Landlord juat came by and got the same type of call that Grammaw got except grandson not granddaughter.  Same exact thing. People, always verify phone numbers.  The internet is amazing at telling you where numbers call from.  Also, just FYI as a law enforcement officer, very few jails or detention centers take wire money transfers to bond someone out.  If they do, it will certainly not go to anywhere accept the jails account or sheriff's office account. No country 6,000 miles away.  Always check numbers and follow up with family if you get calls like this.  Be safe.

These scumbags are now using (647) 860-3721 as a call-back #.  They tried to extort money from my mother but she's too smart for them.  According to a police detective in Connecticut, it's a Nigerian scam.

I unfortunately fell for this scam; however the number being used was 647-861-2082, in Canada and the bail money was sent to Virginia.

My grandparents just recieved a call from the Red Cliff Police Station saying too that i was in jail in canada and that they needed to send $6,000 via western union as well. Thankfully my grandparents called to make sure I was okay because they were very close to going to the bank. It was also a 647 number and I to called back and the so called police officer was a jerk and told me i was harrassing the police station. My grandparents filed a police report but of course they said they are not going to do anything but if more people complain than they will send it to the FBI. Great!

Prank Call
I too received a call from the 647 number advising me that my grand daughter was in jail in Canada and the bail was $6,400.00 although, considering the circumstances, they could approach the judge and get a lower amount set, depending of course, on "what I could afford to send".  Although the thought of a scam was apparent throughout the call, triggered by various comments, your compassion for your grandchild still kicks in.  It didn't take but a couple of calls to determine what was actually happening.  I called the number back to converse with "Officer Ben Walker", who was unavailable, but left a piece of my mind.  Of little consequence, of course, but made me feel better.  There needs to be a sever punishment for these people.  Nothing ever happens to them and they know that.  A friend of mine's aging, and ailing, was bilked out of over $9,000.00 by a magazine salesman.  She'd had to live well into her hundreds to use up her "paid up subscriptions".  They actually traveled to Miami (?) and confronted the salesman yet absolutely nothing could be done.  How about a "severe beat down"?

Prank Call
This number is a clever scam.  This was a call back number given to me by the scam pertetrator.  Their call in number was not shown.  Sept 8, 2010  A" Granddaughter"  called me on a very poor connection saying she was in Canada, in trouble and needed $4,000 bail money sent via Western Union to SYDNEY Austraila - (Simon Yoe, bondman was the name they gave me) "Detective" Daniel Parker from Red Cliff Canada, a 20 year veteran of their Police dept.,(near Canada Niagra Falls) said the money would be refunded after her "Court" date.  HAH!!  Officer Parker gave me this number to call to tell him the money had been sent.
Red Cliff is nowhere near Niagra Falls, is a dot on the map with NO Police Dept and is near Bannf
I noticed that the background noise level increased if I asked pertinent questions. Granddaughter BEGGED me NOT to tell her parents.  When I discoverd granddaughter was NOT missing, I phoned back and was informed by one of the NICE "Officers" that I could put my Big Head up you know where  - and hung up on me.
