Just received a call from this company - something regarding magazines.  They are misrepresenting themselves as a company that is "engaged" with whatever magazines you may already have.

when i asked to be added to the DNC, i received a message of "EAT A DICK".

Today I received a harassing phone call from someone from publisher circulations saying that I owe about $50 in subscription fees for magazines. To my knowledge, the only magazines I've had are shown on the accounts page here on line and NONE of them show any outstanding balances. He didn't tell me which magazines I had outstanding balances for but insisted I pay for them immediately by credit or debit card because after 30 days the subscription is locked in. I asked if I could I go on line right now and pay anything which he said NO I had to do it right here and NOW and demanded my credit card number. I told him I didn't have a credit card then he said I had a debit card at least and he needed that number. To which I said NO! He then said this debt needed to be settled immediately. THEN He wanted my occupation, age as well as other questions before I hung up on him. He was extremely RUDE, pushy and tried to be very intimidating so I laughed at him. He called back but I picked up then clicked to hang up. Then he called back again andI picked up I didn't get an answer on the line just heard breathing. So I hung up.

Well I had got scammed a while ago and this people were from a completely different city, the only reason I know this is the first ones had thick mississippi accents these people had a nutral accent. So they also told me that I had outstanding debt to them and that I could have the "New and improved price of 16.99 mo" to which I went along with it till they started saying I had to pay. I said there was a problem. Which I instanlty got rerouted to a "Supervisior" she was nice and asked if the sales person was mean or not to which I said no but I asked if they were an affiliate of Reading America. I got a silence and the phone went dead. These people are Reading America. They scammed me, don't let them scam you.

I got a few calls from them as well. Telling me not to pay any other requests for payment...then asking which credit card I used most often, asking for the last four digits of my SS#. Simply told them I don't divulge that info on the phone.

Then they called AGAIN at 11:30 PM on the same night. Then again the next day.

We filed a complaint with our carrier about this phone number. Time will tell

About 3 days ago I received a call from a man (same number) asking me if I was receiving my magazines ok. I asked him which ones and he said Maxim. I told him we dont subscribe to that magazine and he started telling me we owed money. I cut him off and ended the conversation, as I could tell it was a scam. Last night, the same man called me from the same number. He asked for my spouse, by name. I recognized the number and told him he had the wrong number. I think it was a spamming call. I also want everyone to BEWARE of calls like this.

Wanted me to pay up for a magazine subscription and everything would be alright. When I told her it was pre-paid, she hung up on me. Watch out it must be a scam!! I'm sure someone out there gives them a credit card number.

Most cards, like Visa all start with the same 4 numbers...it's the identification of the card type, ie. Visa, Mastercard, etc.  They do not have your card number unless you provided it to them.  So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I am glad that I'm not the only one that went through this.  Told me I signed up online for a magazine subscription and had to pay $3.99 a week or $16 monthly and they only deal with credit cards.  Wow, what a scam.

Got a call from some s#!^bag claiming that my subscriptions were soon to renew, but not to accept anything from anyone else.  It sounded like he was guessing at what I was receiving.  Said that I would pay $13/year for a subscription instead of what I'm paying now, but didn't offer up what I was currently paying.  You would think that he would have that information, otherwise it wouldn't be a better deal.  Ignored his dozen calls or so after.  AVOID.

I've got this call as well.  Most likely related to a free magazine offer I had signed up to at one point.  Anyway ignore it, its a scam they are phishing for your credit card number and the more info you give them the worse.  Best thing to do is just hang up.

Quick tip, for any magazine offers or coupons use a different last name, or spell your last name wrong by one letter.  You'll be amazed how much junk mail you'll notice with that mis-spelled last name.

Just received a call from the same number. Same thing as everyone else stated. They said I have 5 magazine subscriptions with them (even though they couldn't give me the names of them) and they had my credit card on file and my rate of $16/month would not change. One problem I only have 3 subscriptions and i pay them year though the publisher by check, not credit card. When I called the lady out, she acted caught off guard and said she would have to "research" this issue and call me back. She better hope she doesn't call back, I won't be as nice the next time. :)

Just got my second call from them, after the first one where I refused to verify if I had a debit/credit card.  Got a call today from "Jeffery at Denver" calling from their Credit department.  He said that I had signed up for 5 magazines, to which I told him I have no magazines.  He said that it was a trial and I had signed up for 3.99 a week, I asked him what card they had on file since I wasn't charged.  He said that he didn't have that info and I asked what credit department doesn't have my info.  Then he said he couldn't give that out to me, and I said why not, you just called me.  He hung up.  I assume I won't be hearing from them.  I also asked if I could record the phone call and after a few seconds he said yes.... if they call again, I will for evidence.

I get calls from these guys 2-3 days a week.  Nothing about magazines though.  They always ask "is Barbara there?".  And then hang up.  I am a guy so the next time they do this I am going to say "Yes, this is Barbara." and see what kind of reaction I can get.

Add me to the list of unfortunate crappy magazine recipient.  I must have a dozen subscriptions coming in, which were never ordered and I would never read.  This a criminal enterprise which needs to be stopped!!

wow.  I am going thru the exact same thing that you described.  I started receiving magazines that I never ordered.  They're not even magazines that I would read, so I know I never ordered them.  When I started to freak out on the guy who called me, he said he would transfer me to his manager (who was probably sitting right next to him).  But, first, he asked for my age...why does that matter??
The "manager" told me some publisher took my order for a 30-day trial, and now that's over so it was passed on to her, and they are the billing company and they are going to start charging me $21.95 a month for 2 years and they have my credit card on file (she only gave me the first four numbers).
She got me so livid, and upset (b/c I really don't want these mags or have the money for them).
But your post makes me feel a little better, I hope they don't charge me.

Yeah. Similar story. I started receiving a magazine out of the blue. I asked my wife if this was some kind of belated birthday present or something. She had no idea. Then IU get the phone call. I told them no one at this household ordered it and to stop sending it. They babbled something and I hung up. Not getting a red $0.01 from me.

Wow.  I just got a phone call from there too and the real bummer is I grew up in Miles City, MT.  They are telling me that I'm on a list to pay $16.00 a month after promotional period.  I said to take me off the list and cancel my membership and he hesitated and said have a good day.  I never would have thought it would have come out from Miles City, MT!  SCAMMMMMMM  Don't give out credit card numbers!

I received a call from the same number.  Awhile back there was an offer on a legitimate site for free magazine subscriptions for small businesses. I signed up and received five magazines thus far. I got a call today from this number and they were telling me that instead of being billed for $50 a month, I'll get the discounted rate of $13. I said that when I signed up, there was no information about having to pay. Usually there would be some kind of info on cancelling by a certain date but there was none. The woman started getting upset, she was a supervisor mind you, and she said she was trying to help me. I was told I had to pay $13 a month for two years. I was thinking about cutting my losses and just paying for it but I asked her what's their website so I can see what magazines they have and she said they didn't have one. She also threatened me with sending my bill to collections. I said she could do that and then she hung up. Come to think of it, I can't recall the name of the company, they don't allow you to contact them through phone or email or website. This is definitely a scam.

I have received three (3) calls from this telephone number starting in April or May.  When I was told I order this particular magazine and how much my credit card was being billed my response to the first caller was "I did not order any magazines and I wanted the one coming to my house to stop". She replied in order for me to cancel I would need to speak with a supervisor and like every one else I to was told the supervisor would call me, that hasn't happened. It's a SCAMMMMM wonder how our powers that be can stop this from happening.
