Be aware there are websites like prankdial.com that allow someone to prank call you and put in someone elses phone number to show up as the caller id.  I don't know if this is the same issue you are having or not, but you can go to the website prankdial.com and choose to block your number.  My mothers phone said my sister was calling her and they were sitting right next to each other and knew my sister did NOT call her.  It has a fake person (recording) that makes it sound like they are waiting for your response back.  People are using this and putting in fake caller id numbers.  My sister also had a girl call her, very unhappy, saying she pranking her phone.  My sister alerted her to prankdial.com and assured her it was not her calling.  I'm sure there are many websites out there like this.

We at Girard/Richardson Inc would like to apologize up front for any messages that might have been perceived as "shady" or “slimy”. We hold ourselves to the upmost standards of professionalism and we are very good at what we do.  I would like to take this opportunity to present our case and shed some light on our business. “GRI” is a boutique professional search firm specializing in the recruitment and placement of Engineering and Executive talent for some of the hottest technology companies on the planet.  We cater to two specific areas: 1) Stellar companies looking to build a solid technical/leadership foundation.  2) Developing relationships with outstanding talent.

We are not a “telemarketing” firm. Nor are we attempting to sell you anything.

If you have been contacted by us, you have most likely been referred to us by someone in our network or we had prior knowledge of you in the past. You might have even sent your resume to us at some point in your career progression.  We do realize that you might already be engaged which is why our call is of a “sensitive nature”. Our voicemail message is simply designed to protect the designated recipient.  Fact is, we do not know who checks your voicemail and we would not want to do anything to jeopardize your current work situation.

If you have received a call from an 808 number then it is a direct extension from one of our team members in our Honolulu location. Some of our team has been fortunate enough to be located in Hawaii.

Got the call on my office phone, maggie beach: "Time sensitive, call before 3:00" called back and asked person who answered 'what company is this and like others was told they handle calls for various businesses. Told them if it's important they'll call back and refused to give any information or speak further.

Rick --

Can you train your staff to leave more information in their voicemail messages? Just giving their name and a request to call back is not so effective. If the recruiter is looking for me for a specific role, how about giving some detail, at least the title, giving me a reason to call him/her back rather than ignoring the message?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

I guess you didn't read the part about why recruiters don't leave specific info on your voice mail, but I do know one guy that got fired because of the kind of message you are asking them to leave.

Got a series of messages from this sleazy recruiting company Girard/Richardson.  Must have had at least 15 voicemails from "Mary Despay" with no company name, title or reason for calling.
"Hi!  Nature of the call is somewhat sensitive, so do give me a call back today.  I do need to speak with you by 3:30, 4pm, 5pm (it changed).  Call me at 408-971-3000."
Funny thing is that every day I got the same call, so the time-sensitive nature must reset every night at midnight.  :D
One just came on May 26, 2010, so Girard above either doesn't know what his people are doing or approves of this sleazy behavior.

I just got a call from Mary <something> too.  "Hi Mike, long time no chat!"
No pressure but definitely playing some game as if I'm supposed to know who she is and call her back.  Shady.  Caller ID shows 8084475937 but she gave 4089713000.

Ken Vanderhaden from Girard Richardson Executive Search, overly aggressive, not willing to listen, sounds like a rookie.  Said he is based out of San Jose off Berryessa RD.  There is not Executive search firm located there I looked.

I am called several times a day by Ken

Ken Vanderhaden from Girard Richardson Executive Search. Rude. Obnoxious. Got defensive when I asked a few questions about how he obtained my phone number.

Sounds like a call center in the background.

This is the third or fourth time I've heard from them. They have taken to blocking their caller id.

called saying that they had a "sensitive subject to discuss".

would not tell me what it was about until i gave them my name... I played along because I was curious.  The guys name was Ken Vanderhaden or something.  Finally found out that this guy is a recruiter and the "urgent" and "sensitive" issue was that he was basically a telemarketer.  I said, "not interested" and hung up and this jerk had the audacity to call back and tell me that I was unprofessional for hanging up on him, which prompted me to hang up on him again.  :)

Recieved a call asking for CEO.. Would not state reason for call, said it was a personal matter and to be connected to voicemail. Did not put through and asked for a phone number and name. She gave me Maggie at 408.971.3000. Call originated from .

I called the number back and a girl answered with Girard Richardson. I said someone had called from this number and she asked my name and put me on hold- not sure why. Then I asked her what company it was and she said she was just the operator and answered phones for a lot of different companies BUT that was a LIE because she answered it Girard Richardson and I asked her again and said it didn't matter.

Some recruiters can be so nasty and sneaky... I have family in recruiting and they don't do any of this stuff!

Got 3 calls on my phonemail within last week, all went like this:
"Hi, this is Rick Girard, Please call me back before 4 <or 6 on one call> PM today, the matter is <still> time sensitive. My phone is 408 971-300."

The very first call went actually a bit differently as he pretended to state what business he's affiliated with:

"Hi, this is Rick Gerard, I'm with <gurgle> ..." he actually sounded as if he was choking but then went on with the "time-sensitve" bit.

That number goes with Girard Richardson (a recruiting agency):

I get regular calls from them and it's always the same: "the nature of my call is somewhat time-sensitive...", dead give away for a recruiter.

"Hi this is [a common cute name] my call is a bit time sensitive so I would appreciate if you could give me a call back before 6:30 tonight.  My number is 408-971-3000."

A few notes:
1) Call came from a different phone number (808-447-5936) than the call back number
2) Call is from someone I never heard before
3) Caller doesn't say which company she's calling from or what's the purpose of the call
4) Some web sleuthing indicated it is one of those pushy recruiting companies.

Needless to say, I don't intend to respond.
