemarketer - they're obviously having issues with their automatic dialer. At least they were semi- smart and disconnected the call without trying their sales pitch lol

my duaghter received the call.  the person asked our home address to send a gift card to us, then asked bank account.  fortunately my daughter does not know our bank account and did not give it to him.  so do not answer this phone call, never give out any information. teach your kids not to give out important information out.

Called collect. Smart Shoppers Saving Club. Only learned name after I accepted the call (was actually expecting a call from family thus my taking it). Will dispute the charges now.
Called back to confirm. They said they wanted to GIVE me a $100 Gift card good at Walmart, Target, Kmart, etc.
The catch? I PAY them a one time fee of $6+ for a shipping and handling.
I asked why would I pay for a Gift, the definition of which is something being GIVEN to me.
They said it was one time only, not recurring.
I repeated myself and they terminated the call.
