This is not necessarily true,

They are not "scams" in that some of the money does go to whatever organization they are claiming to be affiliated with. The police or fire or veterans or whatever allows them to use their name, and then is given usually 70 percent of what is collected. They don't ever really ask for your credit cards or anything over the phone, just that you leave a check out for them, or mail it in. Depending on county, sometimes they have actual police come and pick it up, or just some guy that the police give credentials to pick it up on their behest. It's basically just free money to them for no effort. If you have a problem with how your local police fundraises,  bring it up with them, but to call these people "scam artists" and "parasites" is a little unjust.

This is a  scam, boiler room operation. I received a call a couple of days ago from the United States Armed Forces Associatoion, other calls from the Montgomery County Disabled Policeman's Association and the Navy Veterans Association. They sound legit but are scams. They want your credit card and banking info and these cockroaches will drain you dry. Beware, scams are popping up everywhere.

Just got a call from them saying the call was recorded.  I am on the National Do Not Call list.  I called back immediately and got some man who said that they were out of Nevada, and to ask for a John A. Bartlett, Jr.  at 800.920.7730.  I called that number and the person who answered said they were an answering service for a fund raising group.  Oh, the 410.705.6244 guy said they are on a special do not call list.  B.S.  They represented themselves as giving you protection for $50; $35 or $15.  Threatening manner.  Further that it was for a Baltimore, MD FOP, not even in my region of the state.  The man who answered the 800 #  said he was in Wisconsin.  I requested that my number be removed, and if they ever call again, I will report them.

called me and i called back and it beeps and someone picks up and says hello. its a different person everytime....someone picked up and said there name was evelyn ross or something haha weird

I just got a new land line, the telemarketing telephone calls started - not 30 minutes after my service was on.  OKAY, I get a second line for fax calls only, I my transmission report spits out all of these calls that are coming through to a new fax line.  PEOPLE, it has to be the telephone that's even allowing this harrassment to happen.  I've even asked for non-publised, non-address listed telephone accounts.  It has to be the telephone company.  THERE'S OUR PROBLEM.

When I answered, nothing but dead air. I never respond positively to any sales or begging call; I just wanted to tell them to remove my number from their list.

A guy calls today with a heavy accent claiming he is representing fallen Police found..
he asks if we can donate..
we used to do it in the past so I agreed..

so he then starts to asing me questions.. I was not comfortable with.. verifying address.. name..
and asking how much I will donate.. I said a small sum and then he said he will transfer me to
verify even more and to confirm..

so another guy comes on the line with even more heavy accent.. and
then I just hang up

thsi call was listed as originated from Baltirmore.. those people sounded like from some
mid west place..

definitey did not sound legit.. most definitely.

I don't answer call from numbers I don't recognize.  I know these call are usually from someone soliting funds.  I have received several calls from this number.  I will not answer.

Just got a call from this number -- pause then called with a very quiet voice looking for my husband.  Would not talk with me -- said he was from the Fraternal Order of Police.  Called back ... number out of service.  Interesting -- if the police want contributions they be able to answer return calls.

Received called from 4107056244 and when I picked up no one was there. I called back to this number and auto machine said "you have dialed the number which has been disconnected" How this can be possible?

Received call on 3/28/11 @ 11:31am. Advd caller I may be able to donate; he insisted on asking the amount I would give. I advised again would do as I deemed necessary. He hung up.

This is not the Police Department calling you for donations. It is a professional fundraiser calling on behalf of a police union or association. The Paid fundraiser can take as much as 99% of your donation. Then they use that 99% to call you again and again and again for more donations that will do no good for your Police Department or anyone else for that matter. Your best bet is to hang up the phone and if you want to give to the police then call your local police department by getting their number out of the phone book.

When you redial the number, the operator comes on and says it is not in service.   How can this be,if they can make a call from this number in the last 5 minutes.  Frustrating, and cheesy.  Especially annoying when one is expecting a call from a hospital of a loved one and there is no message attached.  You wonder if you missed it or what.
