These a***oles violated the Do Not Call list by telemarketing to me.  I have filed a formal FCC complaint against Verizon and recommend that you do as well.

They called me and didn't leave a message.  We can't even get DSL or regular broadband in our neighborhood. You'd think Verizon would know that because periodically someone in the neighborhood asks about it

My son is deployed so I run to the phone every time a number comes up that I don't recognize.  Because believe me he has called home using calling cards with all kinds of names and numbers. Of course no one answered when this number showed up so I panicked until I saw the notes at this site. Thanks a bunch all of you. They will get a good piece of my mind if they call back and IF they speak. Military moms can rip these telemarketers like nobody's business. If course most don't care but I feel better!

It is Verizon calling. They are calling about new product updates. Call the number back and select option # 3 to have your number placed on their Do Not Call list.  Worked like a charm.

Try this.
http://www.webwithwes.com/defeat.htm

The TeleZapper is a device that plays the first tone in the three tones that precede the telephone company's historic "This number has been disconnected" message. Most telemarketing dialers listens for that tone, and when it is present, assumes the number is disconnected, the telemarketing dialer will immediately disconnect and delete your phone number from it's data bank list.

This is easy to set up, if you have an answering machine and sound for your computer you have everything you need.

If a computer Telemarketer calls, they won't leave a message (because the dialer has hung up, removed your phone number from the database and moved on to the next number in it's database). If it's a friend, well; life is normal, no change. If your not home, they can record a message for you. Your friends will hear the 'DO-DA-DEE' and then your voice greeting, after which they can leave a message. (Or if you use the single tone they will hear just 'DO'). If after hearing who's on the other end of the line and you want to take the call, simply pick up the handset and say "Hello"

Follow the instructions listed below and all of your calls will be screened AUTOMATICALLY!
Here's How it's Done:

Put your TELEPHONE ANSWERING MACHINE next to your computer speaker, (Or the other way around) and play the sound file. Record the sound file at the beginning of your outgoing message, then simply complete your voice greeting. Now your done! Now just sit back and let the answering machine screen your calls.

After perhaps a month of letting your answering machine screen all of your evening and weekend incoming calls, you'll have the same results as a $40.00 TeleZapper. It's that easy, It's that fast! This will work on any answering machine, digital or tape based and is compatible with Call Waiting & Caller ID. It will even work with the answering service provided by most telephone company's. (Except you don't get to screen your calls this way, this is because you would not be able to hear the callers message).

Nicole, and others:

Your original instinct, not to provide any information, was correct.   The perpetrators set up a robotic system that just calls numbers at random (or sometimes in a sequence).   E-mail scams work the same way.  They are counting on the fact that statistically some number of the folks they call will actually be customers of the company they purport to represent.

Apparently these folks are versatile.  In my case the Phishing expedition came from the 888 number and the opt out number was the 410 number.

The reverse directory search I did showed the 410 number as being in Columbia.

Taped, robo-call about a Verizon offer.  Verizon doesn't have anyone available over the weekend (union rules no doubt) to report on and discuss their pitiful services. My three years with Verizon Business is up in October and I will never, ever, in a million years buy from them again.

This is Verizon. Something about small business. I listened all the way through the recorded information and got a number to call about removing my number from the calling list. I could barely understand the woman on the line, so I just asked for my number to be placed on the do not call list. She asked for my phone number, which I gave her, and my name and address, which I refused to give. She told me my number could not be removed from their calling list without giving up my name and address. I call bullcrap.

I do have Verizon cellular service, but my landline is with another company. I hate these calls.

A pre-recorded message allegedly from Verizon calling our business about ways they can increase our business productivity.  Yeah, I know of a quick way they can help increase our productivity - stop calling us about things we don't want!  I had to listen to the long-winded spiel until I got the option for being on their do-not-call list but, get this, you have to CALL them to be placed on the list.  So I called 410-910-0614, as the message directed, had to listen to another somewhat lengthy recorded message then finally was able to punch a number to talk to someone. It took about 5 minutes to get through THAT process, a needlessly tedious process that involved being told it would take 30 days for the request to be processed, that it would be in effect for 10 years, yadda, yadda, yadda.  I had to give our company phone number AND the account (company) name AND the address.

Via my home recording, I got a long-winded call trying to sell us Verizon ?services?, offering a $200 card and free web dev service for a two-three year commitment.  It finally said that, to get on the Do Not Call list, call 410-910-0614, which eventually directed me to a  real body that wanted more than just the number (which I had just provided) .  She wanted name & address as well.  I told her that I was only required to provide the number, and that if they called back, I?d report them to the PUC, and hung up.  I suspect this is a 3rd party  marketing firm that has few scruples, but is IS apparent they are selling Verizon business services.

Call from Verizon about business services. They make you call back to be taken off their call list, and then you have to give your name, address, and the phone number for them to take you off the list. I didn't want to give them any information, but I'm sick of getting these calls. The woman I spoke to said it would take 30 days for the number to be taken off the list. We'll see if that actually happens.

When you call to be removed you end up in the Philippines at a call centre with a very hard to understand person.

It makes me so mad as I have told them before to stop calling, same call centre in the Philippines to put me on the list etc. etc. so I gave them rock all.

Then it was we may call you again about blah blah non soliciting, and I just said so you are recording this call so I say again I don't want any calls to my business at all or I will take things much further.

I may still write to someone high up in Verizon stateside to make sure.

I expect it from spammers etc but not a company like Verizon who were not helpful btw when I was initially surfing looking for business support, so went elsewhere.

Got an unsolicited call from these guys, made the mistake of trying to call them to have my number removed, I gave them the phone numbe/details and then they wanted all sorts of other personal details so just told them do you think I am silly and not to call again.

I don't use Verizon for my business and they are like oh we are allowed to call you, oh really when I use Brighthouse I don't think so.

I told her she found the details to call me in the first place, so find them to stop calling me.

Sounded like she was in India! She just kept prattling on and on and on, so in the end I said again, what I needed to say, said goodbye and hung up.

I wonder if these companies realize how much damage it does as I have Verizon in a totally different state/location which isn''t tied in with my businesswhatsoever and now I am thinking about switching.
