This is a scam, they will say something about tax return and will want your money for fines. They will ask the attorney information and n will say you have only few hours to resolve this case otherwise the case will be filed. If we do not pay money by payment voucher. Please do not panic. and do not pay any money to them.

Is there anyway we can report this Scam? I got a phone call this morning with the call back number 415-251-8500 and the name Michael Carter. I asked the caller (with very strong Indian accent) to send me the information through regular mail.

message left on answering machine from Indian accent male, caller id said Novato CA as origin of call. He said there was a tax deficiency and His name is Sam Taylor and to not try to disregard the call but to call ASAP, because this is time sensitive and before any legal action.    I thought SCAM, what kind of fool does he think one is IRS doesn't make phone call nor do the County, or City tax deapartments.I would have gotten a letter first.

This guy called me at about noon today. He left a message just as he did everyone else. When I called back, a woman answered. I asked for her badge number, she didn't have one. Instead she had an employee ID number. All IRS agents have badge numbers. She read from the same script that she read to everyone else. It was pretty scary. I told her I would have an attorney call her. When I called back, I spoke with another indian dude, but understandable. He told me I needed to clear this matter up immediately or my county police would arrest me tomorrow morning at my house. By this time my son had googled the phone number and had found out about the scam. The call got a little heated when he told me to go F--- myself. I told him I was going to contact the IRS and the FTC (as IRS's site says to do). He told me "Good, don't forget the FBI! What a smart a**. Now he won't pick up my calls. Sometimes the message box is full. Other times I leave pleasant messages for him. I think we should ALL return his favor. His number is (415) 251-8500

thank you all who reported this.  confirmed my suspicions that it's a scam.  have to wonder what / how they pursue this.   this is the text version (as interpreted by my voicemail service) of the message left on 4/4/14:

"This message is intended for our birth audio work(?) the very second you receive this message I need you audio leaking attorney off records to return the call. The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive. My name is Frank Martin from tax mitigation Department and hotline to my division is 4152518500. I repeat it's 4152518500. Don't try to disregard this message and do return the call as soon as possible before any legal action takes place. We have determined that that is-that-if-you(?) should answer your income tax and your reference number is 849020. I repeat it's 849220. So goodbye and take care."

we had a message from a woman with a heavy accent. Only able to make out a few words. we should call asap before it goes to litigation and we could make out the # plus it came up on caller ID. When we called Saturday, the recorder was full and could not leave a message. My husband called the # today and they answered as . He told them he got a message to call this number, the gentleman said She called again today said her name was Nancy Smith. She said there was something wrong with my W2 and asked me for my lawyer's phone #. when I told her I didn't have a lawyer, she told me to get a pen and paper and gave me the same phone # to call. I told her the IRS doesn't make phone calls. She was gone.

Good catch!

Here is what I see of that address using Google Instant Street View:
http://www.instantstreetview.com/2f5k64z13dcj1z3c8zicz2u

It looks like the inside of a deli of some sort that provides free WiFi services.

Also, usps.com (the Post Office lookup site) shows a lot of big businesses and office suites there (including Smith/Barney, the financial firm, and Jones Day, one of the biggest law firms in the country), but it also shows Max's Diner there, which is where this guy seems to be operating from, if he is the same as this Language Marketplace Translation Services.

Someone might go out to Max's Diner someday soon and ring 415-251-8500 on their own magicJack to see what happens.  I would think there's a chance of getting a few chuckles at a scammer's expense if you do, but make sure you ask for the IRS.

Also remember, this may not expose him directly.  He may still be working from home and using the diner only as a meeting place for his translation service, so you might have to ask to meet him over there to "discuss you problem."  But if you choose this latter course of action, don't actually go down to meet him -- just see what his reaction is over the phone.

So I received the same call very heavy accent could barely understand.  I called the woman (with a thick accent) explained to me that there was tax descrepancy and that because I failed to reply to the 2 certified letters they sent there was now a warrant for my arrest.  She read me my rights through an affidavit, I started to question things she told me my address where things were delivered and it was my actual address, She told me to get a tax laywer and  when I started pushing she hung up on me.  I called back and spoke to a gentleman who had an accent but was very understandable.  He reviewed everything again and told me to contact a tax lawyer as tomorrow I would be served papers and there would be a warrant for my arrest in there, and I needed to follow the instructions when I got the package.  When I said do I need to be home for this they told me if  I wasn't the sheriff's department would call me.   I called my accountant and she said the IRS would NEVER call anyone.   She instructed we report to the Treasury Inspector General and our local police.  The police officer confirmed the IRS would NEVER call.
I am floored I fell for it, but because they weren't asking for money or personal information I didn't think it was a scam at the time.  I now see all the red flags, but at the time I couldn't.
