You start off with stating "Don't tell others what to do" then you give a numbered list of demands what everyone should do, how silly.
Mostly old dots answer the phone call.  This is not  1965 and the replies about automated bots calling made by several poster is right. No one is dialing these numbers they are being made globally.  This is also the reason so many elderly are bunked by smooth talking scam artist on the phone, they answer every phone call and get played.
Why be a foolish person and answer a bunch of unknown calls with no caller ID if you don't know the number?
You answer every call if you want and waste your time reporting numbers from automatic call bank centers and have a good time but don't order everyone else to do it.

Recorded message - and how they get around do no call is they begin the message that someone at my number registered on line for information about (and about then is when I hang up). One of the rules about do not call is that they can call if you buy something from them once (like Sears), or request info about them.  If you ask them to quit calling you (each company that calls) they are supposed to quit.  Not sayin' they will.

This is actually one of the things a smaller government would be concentrating its resources on: preventing invasion of your privacy and prosecuting fraud.

Elected officials don't want teeth in the Do Not Call laws. They are exempt from it themselves because they want to pester you during election time. If they had to recognize the principle that your phone belongs to you, people would see the hypocrisy.

These idiots call me about 4 times a day and leave a message on my land phone. Lately they discovered the number to my cell phone. They call from different numbers that are from all different states. They leave a message and it is all about lowering my credit card rate, which they cannot do. Only your credit card company can do that! I just ignore them but when they called my cell, I stayed on the phone to talk to someone. I got some guy named Jared and he was all pumped up. "Do you want to lower your credit card rate today?"  I said "no, I have no credit cards and I don't need scammers calling me all the time. How do I get off your list?"  Well he got quite volatile, called me a few names I can't say in public and said he hoped I enjoyed getting raped by my credit card companies. Then he hung up. We all KNOW these ding dongs are scammers. I have turned phone numbers in a number of times but since they just change their number there is no way to get them to quit. Also because they DO call from so many different numbers, I can't put them all in my call block that only has a 30 number limit. I am concerned they have my cell number. I don't give that to ANYONE except CLOSE friends and family. It must be true that Verizon sells the phone numbers because we started getting calls (for us and not random people) within days of getting a new phone.  It sucks being a consumer sometimes.

When I answered there was no one there and when I try to call back there is nothing, it is like the phone line is dead.  Our phone number is on the Federal & State Do Not Call Lists.

The only thing you accomplish when you press "1" is to tell the caller that they have reached a valid number, so they can then sell it to 100,000 other scammers.  The numbers showing on your caller ID are most likely not valid numbers.  They are spoofed at random and by the time you report them to the DNC, the callers have already changed the number many times.  Most of them are generated through computers overseas and there appears to be no way to shut them down.  Our only defense is not to answer the calls.

About 10 years ago, I got a PC that had a Voicemail / Attendant program in it. it would not ring my phone until the caller picked an extension number. It came pre-instaled and was free. It worked very well to screen calls and I never got robocalls.

Unfortunately, That computer died and HP did not include the software to reload on my next PC. Currently I'm looking into freeware that can do the same thing.  If anyone knows of something that does the same thing, I'd Love to know! (FIDK@aol.com)

I'm looking and learning about Google voice now but not sure if it would be able to route my Cell # and home #' to the Google Voice # for screening before ringing those numbers. If the phishing scumbags  are using sequential dialers, They will still call the cell and home phone, Then I may set them to only ring from calls sent by Google Voice. Does anybody know Google Voice well enough to know if I can set it up for screening this way?
If the caller has to pick an extension, it should foil the robocalls. ( my first extension option could forward to Rachel at card services to keep her lines busy more)
Now if the phone companies are not making money off robocalls and blocking fees, Why couldn't they provide this and shutdown these phishing scams?
Since AT&T wants to profit from all the numbers I need to block, I've got to find a solution and not let them steal money from me for a problem they should address.  Their inaction appears as complicity to increase profits. If they were serious about helping customers, they would make simple program that asked the robot to, for example, "Press the last 4 numbers of the call your are making and the # key to continue this call" or say the "Name of the person you are calling" as a free option to the phone service.  Even better, let the customer of the phone company choose from multiple screening prompts methods to stop the Robots from patching their system and defeating a standardized screening.

This will prob never happen because the politicians want to use robocalls and would block it from proceeding. Easy answer, if they don't block it, Let them continue to do it but with a registration # to complete the calls. Make an extension option for political calls, another for non profits which could all have a certification number. ( one that is hard to fake from Nigeria, Costa Rica India, China, etc)

I loved to help Non profits when I can, but had to stop when the local State Troopers, I had supported for many years, gave or sold my info to all the others And ended an annual tradition I really enjoyed. It was  helping unfortunate children but can't now, I lose control of my phone if I do it again.

