This call was a sophisticated computerized artificial-intelligence program that combined speech recognition with a healthy variety of possible responses including some catch-alls for when it would be stumped.
Described itself as "I'm a real person but I'm using a computer for quality-control purposes", "I'm a paid fundraiser" and, when asked outright if it's a computer:  "Ha ha ha!  Do I sound that bad?".
I finally convinced it to say it would put me on its Do-Not-Call list.  But since it's the second call I got from its ilk, I somehow doubt its sincerity...

I see a lot of complaints about this number so why is the FCC not doing something about it.  I will not answer a number I do not know.  They did not leave message of course

The DNC registry is antiquated. The only way I know of to deal with them is to not answer numbers I don't recognize. Then look them up to on sites like this to see if they are legit businesses. I use a cell phone only and save them to my contacts as Scamers. I have a list of over 100 unwanted callers.

You are right not to answer; apparently some telemarketers report to others when a caller does answer, and then the calls will increase. You did the right thing! ( :

That number calls and I do not answer, because I looked here first.  Falsely represented as a Police Charity, Huh???  How does one end up on these lists - I give my number to only things I must, usually to verify credit card purchases, and I DO NOT buy from ANYONE who shares my info.  Take the time to read the release info before you buy from internet!  Also NEVER get a Safeway card, or any of those stupid "club" cards, sign up for anything "free" etc.  So someone lied to me on their number sharing policy!  Probably that new car I bought.  Damn car salesmen!!!  What's the world coming to?  Oh, yeah, same ole, same OLD, BS, fraud and corruption.  Well, thank our congress and senate, and all the right wing nuts who don't want any regulations!!!  You people need to vote to get better laws on this type of BS!!!!  But . . .  make sure not to loose any of the businesses and corporations rights, because this type of harassment on my phone is necessary to keep AMERICA strong, right?  I'm sick of big business having more rights than people do.

I just googled the gentleman who associates himself with this phone number and he is listed as a sex offender. So, maybe it is eric thornton the sex offender who is calling, hmmmm.

If this were a legitimate police officer-related fundraiser, they would leave a message.  This number is a hang up and non-responsive to my return calls.  This sort of junk-call casts a negative pall over all legitimate fundraisers.

I received a call from this number as well as from 510-342-3003.  Are these legitimate numbers?  I did not receive a voicemail message so I do not know the name of the company.  The only reason I know that they called is because the numbers are on my Caller ID list.

Calls several times a week.  Leaves no message.  If I feel it is a telemarketer/scam I won't answer.  If they don't leave a message it's pretty certain they are one of the two.   Does the DO NOT CALL agency realize how ineffective this unlisting  is?? Are the violators ever sanctioned?  Sure would like some answers.

He said his name was Eric Thornton and he was calling on behalf of the Fraternal Order of Police. I've heard this scam all too often before so I just hung up on him.

just called 7/26, 11:21 am pst.  Sounds like he is a big white husky guy.  Said he was from the the Fraternal Order of Police.  I just hung up on him.  This same guy has called in the past.  I recognized the voice.

police telemarketer

They called me and told me that they are police officer. They asked me to donation.

Received call from 415-549-0698...we answer they hang up.  We called the number back no one answers.

Did not ID number so did not answer.

Last year I ported my landline to Google Voice and I use an OBi to make and receive calls.  Since then, all but the occasional telemarketers/unknown callers have gone away.  I'm at this forum to look up the number of a "missed caller."  The number is now banned for life.  I think Google Voice has the best solution for getting rid of these calls though it's sort of a hassle to set up.
