Prank call.

 It's a historical society that is documenting the lives and experiences of Canadian personel in the military during WWII and the Korean War.I don't know if they call themsleves,or have hired a professional fund raiser to call on their behalf.
  I support the cause.But once you give once,it seems like you'll never be left alone again.

I get more than 5 calls a day {as I see it on my display - I have to answering machine..} and when I checked this site out, I see that it is connected to Historica Dominion Institute - and that is one of the charities that we donate to, about 3 times a year - not much, but we do get an Income Tax Receipt.   However, after reading all that was said, and that they do NOT get all the money, but that the company that are making the calls get most of it... I am afraid that I will NO LONGER support them.

Same as the others.  Phone rang.  Nobody there.  Called the number.  Got a voice mail and I think it said Historical Reasearch Centre.   Tried to leave message but not enough time.  Such a nuisance!

I picked up and the guy who was obviously a pro fundraiser had a REALLY long speech and then when I said we would be supporting veterans through our local legion kept talking over me. He was so, so pushy. They would call us twice a day for months. I don't know if I've been taken off of their list because I din't think the guy was listening to me at all.

9:15am got a call from them. No one was there immediately, so hung up. They do not give up as I have had numerous calls from this number. totally annoying.

I keep receiving calls from this number!  When I answer, no one is there.  I just want these people to STOP!!

just got off the phone with their money sucking vampire,  kept them on the line for 45 minutes with some continual stupid questions which they had trouble answering , finished it off  with a "fake" $350  donation using a "new" credit card i just recieved today ,   SUCKERS , then tried to get her to tell me is she liked to take it up the a**, which she replied "OF COURSE".... lol

They called me just now-- Did not leave a message.. I do not answer unknown numbers

I'm getting the same type of call from 2 different numbers? Want them to end soliciting me.

I RECEIVED PHONE CALL FROM THAT NUMBER MANY TIME A DAYS TAKE THAT NUMBER OUT

I have received many, many calls from this number.  I have not picked up the phone.  Since I am
paying to have a call display, every time unrecognizable number appears and they don't leave the
message, I am sure that they want money.  That is the end for me.  If I knew that there was a way
to stop these scams, I would participate, but there is nothing one can do.  Perhaps, one can play
a joke on them.

2nd call in two days...they don't give up!

Annoying or not,the Historica Dominion is a real chartiy.I have donated a couple of times in the past because I like what they are doing.But yes,I also grow weary of telemarketers and people sociliting for donations.I give when I can.That's all.To that end,I bought an answering machine and calll display.I almost never answer if I don't know who is calling.Calls from the USA annoy me the most.I NEVER answer them.

This is a historical society of some sort.  They call constantly and the last one was very rude.

Professional fund raisers representing the Historical Dominion Institute.  After she had gone on and on, I told her that I had this number listed as a professional fund raising firm and related the percentages posted by Holmes Ottawa above.  She claimed that the number was a "central number", ignored the question about professional fund raising, broke into a spiel about supporting veterans' widows and orphans (which is not the purpose of the Memory Project), and lamented that people were spreading such misinformation (take that Holmes Ottawa).

The Historical Dominion Institute and its Memory Project are worthwhile charities, but based on Holmes Ottawa's research, donating money through this professional fund raiser is not an efficacious method of supporting it.

left a message on my machine, said "Oooh... it's your answering machine i think...", was 7:30pm so not so bad. kind of a funny message so was trying to find out who called

Called at 9 pm Alberta time - would be 11pm Toronto time. No legitimate organization would do that. There was a woman on the other end who said "I would like to speak to the person in charge of..." at that point I hung up.

Thank goodness I have call display.  The phone number above calls me everyday and I am able to ignore it.  Very annoying!  I would like to know who they are!

Receive a call every day around 5:30pm. do not answer and no msg left. I am going to give info to the local legion and have them report to the area command. Hopefully they can do something about these people.

That number is being used for a current Historica-Dominion campaign. It is probably legitimate. The institute is a good one, and well worth supporting in my humble opinion. However, this is probably not the way to do it.

100% of your first donation goes to the telemarketers, 50% for the second, then on a sliding scale down.

Across the entire institute their overhead runs about 12-16% which is fine. But this telemarketing campaign, particularly if you give a single large donation is structured in a not-so-great way, IMHO.

Quite persistant called from female voice, asking for $50 for historical reseach for veterans

I looked up these folks in revenue canada and their disclourer statement is quirte interesting.
For last year this is what they reported

(a) Enter the gross revenue collected by the fundraisers on behalf of the charity.    5450    $ 1,699,826
(b) Enter the amounts paid to and/or retained by the fundraisers.    5460    $ 1,505,389
(c) Identify the method of payment to the fundraiser:

So they collect 1.7 million and pay their fundraiser 1.5 million  --> so 200K goes to the charity

Received this call to support something to do with heritage or history, very rude.

What a joke this guy is.  Listened to some of his ramblings, also claiming to be from the Historica Dominion Institute.  Told him I hadn't heard about his organization and I'll check out his website.  If he was genuine, this should have been enough for him.  Instead, he kept pushing for money, asking if I could at least afford a $20 donation.  I said I'd need to look at the website and think about it at which point he immediately hung up.  No "goodbye" or "thank you for your time" or anything like that.  Again, if he was genuine, he would accepted my response and said something reasonable like "please take a look at the site and if it's something you want to support we'd really appreciate it, you'll find a link to donate should you choose to".

I am receiving several calls a day from this number,however they leave no message and when I answer no one answers. I hang up because I am afraid I will be charged for some foreign phone call. I have put my name on the do not call list, but they still call. My huspand has a cell work phone that these people should not have the number for but they somehow do and continue to call him at work. How can we get these calls to stop? They call at all hours even when we have gone to bed as late as 11 pm.

Got a call from the same lady this afternoon. Gave me the whole run-down. I said I never give over the phone because I need to research the cause first (I don't like pressure tactics). She asked if she could mail me a donation package. I said no because I didn't want to receive more paper. I did ask her for the web site address though at which point she said she would mark me down as "not interested".

At one point in the conversation, she referred to veterans as veterinarians. I called her on it.
