I am so glad I looked at this board first. I had been looking for car loans and I guess somehow this company got my information. I received a call from the guy with a thick Indian accent (now calling himself Chester), stating that  I was qualified for a 1500 loan. He said to pay it off in 8 months it would be 208 a month but I would need to western union  170 to someone named Janet Connor in Plankton NJ. This immediately struck me as odd considering the phone number being used here is based out of CA. He said he already had my banking information to be able to but the money in to my account but I do not remember if I provided this when filling out other applications. I was going to ask him to confirm this information when I call him tomorrow as that is when I would have gotten the supposed loan. What do I do if somehow he does have my banking information?

I received a call from this company. I think he said his name was Officer David.   The caller had a strong Indian accent.  The claimed to be a loan officer from American Loan Corporation.  He claim that I had been qualified for a loan of $3400.  The loan was approved based on no credit check.  According to them the Credit Bureau required them to have me do a "proof I can afford" to pay back the loan by placing $350 on a Greenpak at RiteAid or 7/11.

I received a message today from someone with a thick indian accent stating that his name is Officer David Brown from the United State Law Investigation Department, saying that there was a warrant being issued against me under my SSN and that the local sherriff's will be serving the warrant to my home address and then stated what my home address was, saying if I wanted to know anymore information regarding this, contact them on there hard line number that is listed as 408-459-3272. After seeing the message I got a little scared because warrants are nothing to play with I'm not built ford tough I can't go to jail... So I call the number back and some message comes on not real sure what it said so I hung up and called right back and got the same message soon as I hung up someone by the name of Brian Jackson called me back and I went on asking the question why is there a warrant on me he goes on to say something about check deception and he also gave me a "warrant case number" and told me he was going to explain to me what this was about and please don't interrupt him until he gets finished, he is not a debt collector he is simply informing me of the warrant and me being naive was like I have no idea on what your talking about and he was like if you want to settle it out of court you can pay this amount I go on to say I don't have that and he said well unfortunately were not going to be able to help you and a sherriff will be coming to your address and I was I don't understand he said if your honestly saying you will be willing to take care of this out of court our consumer company can contact you and make a payment of half of what you owe and we will send you a certification of recepit once we receive your payment and no legal action will be taken up against you but if you don't call back by 5:00 the warrant will be served. Of course I'm scared but after reading up on this number I did just seek some financial assistance from online so I hope this is really a scam cause I can't afford it either way...

This guy called me on my cell phone and scared the S%#T out of me! I never been in trouble with the law so was trying to figure out did I do something when I was younger. The guy said his name was Officer Brown from the United States Law Investigation Department. He had a heavy Indian Accent. They would not give me a social security number and tried to get me to pay $500 over the phone or they would issue a warrant. They claim I took out a cash advance and never paid it back.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller?s instructions. Rather, you should:

?Notify your banking institutions.
?Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
?Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
?File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:

?Never give your Social Security number?or personal information of any kind?over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
?Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
?Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
?Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
?Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
?When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

kept receiving a call from 408 459 3272, state it was Jackson Law Firm - after verifying my phone number & ss# (now this is scary), an middle-eastern man said I was being investigated for criminal charges, unknown reason, said I owe them money (unknown) and he also had my address.  When I asked if this is so important why wasn't a voice mail left for me, i had see this number in the past just never answered until today.  He was very stern to read info off to me and then said "I'll transfer you to my Sr. Attorney", personally, I chuckled a bit because it was the same person, well sure sounded the same.  After listening for a bit, I advised them, if this is so important then mail me the proper documents so I can review the information and I hung up.

I did a search on google, which, brought me to this site.  I ended up calling back to ask for the address in CA, based off the area code (408) and was disconnected, same guy.  I had called back about 10 times after, once getting a voice-mail (same guys voice), majority of the time hung up on, and once spoke with him and advised I would contact the local authorities to contact him, he advised me not to call back, figures...

Contact: http://www.salinaspd.com/ - City of Salinas Police Dept web site - (831) 758-7226

*Pretty persistent on the phone and stern, but when you begin to ask questions or advise them your attorney and/or authorities will be contacted, his demeanor changes....

I received a voicemail from this number from a gentleman who sounded extremely foreign. He said his name was Tony with Jackson and Associates and that my ssn is under investigation in the state. He told me that I need to call him back or he will file legal action against me. He said me or my lawyer need to be in contact with his office. This has happened to me before, when I called the number back it rang one and a voicemail picked up with very loud static in the background and the voicemail message sounded really fake and unprofessional, stating to leave my name and number and an associate will call me back, this is FAKE FAKE FAKE!

I just got a call at home and at work from this number. I didn't catch the guy's name but he basically said there was a lawsuit against me and that if I didn't return his call by the end of the day he was going to proceed with the case tomorrow morning. He had an Indian accent and when I called back I told him I had looked up his number online and that it came up as a fraudulent number and will be reported to the police. He got mad and said we can face each other in court, god bless, and hung up.

Got a call today on my cell phone from a guy named Kenneth saying I had been sued in LA county for a loan I applied for online. Problem is, I have never made an online loan app in my life. He gave me a referenence # after I ask for it several times. The loan was supposedly from a company called Cash America. He said I should be expecting a process server at my door within 48 hrs. & that I needed to retain an attorney in LA or show up with docs proving I never recieved a loan. I repeatedly ask for any docs he had & he said he could not fax or email any to me by law.
I called back a few minutes later to ask him for the court case #. He refused & told me I would have to wait until I was served to see them. I told him that this was too bogus to believe & that I would be in contact with the FBI making a complaint for Fraud across state lines. He told me he was an attorney, not afraid & would not connect me to his supervisor. Further, he had no more time to talk with me.
I went online to locate Jackson Law Firm, found this site. Called him back, he said his name was Sam, then I told him I was on to his scam & he sure sounded like Kenneth with his heavy Indian accent. He called me stupid & hung up.  There should be a law against this harrassment!!!

The caller says his name is William Martin from Jackson Law Firm. They are requesting personal information to confirm my identity. There is supposed to be a judgement placed against me. I requested they send me something in the mail, however, without confirming my identity they will not. They wish me good luck. They have been calling for months at my job and on my personal phone.
