got called, AWI was the message when I called back.
I can't tell if the "it's real" people are the scammers or customers.   so, do what you think is right.
use a recordable or something able to be brought to the credit bureau of Secret Service (fraud people) so they can act on it - not just a word of mouth thing.

This is legit. I emailed the Agency for Workforce Innovation at UCCC.ORLANDO@flaawi.com and received this response:

"It is legitimate.  Because of the number of people who either have questions or problems we have hired a special team to call people in the evening.  They work until 9PM."

My husband has been waiting 4 months for unemployment. We received a call from 407-228-1503 and didnt answer because we didnt recognize it. I got online and found websites like this who said it was a scam. So, today we got another call from the number. My husband answered it, knowing what to expect. The caller immediately asked for his ss#. He said he didnt feel comfortable giving that info over the phone and what was this regarding. The caller said he couldnt tell us what the call was about unless he provided his ss#. Then the caller asked if my husband would feel comfortable calling an 800#. He gave us 800-204-2418. I Googled that # and it took me to a very clever exact copy of the official Florida AWI website. It even says floridajobs.com BUT if you go through the legit State sites (floridajobs.ORG) and follow it to the real AWI site, it only has the official 850 Tallahassee #s. I still believe this is a scam, but a very clever one, down to the copying of official looking websites. They are taking advantage of people who have been waiting for benefits and are desperate like we are. Dont fall for it.

It really is the Unemployment office in Florida. Its just a calling center. They have more than one and yes... They do work on the weekends. The answering prompt states that if you know your party's extention please dial at any time if you're asking about your benefits than to dial a different number or go on line.
Also, if you call the 1-800 number and ask about your benefits, THEY send an email to this office and several others so that they can call you back. If you're getting the calls by mistake then someone gave them a wrong number.

So is this legit or not?  They called me twice today on a Saturday but didn't leave a message.  Since when do govt employees work weekends?  I do collect unemployment but this seems fishy to me.

This number 407-228-1503 just called my phone and did not leave a message.  I do get unemployment from Florida and this is not their number.  They must be getting your number to call from things like e-mail that you send to the unemployment office because I have never been called by this number and just this past week I had to e-mail the unemployment office with an issue on my account.  Hopefully, someone will catch these individuals and prosecute them.

I was called by 407-228-1503 on 6/25/2009 at 8:38PM. The person claimed to be from the Florida state Unemployment Office. The next morning I called the Florida Unemployment office and asked about the number. They stated that it WAS legit. It is their Orlando call center that had been set up in February 2009. Their hours have also been extended due to the amount of people unemployed here in Florida.

Still, I would not suggest EVER handing out the information that he asked for.

I received a phone call from 1-407-228-1503 at 8:36PM tonight. If indeed it was the Unemployment office, they should at least have the courtesy to leave I voice mail.  I believe as the previous posting suggests, that this is a scam.  I will call the AWI in the morning to verify this.

I got a couple of calls from this number, they said they're calling from the "Unemployment Office of Florida's Orlando Office." She stated she was calling in response to an email I sent. First, I never sent an email. Second, I changed my number to my landline with Unemployment yet this number keeps calling my cell phone. Third, it's not called the "Unemployment Office of Florida" it's the Agency for Workforce Innovation, they never say unemployment office. Fourth, everything government in FL is based out of Tallahassee so no matter what there would only be 850 numbers, none from any other area code. Though they do have field offices for people to go and file paperwork and stuff, unless you were specifically waiting for a call from someone at that office, any calls from AWI would be from an 850-number. I got into with a guy earlier when I called back the number who at first told me he never heard of the person who left a message on my voicemail and then got upset when I refused to give him my social security number. I would beware of this number. I know it's pretty much impossible to get someone on the 800-number, but I would suggest trying that or finding a number yourself on the AWI website.

Please don't fall for it, it's a scam.  They called me today saying it's the unemployment office and asking for my SS#.  I hung up.  The unemployment office does not call on Saturdays.  And Florida (where I live) can barely pay govt. jobs between Mon-Fri.  I called back to check and their fake phone tree was a dead giveaway telling me there had been an "error" and I could not leave a message.  I was about to tell them I had reported them to the Better Business Bureau and that I would expose them online ASAP.

Got the same call and verified with Official Office that the number is legit.  It is out of their Orlando office with extra folks working extended hours to handle the onslaught brought on over questions on the extensions.  They are trying to keep the line clear from the daily mundane calls to answer more specific questions.  Weird way to handle this, but the administrator said answer the calls, but do not provide any outlandish personal info, I.e.: Full SS#, Bank Acct's, PIN#.

It's supposedly the Florida Dept of Unemployment and Workforce Innovation.  They will ask for your bank account number and pin number.  1.  Why would they call at 9 pm in the evening adn 2. why would they need your pin number  3.  With so many people out of work this is a very easy easy scam

at 9 p.m. tonight I received a call from the Florida Workforce Innovation.. (aka) Unemployment Office.

I was quite thrilled since I have been trying to make contact with them since Novermber of 2008 with no luck. They do not return calls, answer the phone or respond to e-mails.

Tonight , a man named "Andrew" called and said he wanted to "help" me with my unemployment claim.. but he needed my Pin # and Acct #?

I don't believe it's a scam.  I asked a question regarding labor laws.  They returned the call and left a msg advising me the proper agency to call for the info I need.  Nobody asked for my SS#....the person just left a vm with helpful information.

Update: I just called the number back to see if this is a scam or whatever. The greeting sounded official now and it claims it's the "Agency for Workforce Innovation" the official name of Florida unemployment. It offered a menu to connect if I knew the extension or name of the caller which I don't have. Then it referred me the AWI main 800 number. It very well could be legit.

It sees most if not all the folks that have reported this number do receive unemployment in Florida and many have sent emails.

Do not give these people ANY information!  I share a very similar story to Michael's (above).  I received one call yesterday at 5:50 PM and ignored it as I did not recognize the number.  No voicemail was left.  I googled the number which lead me to a number of posts about this call being fraud... At 8:15 PM they called me back so I decided to answer and see what they were up to.  The man said hello this is so and so McKnight from the Unemployment Office of Florida.  He went on to say he was calling about an email I sent regarding my claim.  What is really scary is that about 3 weeks ago I did indeed send an email to the Unemployment Office in Tallahassee however I heard back within a few days and everything had been sorted out.  Anyways, the man said he needed to verify my Social Security number.  I said okay tell me what number you have and I'll verify it.  There was silence.  The man was completely caught off guard and frantic.  He said - did you send us an email?  I said no!  He quickly said hmm okay I'll take you off the list and hung up!  I don't know how he was able to get my contact info which scares me.  Technology readily available for sale over the Internet allows callers to fool caller ID with a bogus name and number. The practice is known as identity spoofing.  These people may be doing this!!!

Read more on that kind of fraud: http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2006-07-06-caller-id-scam_x.htm

called twice on saturday left no message.

If this is the unemployment office as suggested, they should leave a message for you to call back. That way you can verify that it is them calling you, otherwise I would not give my ss# to some unknown caller.
A government agency should not call and ask for this.
