I enjoyed reading the previous posts.  It is a scam.
My wife received a call from this law firm threatening to jail her if she did not pay back a loan.  The amount due was supposedly in excess of $800.  After my wife told me about this I called the "law firm" back and was handed off to the gentleman that spoke with her.  He spoke with a heavy accent (Indian I believe) and informed me that he was one of the paralegals assisting in my wife's case.

After talking with this man for several minutes trying to get him to provide me with some specifics (original loan amount, date of deposit, etc.) I told him that it all sounded like a scam.  He assured me that it was no scam and if the loan was not quickly repaid they would initiate the process to have my wife arrested the next morning (or after the weekend at the latest).

I told him that I would return his call after I returned home from work and had an opportunity to investigate the whole issue.  I confirmed that my wife had received no such loan and that no deposits had been made to any of our accounts.  I also Googled their phone number and was able to confirm that it was a scam.

So .... I called them back.  They took some time away from me so I decided to return the favor.

I told them that my wife indeed had a loan deposited to her account that she could not explain.  I asked him to reconfirm the amount that we owed.  Again, he stated an amount in excess of $800.  I told him that it was strange that they were only requesting payment for that amount as the deposit into my wife's account was $1180.27 (pulled from thin air).  He excused himself to check my wife's file.  When he returned he stated that the total amount due was over $1200.  He apologized for not adding in the "OOC" (Out of Code) charge.  Of course I thanked him profusely and told him that it looked like I and my wife came out pretty good on our late charges and interest fees having to pay only slightly more than the original loan amount.

He transferred me to the "Firm's" payment department.  Another individual with the same strong accent gave me detailed instructions (which he had me repeat) as to how to process the payment through a local drug store (via Wells Fargo).  He told me to make sure that I brought an extra $20 to cover the Wells Fargo processing fees.  I told him I would take care of it within 2 hours.

2 1/2 hours later the guy from the payment department called me back asking if I had made the transaction.  I told him that I had not.  I related how I and my wife were going through a divorce and that my attorney had directed me to not pay off my wife's debt.  My attorney felt that it would help my case.  The payment guy told me how terrible a person I was for doing that to my wife.  I told him that I really did not care since I was divorcing her anyway and hung up the phone.

A few minutes later the "paralegal" guy called me back and said that I had made a promise to pay and that I could also be facing legal action.  He informed me that my wife would be picked up by the police at her place of work the next morning (my wife is not employed).  I told him that was great as it would really help me in our divorce case and would be a big plus for me to get custody of our 3 small children (my kids are all adults and have families of their own).  He  also tried to make me feel bad about allowing this to happen to my wife.

The next day I waited patiently for the police to arrive to arrest my wife .... they did not show.

The following Monday I received a call from a "Detective" with the LAPD.  He informed me that my local police would be coming to our address to arrest both myself and my wife.  I asked why they would be arresting me ... after all it was not my loan.  He stated that in my "taped" conversation that I had admitted to the amount due and had made a promise to pay.  I told him that he was wrong about my legal responsibility for the debt and that I would be awaiting the arrival of the police the next morning.  It has been a week or more and I am still waiting.

Bottom-line:  I determined that these people had fair amount of accurate data on I and my wife ... addresses, phone numbers, and most importantly bank account numbers.  I immediately contacted the affected bank and had the account restricted.

My wife had, in fact, applied for a loan on-line.  These scammers were able to hack into that information.

Be careful with the information that you put out on the net.  If you get a call from these guys ... and you have the time ... screw with them ... cause they will certainly screw with you!

I think I will call them on Monday and find out why they still haven't come to arrest my wife yet.  I'm ready to move on with my life.

Total scam.  Ignore 'em.  Contact local police.  If they are out-of-country scammers there's nothing you can do except block the call.  There are a lot of pretty good blocking devices out there.

I keep getting threatening calls from 409-299-8784 & 409-200-2078. When I ask what is the call for, they say I'm being sued and I'm going to go to jail if I don't cooperate with them. They hang up the phone when I ask for a supervisor, when I ask about the law firm they represent, they start cursing me out calling a black b*****d. I have ask numerous times for them to stop calling, but they keep calling and sometimes they just call and hang up playing on my phone. What should I do about this?

Do NOT pay them another dime! There's more than enough evidence in this thread to prove they're fraudulent, but the clincher is the reference to a green-dot card. Legitimate lenders and collection outfits NEVER require payment by a pre-paid card.  EVER! The mere mention of one is a giant red flag. Ignore the caller or block their calls. They ARE FRAUDS!
Be Safe. Be Aware.

Odd thing is he didn't ask for money. or at least yet... They had my email, phone number and bank. Has me worried.

A company using callers with southwest asian/urdu accents calls my daughter?s number looking for a random name "Laura Jones" "Steven Smith" or another generic type name, they insist the person "lives" here though they are calling a cell phone number and want personal details to confirm the person that is ?being investigated at this number? is not at the number they've called.  Then when that information is refused they insist that they are calling the local authorities to come arrest me.  Then after a while a guy with a bad American accent, almost a mix of Valley Girl-Jersey Shore gets on the phone and insists he is the Texas State Attorney General. Seriously, dude, I?m looking for someone to stick with a hat pin the gauge of a railroad tie and hook it up to a battery, come on over.

Got a phone call from 409 200 2078. East Indian voice threatened me with arrest and the sherrif's office was going to call me back about a case filed against me in court. I told them I wouldn't confirm anything. They had my address and the last four of my SSN and we went back and forth a few minutes unti i got fed up and hung up. I do have debts I need to pay but this was very weird. I called the local sherrif's office and they said it was a scam and to check my bank accounts frequently.

A person named Troy Conner, who sounded like English was a language recently learned called me. He did not say what agency he was calling from, just that I or my lawyer needed to call him back right now and if i did not he felt sorry for me for the events that would come. I did not call him back because it was not a business professional call, so it sounded a little funny to me. I also wonder how many people that they are calling recently applied for a loan online? (Has to be a total Scam)

A man with a middle eastern accent called multiple times to my cell and work leaving threatening messages that there was a lawsuit against me and threatening I would be arrested at my job. When I asked to have the complaint faxed to me, he stated that he could not do that. He asked me to hold on and forgot to put me on hold. He answered another call that I could hear, he said "American cash.com can I help you". When he returned to the phone I called his bluff. After that I just told him BRING IT ON !!! Two hours later another man from the same number called again! Seriously??? He stated they already notified the police and they would be at my work in the morning. I asked what police dept and he said Morris Plains State Police. LOL NO SUCH PD !!!

These people called and of course can't speak clearly but they were going to have an arrest warrant out on me.  Wouldn't tell me what for, that they were going to have their attorneys get speak with me.  They called my cell phone and then they called my work number.  I work for a police department, so if they have an arrest warrant out on me, come serve it.  I don't owe anyone any money.
