I just received a call from this number as well and while I too went to SFSU many years ago, there is no valid reason why they would call me now. I will ignore this number and add it to my blocked call log. Thank you everyone who researched and posted.

got a call from this number today, a SUNDAY!  didn't pick up, knowing that no one from the sfsu prefix would be calling me.  i am an alum of sfsu, but find it hard to believe that the csu system would use our phone numbers to solicit, much less on a sunday.  and the way the people calling hanging up is awfully strange, too!  something's wrong!

I got a call from this number, and after reading this post I'm sure it is SFSU calling for something.  I went to SFSU and after calling the number back, I recognized the recorded voice; it's the same one I heard for years. I'm pretty sure it's not a scam; I'm just not sure if they're looking for donations, or if a former professor (from an office phone) was trying to reach me.

It is the SFSU Alumni association soliciting donations.

I think, based on recent Facebook activity, that this is NOT SFSO, but phone phishers who are somehow monitoring FB for any mention of SF State, and then call people whom they think might be alumni for
"Donations". If this description makes any sense at all to you, then it brings a number of very serious questions about FaceBook's privacy and security procedures, or lack thereof, into seriou being.

Got a call from 415-338-6986 today claiming they're California State University San Marcos.  They were asking for a monetary donation to help further CSUSM's "growth" which is a crock as I have noticed its continued dramatic growth since graduating in 2007.  

Several reasons why this caller is a scam.  1.) None of CSUSM's telephone numbers have the San Francisco "415" area code.  2.) The caller could not  give me any contact information where I could make a future donation such as her email address, direct telephone # for donations, CSUSM alumni link, etc. and insisted the cutoff to donate was midnight tonight and that I should act quickly.  3.) She incessantly kept trying to lower the "donation" amount to see whether I would bite.  Beware folks!

I wonder if SFSU aware of this? and if they are? what will they do? Hmmm

Just got a call from this #.  did not answer and no message left.  Reported a complaint to DO NOT CALL and I better not ever get a call from this # again.  Calls will be carefully documented and reported.

They called me today at 6:59pm but I sent it straight to voicemail. I don't know why they keep calling after I tell them so many times that I do NOT have money to donate. If they really want me to call them back, they should leave a message. But they never do. One of these days, I will answer and yell at them and tell them to stop calling me. I put their number on the National Do Not Call registry and I think it helps a little bit because they are calling me less than before. Now it's like once every once as oppose to 2 or 3 times per month.

Yeah, Leland Yee the new SFSU prez has been really aggro about fundraising. Too aggro for me.

Amazing. Somehow I get called at 2:30 AM on a Thursday morning on a VOIP program that I got for free and the only calls I made were to local stores earlier in the day. I answer, and there is literally no noise. No caller ID or anything.

I live in Florida, I am not in college, and have never made a call to California from what I remember.

I got a call from this number on 8/30/2012 and 9/9/2012. I have gotten calls from this number several more times in the past and I only talked to them 2 times. Unfortunately they are NOT smart to realize that if I don't ever answer their calls, not to call me back. I guess it takes a person with a brain to figure it out and apparently whoever is calling doesn't have a brain. Anyways I hope they don't call me again because it is donation from SFSU and I don't know if it is legit so I am not going to donate anything over the phone. Although I was a student at SFSU, I don't want to donate over the phone because it could be fake. Anyone could say they are from SFSU. So the first time I got a call from them (maybe a couple years ago?), I told them that I was currently unemployed at the time and couldn't donate. But they kept insisting that I at least donate $1.00 or $2.00. I then told them, "No, I have no money" after telling the person like 100 times, she finally said "Okay, good night" and then the 2nd time they called, I was at the mall so I at least had a good excuse not to talk to them. But ever since then, they keep calling and from then on, I don't answer the phone. I just send it to my VM. I probably have gotten like 100 calls from them within the past couple of years.

Someone from this number called me and then hung up.  I do not know why.

This is San Francisco State University. I wish this would stop

My Mother got a call from this number at 8:57 PM last night and she lives in Nevada and has been dead for almost a year. This is not legitimate. She'd never give money to SFSU in a million years. But they asked for her by name and refused to indicate why they were calling.

I just received 4 attempted fax transmissions (to my cell phone) from this number.  I dialed it back and it is an SFSU number.  I am not an alum or any way connected to the school but my cell is a 415 number.

They call and don't leave a message.  Now it is at least 3-4 times a week.
Yesterday my wife answered.  They were asking for me.  She asked what it was about, and they hung up on her.

The number keeps calling and calling and calling. I hope the students, faculties, and alumni information are more secure than this...being contacted like this from the school worries me.

They called on behalf of the College I graduated from since I am an alumni member trying to solicite a donation. I have a feeling that the CSU alumni system may be run out of San Fran State to consolidate soliciting expenses.  If you have graduated from a CSU and get a call from this number it is on behalf of the CSU you went to.

Freaking annoying they call me almost every day and no one ever picks up or answers! I sincerely hope its not the school or I will be really upset that they abuse my personal information for soliciting.

Just received a call from this number for the third or fourth time in as many weeks. Does anyone know if SFSU is aware of this? I've never attended, nor been affiliated with, SFSU.

Just got a call on my cell, it is almost 9pm. This is a second day in a row. No message left.