Well, no doubt screening system will never happen, Politicians would block them too because they want to use the same Scum to make their Robocalls at a very low cost. They know it is legal for them to call you but want to distance themselves from the illegal portion of using a robodialer.  They just claim they had no idea the people they hired, for such a low rate were breaking the law and rehire them under a new shell company name if they ever get called out for this activity.
I recently had a Standing Judge running for re election call me at home.  I contacted his office about making Robocalls, and had asked how could a vote for a Judge that illegally called my home? I provided him the laws that were violated and he said he had no idea the company his campaign was using was doing this and breaking these laws.  It was very interesting talk we had.
As for politicians, The best way to stop those calls is to tell them as long as they invade MY privacy, abuse MY phone that I pay for with MY money ,  And "inadvertently" break the law only to blame it on a contracted company, they do not have the credibility to get MY vote.  Could I go to court and say "oops, I didn't break a law, somebody else did it for me"

To this day I have never voted for anyone that calls my house and disrupts my life (or meal).
They do this because it is cheap and they believe it gets votes. It is cheap because they are using robodialers. If they lose votes they will stop listening to the pitches the telemarketers are selling them them about how many people they are reaching.

Take control people!  Make it cost them and it will stop, The government is not going to do anything to help us regain control of services WE pay use the way as we intended.

Prank Call
Why did I get the feeling when I saw this number, that this site would show a lot of posts about the same old scams:  Credit card rates, free cruise, political survey, etc.  I thought it was just a wrong number, cause there was no message.  Got one call this past Monday around noon.  The Caller ID said "Unknown Name."  Found out about the cruise, etc. by looking up the other numbers they called from on this site.

Anyway, these people have called me for months, usually from allegedly Washington state based area codes.  Also, from Oregon and Florida.  One time the ID said "Florida".

Most of the time there was no message, but if there was one, it was a recording.  Some woman squawking about lowering credit card rates, and to press 1 to speak to someone immediately.

These are the various "company" names or ID's they have used since they started calling me in April of this year:  PacTel, Pacific Tel, Power One, PO America (Political Opinions of America), Ind Sur Group, Lower Interest, Financial Svc Ctr, and Affordable Vacci (I'm sure it's supposed to be "Vacations", they can't even spell.  Looks like it means affordable vaccines.)

They seem to be "spoofing" the number and company name each time.  Bottom line is I never answer a call unless I recognize the caller.  I get a lot of these calls, but they have tapered off recently.  Sometimes I turn my ringer off if it gets to the point they are really hounding me.

Also been getting some "Unknown Caller" (no number shown) calling me for weeks.  No message of any kind.  Could be the same people, or some other "boiler room" operation.

These calls are probably coming from overseas, where DNC list is not enforceable.  Hard to enforce anyway.  I don't answer ir or report it cause I don't want to punish an innocent company whose phone number these scammers are using.  I ignore them, have too many things in life to cope with like unemployment and death in the family.  Don't have the energy to deal with them.

Lets stop moaning and take the matters in our hand.  Don't tell others what to do.  Do it yourself.
1- Answer calls.  Make their life miserable.  Don't be tamed with your need to be perceived as the good one.  Use the swearing words you hate.  Tell the individual she/he must have been raped, abused brutally in their past that they like to abuse people.  I'm sure that will strike a truth
2- Call your telephone company give the number and complain that they are abusing you.
3- Call your local police number and report that you have told your telephone company and you like to file a report against this number.  They may not show much reaction but when enough people call and they hear it long enough, they will start talking about it.
4-Call your congress person.  Call them so often and tell them they are promoting abuse if they don't stop this.  We also will act to give them a taste of those unneeded calls.

This is a robocall. The computer program behind it doesn't know who you are, it just dials every possible phone number in sequence every day, day in day out. And then it starts over. That's why we keep getting the same message from the same scammers. It doesn't matter if your phone is unlisted or if you are on the Do Not Call list. You are wasting your breath when you ask to have your name taken off of their 'list.' They don't have a list. All they want is your credit card information so they can run up a large charge that your bank will have to eat. The crooks are probably overseas. They use another computer program to generate new phone numbers to hide their true identity. I call them telemarketers because this site doesn't provide a good title for them.

All you can do is grit your teeth and bear it. Let your answering machine answer for you. Nobody is enforcing this because our elected officials won't adequately fund the appropriate agencies. That's what smaller government means, folks. It means you are are on your own.
