Go to the local police and make a complaint of extortion.
CWG40 2014-06-07 06:42:57 Unknown
Total scam. Don't give him anything. Go to the police and make a complaint of extortion .
CWG40 2014-06-07 06:41:42 Unknown
If you gave him any financial information go to the bank and change your accounts.
CWG40 2014-06-07 06:40:42 Unknown
Nobody is going to arrest you. You are the victim of an extortion attempt. Go to your local police department and make a complaint. Do not talk to this person, block his calls. Do not send him any money.
Austin 2014-06-07 05:59:06 Unknown
Did you ever pay him? If not did anything happen to you? I got the same exact call and sai the same thing
NY victim 2014-05-29 00:42:22 Unknown
Correction. District attorney.
NY victim 2014-05-29 00:41:28 Unknown
Exactly. Also, I've learned that cops are not suppose to text you. This guy text you & is too shy to leave voicemails. Cops are suppose to leave voicemails if they want to get a hold of you.
Elspeth 2014-05-27 14:48:00 Unknown
I'd like to just add a correction to what you posted - the individual calling people to extort money is NOT a police officer. Not only is he scamming people, he's also violating federal law when he says he's an "officer of the law".
Elspeth 2014-05-27 14:45:21 Unknown
It's a complete scam!
NY Victim 2014-05-27 14:39:36 Unknown
If he say that he's an officer of the law from a state other then yours, it's a scam. Even if he's telling the truth, he's wrong for directly calling you because he's out of his jurisdiction. He's not suppose to talk to you. I blocked his number with an app. I suppose to store unwanted voicemail & text. Haven't heard from him since. Just worried about what he'll do with my address.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you
.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Same thing happened to me. The guy sounded black. The number was different though but same area code & same situation & same conversation. Said if I don't cooperate, he'll pit out a warrant for my arrest. If i do cooperate, he'll put me on a program to text him my name everyday & community service. He said my fine is $900. And this started with an app called Chat Me.

He said hes gonna arrest me
Dy 2014-03-18 21:56:45 Unknown
Now hes using a new number 407-867-1929 freddie rivera posing as a detective
Elspeth 2014-03-18 18:57:44 Unknown
A "real" cop doesn't work in debt collection, nor does a "real" cop call people and threaten them with jail if they don't pay some bogus debt. "The deal" is that "Officer Rivera" is simply a con-man - a scammer - attempting to scare people enough that they'll pay him money to make him go away.
Elspeth 2014-03-18 18:55:51 Unknown
That's complete BS. Law enforcement is not in the business of debt collection. Also, debt is civil, not criminal -meaning you can be sued if you default on a debt, however, you CANNOT be arrested or jailed! Nor can you be "extradited". Your caller is a scammer. Please do report him to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General.
Dy 2014-03-18 18:51:23 Unknown
Is he a real cop ? Or what is the deal with him ?

Scam Alert 2014-03-18 13:26:18 Unknown
To RM, DO NOT send any money via Western Union!!! This is a scam! It is illegal to require money up front (and especially via Western Union or and Money Pack card) to be sent for a "loan." This is a scam! Once money is sent via Western Union, you can NEVER get it back. Please don't do it!! SCAM!!!
rm 2014-03-18 13:18:38 Unknown
Why does he want money sent western union
