The number IS a legitimate Craiglist number. I placed an ad yesterday, and they called me from this number to verify I was a legitimate Craigslist poster. I actually wanted a text message, but I forgot to check that radio button, so I got it as a call. Later, I did it again as a text message from the same number.

Those of you who got a call who did not place an ad - it is because someone else did post an ad and put in your number. Either they got the number wrong (yes, it happens), or the poster is trying to scam Craigslist with a bogus number and it happens to be yours.

Screaming "Scam!" every time you don't recognize a number is an exercise in futility (and reveals certain things about you). This site is great for RESEARCH. You might want to try it.

Craigslist has a legit service for new users that is supposed to text a verification code to their phone. Since the code has absolutely no use unless it's matched to a specific account/posting, somebody obviously entered the wrong phone number when creating their account.

I just got a call from this number. I have not put anything on CL and a long time and when I did i did not use this number that they use to call me. I don't know if it is a scam but they did not leave a number for me to call them back.

I just placed an ad on craigslist  and they call you back to give you a code to let ur ad be placed.

3rd time this guy with an indian accent has called.  I can't really understand him.  He says he's calling from Jason (I couldn't understand last name) office to speak with the owner of the company I work for.  We've been trained to screen calls so I said he wasn't available and asked him to leave a message.  Each time he says he will call back.  I tried calling the number back and it's just a busy signal.  I'm sure it's some sort of scam.  

I want to make correction on my post;

I meant to say that my biggest concerning is that if they set up the automatic system, they may have checked my credit score by cell phone verification with validation code.

I received the email response from craigslist job posting exact same as Traci, fill out application to schedule an interview, validation of my cell phone, got the phone call from 415-366-0260, got the validation code and submit to complete the application.

When click the link, it asks for name and email address, personal application was pre-filled, there are total 4 application steps for work preference and skill sets.  On Application step 2 to 4, SECTION TWO: CREDIBILITY, they asked submit the credit score, and there are free trial for applicant.  I selected "I have my credit score ready" but it won't go to next step if not click the their free trial application.  
The website "http://vdfpropmgnt.org" shows there is VDF Property Management, but there is no such information on location.  I went back to craigslist trace down for job ad, I couldn't find it anywhere, so I checked my email traffic, at the bottom, there is the link for the Original craigslist post:

I posted an add also on craigslist and they called using this number (415) 366 0260 and left an access code necessary to post the ad on craigslist. Its seems this if call anything other than a code from craiglist it is a scam.

Got a call from someone that ran a Craigslist add with the phone number 701-347-1610 . After purchasing the box from him I found that it was not his to sell. I called him back at 701-347-1610 and left a message that he returned the call from 415-366-0260 and said that he disclosed a number to call at DirecTV in the add and that he had not scammed me. Appears to be some kind of scam

This phoe #keeps calling in every other day usually around the same time I refuse to answer any calls from number I dont know

Then I text yes then they text me saying. Your request for verification has been accepted. SCAM to get your personal information. Do not enter code or give them any information. This is a total hack trying to get your information. They pretended to be a HR management company for ABL management and you cannot find their website in GOOGLE. They want your credit information. Do not enter any information for them. "Santos" pretended to be interested in interviewing for a director of safety position.

This number came up on my phone at 3:20am this morning-it better not come up again at that hour.

Dipsh*t called me at 2am after posting in the personals in Spring Valley, CA. And after I responded to an ad...let them take my money...my accounts are insured and my bank will cover it.

Oh and the automated voice was Spanish.

This is a widely used scam in many aspects. People posting on this number saying that "it's not a scam!" and "it's a legit CL number!" are the very people trying to hack your number to setup a fake craigslist account. Don't fall for it and it you're getting a call from this number, answer it and hang up, because the suspicious 555-555-5555 or 888-888-8888 number that calls you immediately afterwards is trying to access your voicemail to retrieve the verification number from your inbox. So, DO NOT LET IT GO TO VOICEMAIL and if it does, delete it immediately.

Why did you google this number and enter this site just to say the number is legit? How did you get to this posting? You obviously had an agenda to get here and defend the scam number by saying "it's legit!". Why do you care so much that everyone knows this is a scam? Do you work for Craigslist? Nice try felon, it's no secret that you're posting on this number saying "it's not a scam!!" in an attempt to fool people to believe otherwise. I hope everyone realizes that every single post on here from someone saying "it's not a scam!" is simply coming from the very people that are trying to hack your phone to setup a fake account. Think about it, why would someone randomly google this number and enter this site just to say the number is not a scam? It makes absolutely no sense, why would it be their concern?

Me as well, have ads on Craig's List and Kijiji. These people are such a pain in the a**. What a waste of time and energy ........on our part. Good luck everyone. As soon as you mention cash deal or ask that they call you direct...they won t. The name this guy used was James Scott, with the Marine Corps.

I received a call from this number at 11:44pm with the Craigslist message regarding verification code, just as everyone else is mentioning.  Then, I received immediately after, two phone calls from an Unknown 555-555-5555, then 333-333-3333, then my own cell phone number displayed as calling me, and lastly another 333-333-3333.  Extremely odd and irritating.

The # is a valid CL #. I think  It started when eBay got a stake in CL. They do this to me from time to time. This way you can't have too many accounts., unless you have tons of phone numbers and too, to keep out junk and or spam ads and CL ads that link you to worse .
They give you this 5 digit pin so that you can enter that into the site that you were directed to from your email they sent you to do just this, so you can then finish the post you were trying to post.
Its just lately that they have decided to allow multi postings as there is now an option to click on to allow your phone number for multiple postings. If you get a call from the #, its most likely somebody forgot their number OR, fat fingered when entering the phone number in the box on the CL page for submitting a post.

It is a legitimate phone number for anyone who posts on craigslist.  If you put something on craigslist (anything) you are required to give them your number so they can call and give you a code.  Using your number helps them to track and verify if a ad request is legitimate or not.  I use craigslist all the time and have had to do this so they can make sure I am who I say I am to avoid scammers.  If you did not post anything to craigslist and you got this either someone put their own number in wrong or it is a scam.  They can not post without the verification so best to not respond if you are not the responsible party.  But it is a valid and legitimate number for a valid and legitimate reason.

Hey! If this is what craigslist is doing why go through a whole proffers to get a f*cking code just to post a add or a stupid f*cking post it's just god dawn stupid I'm having trouble and don't know what to do to get my postings posted and get them to not be drafts and not blng even posted
