They do not "get" your phone number, they just dial all numbers in sequence one right after the other. Forward any spam text messages to 7726. Most carriers use that short number for their customers to report text spam.

My daughter and a friend also mentioned getting the same text message from the same phone number early this morning too.

Forward all such text messages to 7726. Most carriers use this number (SPAM) to report spam text messages. I also would not be surprised if the website you were referred to was loaded with malicious software that would execute just by visiting the page.
