Just got the text on Dec 25 at 6 PM PST ..it stated caller iD 9099 your Visa has been frozen call 414 434 4743 immediately. I called and it sounded very official including ...this call may be recorded for performance or quality control they begin by asking for your Visa card number ... hang up ..and report it to the FBI National Credit Card Fraud unit.

Along with many others, I got this text message in an attempt to "phish" for a credit card number -
(9099)Customer issue,Visa service frozen, call at 414-434-4743
This number is a landline in the Brown Deer area of Milwaukee. It appears to be issued by a landline service provider called "Us Xchange Of Wisconsin Llc", which lists the business number (608) 268-7200 for Madison and the number 800-353-8000 for Green Bay. Please call this provider and demand termination of the landline number. Demand that the provider send the account informatiuon to the Federal Trade Commission and FBI. The Milwaukee Police Department hasn't responded yet but I am going to persist. Call them also to complain. This phishing scam which has touched your life will fool some people. Let's stop it. It exists only because of lack of effort and initaiative, which lets this easily soluable matter to fall through the cracks. Please make a few calls.

customer issue, visa service is frozen. please call 414 434 4743
jiggywithit 2009-12-26 14:26:05 Unknown
cool glad to see there are others out there. don't call the number back even to be funny and type in bogus cc #'s. By doing so you've just opened up your phone number to more things like this. Could this be an inside job by a current or ex-Sprint employee? what are the authorities doing about this?
Vant 2009-12-26 14:14:33 Unknown
I got a text message that my Visa was frozen at 7:20 PM Christmas Day. First of all, I don't have messaging on my phone, so Sprint has some explaining to do. Second, my Visa provider calls me directly whenever there is a charge on my account that does not look right or is over a certain amount. So these boobs are dumb enough to think that I will call them instead of calling Visa directly? I think not.
Jayne Cobb 2009-12-26 08:39:35 Unknown
I don't get spam in my email. Not one bit. I protect my info. I also don't get phishing in my text messages...unless someone drops the ball. If you screw up and don't do your job and cause me problems, you WILL get chewed out. Deal with it.
Mousieh 2009-12-26 07:05:03 Unknown
I also got the 9099 text and thought it was the text was strange. The way it came in appear unprofessional...words weren't capitalized and no specific Visa company mentioned. I used a friend's cell to call the #, and hung up once the recording did not identify what company, just asked the caller to enter their 16 digit Visa #. Scammers are getting smarter with their schemes.

I'm on Sprint as well and received this text at 8:29pm PST. Luckily I did some research before I called this number. Thanks.

I believe the crook is accessing numbers through bank info - I live in a state other than WI, but the bank which issues my card is HQed in Milwaukee. Sound familiar?

Same thing, Both myself and wife within minutes got the same text message... so how are our phone numbers being released?
Jordan 2009-12-26 04:03:32 Unknown
Yeah, you say that, but how in gods name did they get our numbers? They "hacked" into Sprint? HAH! No, they didn't. Our numbers were sold to 3rd parties. The end. Sprint lost 800,000 customers last quarter (true story, ATT gained 2.1 million) and they needed to make up for it. I say call and demand compensation.
Scott 2009-12-26 03:46:55 Unknown
@Jayne Cobb and everyone else suggesting to call Sprint and chew them out....settle down. Its the same as spam in your email. Delete it and move on.

Got this message on two of my spring phones today, Christmas.
Sam 2009-12-26 03:05:37 Unknown
Just got the same message from the same number. It's obviously a CC# phishing scheme. Probably originating from Nigeria lol. Yeah sure, I'll enter my 16 digit CC# for you. Would you idiots like some fries with that too?

(and it is a scam )
Just called Sprint customer service they have been trying to deal with this issue for a month and can not seem to catch them. The Sprint CS has asked me to forward my text msg back to sprint so they can try and get a lock on it. This is what she said to do.
forward the text msg from your phone to:
abuse@messaging.sprintpcs.com
orgo to
www.sprint.net then and click on the link
https://www.sprint.net/index.php?p=suport report scan
(and yes she said spaces between the words after the = sign)

jay 2009-12-26 02:33:50 Unknown

angelsamongstus 2009-12-26 02:14:11 Unknown
I just got this message too....on my sprint phone saying, Message: customer issue, visa service frozen please call at 414-434-4743. I think these are people that are getting our information somehow from Sprint. WE should ALL be remimbersed for this. These people are looking to get credit card information. Some people might just fall for this. Maybe, I should call my local police department just to be safe.
