You should never put your phone number in an online profile!! Google, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc, etc.. just because your profile is private, except maybe for your friends, doesn't mean the site won't harvest it and sell it.. they do..

READ THE SITES DISCLAIMERS! Most will not do this if you tell them not to, by changing your privacy settings. But you have to initiate this because their default privacy settings spell it out plain and simple.. they have right to sell your personal data to their 3rd party partners. Some go as far as telling you they are going to access your personal address book and send emails or make phone calls to the people you have listed in there.. This is like using a changing room at a department store with a sign on the door that reads "we are going to watch you undress and may video tape you". Don't believe me... read the privacy terms on any Android or iPhone app that accesses Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, Google+, MSN or any social and/or gaming site.. they all say this one way or another.. they are going to rape you, but they are kind enough to let you know in advance.. it hurts at first and you feel violated, but then you get used to it.. sad but true.. Bah, Sheep, Bah...

True.. no-call lists are a joke, unlisted numbers are ineffective when a war-dialer is in use and answering the phone only verifies that your number belongs to a live body.. which goes on another list that is sold to any scumbag telemarketer or scam artist that shells out money for it.

There is also a list of 'hostile" phone numbers (black list), for lack of a better term, that these losers stay away from. Numbers belonging to the average Joe that harass & abuse the calling party, lead them on and generally waste the telemarketers time. It's not hard a hard list to join. If you can't handle the dead end promises of the FCC, your phone provider's blocking tools or sites like this one (that really don't do anything more than provide a place to vent), then pick up the phone.. Play with the a***ole pitching their wares.. lead them on, ask questions about the product like you just crawled out from under a rock. Play dumb, like you don't understand why round tires are better than square tires. Make them explain it over and over again. Keep it going for as long as you can.. Then give in and say you'll buy it. just as you are about to close the deal, back out and say you have don't have a credit card or that the prison you are in doesn't allow package deliveries. Make them feel like you wasted their time, but not on purpose. It works!

If not..go to your sporting goods store or boat shop, purchase one of those ear-shattering air-horns and give the caller a reason to never call back. What can they do about it? Call the Police? Can't prove nothing, even if it's recorded. Could have been lightning striking the network or any number of things. Godspeed-->

Yet another weasel spammer/scammer representing themselves (falsely) as Google. Recording says "Our records indicate your Google listing has not been verified. Press 1 to verify your company listing on Google." When you press 1 you get some schmuck selling "get top listing on Google, Bing, and other search engines". This is a despicable practice. I will not do business with someone that begins the relationship with a lie.

This company is "Brand Rep".  You can talk to a live person, who was very nice to me, at 800-405-7119.  She said she would take us off the call list - we will see.

I asked her how she got my number and she said they purchased business numbers from Google.  NICE, GOOGLE, THANKS~!

I agree with the first post & my land-line carrier gives me to block a call after I know the telephone number BUT I got a call from the 425-320-5037 on my cell phone...not much I can do there.  I did work as a telemarketer for a University Alumni association... (when I was in college at that Uni)... anyway,  if someone was rude or hung up, all of us put them on automatic call back...of course you don't get the same person, so I would make a call, not knowing they had been called before and I would get screamed at - still, automatic call back.  If you can't block the call, say you used to be a telemarketer and you know how rude people can be but you just aren't interested...you would be surprised that a bit of empathy (for the job) and kindness can get you on a no-call for that company.  That's been my experience.

I've got calls from this number before - they try to pass themselves off as being affiliated with Google. I contacted Google, and they said they have "absolutely no affiliation with" whoever the people are behind these calls...

This is just what it looks like it is - some kind of scam being run by some sleazy scum...

Whenever I see this number on my Caller ID, I simply don't answer...

Anybody that wants to talk to me, or that I want to talk to, I know their numbers...

One doesn't need these phones being hawked as referenced above - does 1800Notes now allow people to market these phones using this website for free advertising?

Caller ID is just as effective...

I agree with all you wrote re blocking calls from anonymous, private calls etc. I have such a phone myself, and caller id makes blocking private calls even easier by using anonymous call rejection on the line. However, the issue is not that simple. The spam calls, such as the one made to me today by 425 320 5037, cannot be blocked until AFTER they have made the first unwanted call. Only then can I block the number. And, as you pointed out, many of the larger companies use multiple numbers.

Your suggestion is very helpful; I have also used this procedure, but it offers only limited help, for if the number is displayed initially, the phone does not know to block the offending caller.

Just wanted to clarify for newbies. In my opinion, the phone blocking is well worth it. I know that major phone companies, such as Verizon etc, offer the ability to block any call. Here we dial *60 immediately after the unwanted caller to block them from calling again.

Received a call on my business line at 9:31am, 6/15.  Pressed the "block" button on my Uniden phone - no more problems.  The caller is now blocked and can never get through again.
This caller also uses---
425 320-5027  That number is also blocked.

PLEASE READ BELOW...
FACT 1 - the DNC list CLEARLY does not work!  Everyone knows this...or you should know this by now!
FACT 2 - filing a complaint with the FCC does not work!  A total and complete waste of time.  Been there.  Done that.
FACT 3 - having an unlisted phone will not help you.
FACT 4 - asking/begging telemarketers to take you off their call list ? you?ll get laughed at!
FACT 5 - no "class action" law suits are being filed and certainly, none are being LITIGATED.
FACT 6 ? contacting the BBB ? LAUGHABLE!!!  The BBB and the National Chamber of Commerce are corrupt organizations that sell their ratings to the highest bidder.  You can forget them.
STOP BEING FRUSTRATED OVER TELEMARKETER CALLS!  STOP BEING A VICTIM!!!  PLEASE DO THIS!     PURCHASE A CALL BLOCKING TELEPHONE!!!
Call blocking phones are very inexpensive $40-$60 and they come with, at least, one wireless handset.  Very, very convenient.
STOP BEING ANNOYED.
BUY A CALL BLOCKING PHONE!
Uniden and Panasonic make CALL BLOCKING telephones.  They?re cheap - $40-$60 and they usually come with a 2nd wireless handset.  COSTCO & AMAZON BOTH SELL THEM.
They work beautifully!  These phones block ?PRIVATE,? ?OUT OF AREA? and "UNKNOWN" calls!!!
I have had the same home number and the same business phone number for over 15 years and my home and my business lines (both published) seem to be on every call list imaginable.  I bought a Panasonic call blocking phone for my home and I bought a Uniden call blocking telephone for my business.
NO MORE PROBLEMS WITH TELEMARKETERS.  We can stop these telemarketers IF we all buy a call blocking phone!
