I received a phone call from an unidentified female caller who told me she was sending me a new Medicare card and wanted to verify my personal information:  name, address, phone. She then transferred me to her supervisor who continued to verify my personal information, then ask the name of my bank. I gave him a dummy name and he verifies that is correct. Next he wanted my routing number on the checks from the bank to which I spelled out two words which I cannot print here. He did a laugh and hung up. Both persons had very heavy accents that were hard to understand.  I had a good laugh too.

A person from this number with a middle eastern accent called my mother.  He asked for her to verify her name and address then told her that she would need to get her checkbook to give her bank routing and account number.  She refused and he told her that her benefits would be cut off if she didn't.  She refused and said that she was going to call Social Security and speak with them.  Upon hearing this he laughed and hung up.  When she tried calling this number back it said that it was not receiving incoming calls.

Please be aware that Social Security will not contact you in order to verify your name, address or to collect any banking information.

This Phone caller said he was collecting information in order to send a new Medicare card. The person has a distinct East Indian dialect. He offered my name and of course he knew my phone number and he knew my address. What he asked was the name of my bank where my social security check is deposited. I gave him the name of another bank, not my bank. He said, "Yes, that confirms the information I have.". Wrong!

He then turned me over to his supervisor for additional confirmation. This person, another East Indian, requested the routing numbers from my check. When I objected he hung up.

I checked online and found the "New Medicare Card" verification is a scam. There is no new medicare card and medicare doesn't call for verification. I went to www.stopmedicarefraud.gov and called 800-447-8477 given on the site to report the scam. Should you  have a similar scam press 8 to report the scam. You will talk to a person to describe the scam attempt for their records and use.
