EXACTLY!! Because if you actually said YES to them you would have one less household utility to complain about. And it has been proven that people are not happy unless they can complain!

@Westminster, The only people that complain are the ones who OBVIOUSLY fell asleep during current events class in school!!
This is a legitimate company that is trying to EDUCATE people about saving on their electric bill each month. The question I have is if this is a scam company, why are they STILL in business and have NOT been splashed all over the internet as being investigated. GROW UP PEOPLE and smell the electric rates. You're being taken for a ride!!

I have sent the following to North American Power:

Your company has been using a telemarketing company to make cold calls to BGE Customers. Under Federal Law, the telemarketer is required to use the National Do Not Call Registry. Also upon reaching a party they are required to identify themselves and the company they represent. Your telemarketer does none of these things and has had numerous reports filed with the FTC. In spite of being told of the violation, and in spite of the requests from called parties, your telemarketer continues to make unwanted calls in violation of the laws. To avoid a fine, you should fire the company immediately. The phone number they use is 410-878-6079.

Note, I am forwarding this note to the FTC to document the problem.

He sounded like a very inexperienced/untrained telemarketer. A little weird. I told him we don't do business on the phone.

I'm on Do not call too. She was totally uniformed about that. Was trying to sell some discount electricity. NOT Viridian (that's what I have). Very misleading, tried to sound official.

The point is that they are calling ppl who are on the don't call list.  I suppose Constellation can do that because they have ties to BGE, and companies who we do business with are allowed to call.  But these companies that are not related to BGE should not be allowed to call.

To both Mikey and Westminster --  guys, there is no need to be rude and/or condescending to the people making comment on this board, there are here to get information on a number calling and make a comment, as you yourselves have chosen to do.  It's nice that Westminster gave some helpful information, but there is no need to act like anyone being suspicious is wrong or uneducated.  Unfortunately too many scams and frauds have made it wise to be this way.  In my case, our household received a knock on the door a few months ago.  I generally don't answer the door if I'm not expecting someone as I'm disabled and in a great deal of pain; however, the gentleman knocking indicated that he was from "gas and electric".  And yes, while he did not state "Baltimore Gas & Electric" (BGE), the way it was stated was clearly made to lead the person receiving such a visit to believe that it was.  So when I opened it to speak with him (as I thought there might be an issue), I noticed that he didn't have on the BGE uniform and then he was asking about our bill.  I figured then he was probably a sales rep for another company (as, yes, I do stay current and keep up with the news and am more than well aware of energy deregulation in the state of Maryland and have been for quite some time), and asked if he were a BGE employee to which he responded no.  I have no idea if this is the same company doing the door to door as was making the phone calls, but it seems as though this has been happening within the same recent time frame.  I will also note that the gentleman at the door was courteous and kind, but I don't agree with any salesperson, phone or in person, being scripted to be misleading or omitting just enough information to have the person on the other end of the call come to a wrong assumption of who they are talking to.  At least now anyone receiving this call knows who it is on the other end of this number and whether or not they wish to answer it and discuss rates.  May we all have a blessed and happy 2011.

I have to agree with Mikey from Baltimore. People....you need to stay current. Lets get a little education going on this site. BGE deregulated. With de-regulation comes other suppliers that want to sell you power. BGE has got to supply through the current system. North American Power is one such company that wants to offer you power for 9.49 cent versus the current 10.5 cents BGE is currently charging. This is all legal and if you kept up with current State Laws and mandates you would know this.

This program may not be for everybody but for some it is a savings. BGE doesn't like it but they can't stop it. If you would read the pamphlets sent to you by BGE in your bill, you would know what this is all about.

One thing to remember,  all companies brokering power can raise and lower their rate according to an index. So what may be cheapest today, may not be cheapest tomorrow. I nether endorse or reject what North American is doing, I'm only trying to educate.

Started off by asking to speak to the person in charge of the BGE bill.  Then said that she was calling to get us on a program blah blah choice blah blah BGE blah blah lower your electric bill.

She was clearly trying to make me think that it was BGE calling.  Very scammy.

I called the number and spoke to an operator and asked to be put on the Do Not Call list.  Although I got a recording initially identifying the company as "NexGen Energy", the man I spoke with said that the company is North American Power, and "NexGen Energy" is the company that is "handling the accounts in my area."  He said I was getting calls about reducing my power bills, and even though I had told him at the beginning of the call that I wanted to be placed on the Do Not Call list, he launched into a sales spiel.

I told him that I had gotten numerous calls from this number and no message was ever left on my voicemail, they just kept calling back.  He apologized and said the sales reps are supposed to leave messages, but I'm pretty sure that's a lie.

Anyway, I am filing a complaint with the FCC.  I am already on the National Do Not Call registry.

I didn't pick up, but I called them back at the same number and got a recording.  "Thank you for calling NexGen Energy.  If you know your agent's number, you can dial it now."

I'm guessing they're trying to get me to change my energy provider?

These people chronically call, I tell them I'm on the DO NOT CALL list yet they keep calling. They also tell me I have to renew DNC annually (not true ... I'm current). I gladly reported them. BTW, try calling their number ... you can't make out the name of the company.
