I also called bcbs to make sure that an actual chupacabra was not prowling about our health care provider.  The operator, bless her heart, very patiently explained to me that this is a technical error.  I repeated my concern that an actual beast might have infiltrated their premises and was using the phones to intimidate us.  She said again, no, it was a glitch.

We are all safe - for now.

I'm relieved to read that others have gotten the creepy cat call. Sounded like the noise you'd hear in Tarzan's jungle right before crazed natives descended upon your camp in the middle of the night!

I looked up the number and called it back.  After speaking with the operator, she told me there is an automated system they use to call BCBS customers with reminders (ex. time for your mammogram, annual physical, etc.)  It is not working correctly; however, the computer is still continuing to call BCBS customers from the generated list.  It is not a tiger, pervert, etc....just a malfunctioning machine.  She asked that I please pass on the word.  Feel free to call and check it out yourself.

Does everyone here use BCBST? Because I do, and this is a little strange. I am in Memphis as well.

This is the most awesome thing ever.  I just left it on speakerphone so all can hear that an actual tiger or lion or chupacabra has taken the time to call me on my lunch hour.  I'll leave the call active for a while so we can get a nice trace on the number.  Hooray!
Tiger call...grrrrrrr!

I just received this same call. It kinda of spooked me too.  I called the # back. BCBS answered.  The operator said that it was an automated voice messaging/calling system that was malfunctioning.  She was very sorry and said they had received many, many calls already concering the 'Tiger' calls.

I am in Memphis and my wife got the same "tiger" call on our home phone. Very alarming!

Just had the same thing happen. The caller ID said Blue Cross blue shield, but when I answered, only heard a "big cat" growling. Very weird. We are in memphis as well.

Yep, I just received a call from that number, too. Same animal- or drum-like recording. Only answered because we have Blue Cross Blue Shield, which is what caller ID showed. Some folks obviously have too much time. Annoying.

My wife just got two calls from this number, 20 minutes apart, on her cell phone.. we missed the first one; the second one we actually were able to pick up and we heard what sounded like a tiger growling on the other end... it sounded pre-recorded... that is all we heard.  A quick internet search tied that number to an insurance agency in Chattanooga, TN (we are in Memphis)
