prank calls

press 2 for english - who do these people think we are? Mexicans?

Got a call from this number this morning.  Then got a fake Google page from UK.  She said wrong number, but guess they are checking to see if anyone is home. Burgalars use this technique. I called the number and it asked to press one for spanish and 2 for english and then wanted an account number??

THEY ARE CALLING US AT 4:15AM!!!! NOT GOOD!!!!!  It must be noon in Nigeria. We are calling Brighthouse to block the number, of course they won't/can't do it.  We are already on the DNC list thru the gov. That does NO GOOD - I get at least 2 calls per day from telemarketers or scammers.  Although with the scammers such as this number, the Nigerians aren't going to follow our GOV DNC lists!!

My elderly mother received a call from 407-702-1033 today and they were trying to get her to send them $3000. They were able to get her to believe it was her grandson ( who we'll call Bob for these purposes) and he and his buddies had won a trip to a resort in British Columbia resort. They got into trouble and were now in a holding cell and needed the $3000 to get out of jail. And what ever you do don't tell my parents.

They had her going and played on every little thing she said. When they spoke unintelligibly, she would ask "Is that you Bob?", they would pick up on it and answer yes it's me Bob. They are professional scammers and really had her going and upset. She's 88 and still very sharp and picked up that "Bob" didn't call her by the pet name used his whole life. And when she who was taking care his dog, they gave her the wrong name for the dog and so on. She called me and I walked through getting me the number off of her caller id and I called it too. Got the same automated message press one for Spanish and 2 for English.

I called the Sheriff's office and explained things to them. They called it the grand parent or emergency scam. It is relatively new but gaining momentum.

My mother was lucky, but said she has friends who would have given the money in a heartbeat. Stay alert, call you sheriffs office. Don't be shy or embarrassed.

Received call at work today - thanks to all who put this info in. Seemed fishy.

OK so I get this email a couple of days ago saying I have been chosen to be given 5 million dollars...you all know the drill. Now 2 days later I have this guy calling saying he's from the house of Ghana regarding my 5 million dollars...same thing as in the email. I just can't figure out how they got my work number. I asked and he said from the Commons Commitee.
He's called twice today trying to convince me that its all legal. Talk about crazy!

This number called us today and said he saw that we'd been browsing for computer repair.  We hadn't done this online, just through the phonebook and telephone and that was about 3 weeks ago.  My mom asked for his number and he said he'd only give it if she agreed to contract with him for the repair.  She said she didn't trust people who do that and hung up on him.  The number was registered as 407-702-1033 on our caller ID.  When I called, there was a message to enter the card number.  There was no way to speak to anyone, and eventually the message said to try the call again later and hung up.

This is funny and weird, after I called the number 407-702-1033 and they asked me for my account or code # , as I posted before, I dial #55 to listen to my voice messages with Embarq, and I had a message from this number, it clearly said "you have a new msg from 407-702-1033, I press 1 to listen it and it was my sister from Peru.
I have a service to receive phone calls from Peru, but this is the first time I see identified these calls with this Fl number.
Now I am lost with it, I will ask Embarq about it.

You need to call the Winter Park Police Department immediately and UPS!!  You need to file a complaint with the Police and UPS just in case there is an incident (heaven forbid).  The police department may be able to trace the phone number for the actual person calling from your phone service provider database.  Don't be embarrassed, it is better to be safe than ...  

It's just a phone call to the authorities for your personal safety.

I just got a call from the same number, did not answer, and no message was left. When try calling the number, I get a Spanish message telling me to inter my code # number - WDH? I have no idea who or what this is, does anyone?

Man with a strong hispanic accent claims to be from UPS and wants to deliver a Reader's Digest prize. Will not give call back number or leave a message. Informs person called that he will call back at a certain time (to see if you are home?) Asks if the person called is a widow, divorcee, or single.

Received a call today 08/12/2010 from a Thomas Wright from Morgan and Associated Law Firm then he transferred me to Mr. Marshall, again, I adviced him not to call me at my work place. He then said then provide me with your attorney's info because you are being sued. I said ok my State Attorney General is and then he hung up the phone.
I wonder why...hmmmm
I already contacted the FTC last week and spoke with a rep from FTC and they took all the info..
