They left me the same threatening messages, claiming to serve me at my job if they cannot get a hold of me. When I did call they were looking for my brother, who has since called them back. He said they were fraudulently trying to get him to pay over the phone, $2,000, and did not want to provide him with any invoices or statements showing the amount he owed. I called back so I can get their address and they refused to provide me with the information and hung up on me. I just called the sherriff and they said to report them with the BBB.

I rec'd a call from a family member in another state that a Mr. Canvis had left a msg. with the family members landlord to get in touch with me  "very Important" that I call 1-571-335-0884....This # turned out to be SCG and Assoc.  with all the same threats that have been posted previously.....civil suit, wage garnishment etc......I have allegedly accrued a debt of over $6000 plus possible atty fees because I have been charged 16.99% interest since 2006!!!!!!  So consumer beware of yet another # used by these people as well as questionable methods which I believe are not in line with with the FDCA....I have until 4:00 tomorrow to be given a reduced pymt plan or I will be "SERVED" per Atty Ron Goldman....I am frightened and it concerns me that people who do not know me, who live in another state have been involved.....

I got 2 similar phone messages THREATENING TO SERVE A PROCESS but two weeks have gone by and no one showed up with  a service. My ex wife from 14 years ago was also mentioned. She claimes to have called them and believes this was a scam as we were listed as refrences 10 years ago.I'd like to see the obligatory paperwork.

I received a phone call from DONNA SOMMERS!!! No s***!! AND Donna has apparently quit her career as a singer and you know DEATH to call me about a debt that I owe OH YEAH and she is an attorney on my behalf??. Here is the thing.. She didn't call me.. she called my neighbor to appear as a character witness on my behalf for pending litigation.. (this being the random neighbor I have never met!) Well when I called Ms. Sommers (star struck of course) she stated that I owed a debt from over 6 years ago for an amount of $1387 and if I did not pay this debt with in 15 days then I would be served.... FUNNY, my roommate got notification in the mail seriously 5 min prior that the IRS is sending her the backed taxes she is owed of $1385????? now, when my girlfriend called bull s*** on the whole deal I decided to call her back after doing my research. I went to www.quizzle.com and got a free copy of my credit report. NOTHING on my credit report shows that amount.. ANYWHERE.. however, truly believing I may owe the amount we had agreed on $400 by the 30th.. So, I called back to let her know I had spoken to "my lawyer". I could not find the debt on my credit report that I am looking at currently or any information that any old accounts were owned by a SCG and as such, I would need a letter in writing on letter head with their office credentials as well as the original debt collectors information which states the account number of the original debt. A copy of the settlement agreement with the agreed $400 one time payment, a number to call with the payment. As I would NOT be releasing my debit card number over the phone with out this information..Also I need a receipt within 7 days of payment as I am legally entitled to. She quickly cut me off and told me that I needed to speak to the legal department PS, I thought she was an attorney???. HOLD FOR 6min... (apparently no legal department) She returns to the phone and states that she can not speak to me because she can hear my girlfriend in the background asking me to ask certain questions and when I explained to her that I apparently owed a lot of money and if I wanted to get advice from my lawyer or anyone else, I would and that the things I was asking for is my right under the fair credit act.. I was hung up on.... Donna Sommers making debt collection calls from the grave and STILL A DIVA.... will let you know if I get served :/

It's also funny that they were leaving the same type of message 2 months ago and I only had 4 hours to respond or I would be served.....welll.....I'm waiting...

The bad thing is I don't think we know who they really are. Someone posted earlier that SCG is a Canadian Collections agency and that it wouldn't be them. I think they purposely don't reveal who they truly are so you can't file a real complaint against them.

lrt...all debt collections has to follow the fdcpa laws and they must be licensed in your state to collect money

Even if the third party collector is acting as inhouse collections, they are still considered a "debt collector" per FDCPA

I got these calls and refereed to your Web site, as helpful as it is I told them go ahead do what you have to do I now have a civil judgment filled against me, through the city of murrieta even though I never recurved documents I see that has happened to someone else on here to. I don't understand how this happened I never even had to appear but the city said there's no way to resend the garnishment.

This place may or may not fall under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act depending on if they are an inhouse collection company.  They threatened to have process to serve on my husband and his mother, not even realizing they are mother and son.  My husband is not linked to his mom financially in any way.  They are deceptive and I have filed a complaint with the Colorado Collection Agency Board.

They also got creative and made a case number for you to refer to with 3 digits and the first three letters of the first name.

Update from my previous post. They called me through a new number now. Please block this number from Kentucky. (502) 713-1461.  They left a message saying " Hi <insert name here>, I am Ms. < I don't care>. We have been forwarded your case for final review and are in the process of continuing. If you have been served, please disregard this call. If you have not, Please ask your attorney to call 425-998-6076 to discuss the matter. Follow the legal documentation and show up to all appearances. Thank you. "

I got the same call twice, from two different numbers: 772-237-6551 and 713-931-4831. Both callers said basically the same thing: i had a pending suit against me and to call them back at 425-998-6076. I checked my credit report this morning just to be sure, i have no collections. i never have had any either. I assume this is a scam.

Don't let them get away with suing you without them proving you owe them.  They can sue you without any proof and if you ignore it they can get a judgement.  If it isn't your debt, if it is timebarred, a debt you already paid, etc. fight it.

SHILL ALERT- Scare tactics from the boiler-room boys. Did anyone ask for proof of debt? By law, if you ask, they have to provide the information. Notice how the scammers are evolving (sorry to primative life forms). It used to be "You'll be arrested". Now it's "You're being sued". ALWAYS ask for proof in writing. NO email & NO verbal.

Ok, I am always reading about the scams that are taking place through collection companies pretending to be a law firm and in actuality they have no connection to any attorney's. So my girlfriend get's a call that sounded oh so familiar to me from a company called SCG. I told her that they are fakes and not to worry about it, after she took my advice she hung up in there face and received no more calls. About a month later she was served some court documentation, she is now being sued, she is soooo pissed at me right now. So I guess i am writing this for anyone who thinks these guys are the usual collectors who claim to be connected to an attorney, or an attorney themselves, No not these guys, they are really suing people.

The call came from Mr. Canvis on (815) 704-3703.  When attempts were made to call this number, a recording came on and stated that the Majic Jack customer is unavailable to take my call.  Mr. Canvis left the same type of message and phone number (425) 998-6076 regarding serving some legal documents between 9 am and 4 pm on 13 Sep 2013.

Got a call from them through a private number 3 times and told them to call within 15 minutes because its urgent. If someone isn't dying or in the hospital, why do I need to call in 15 minutes or less?

They called me through a private number first then gave me this number 425-998-6076 to call. Then they called me through another number in Houston texas, 713-931-4831.

They said they had some legal documents and threatening to sue if no one calls back but would not state what it is.

If you want to sue someone, don't do it over the phone. It is illegal to do that. Do it the old fashion way and serve it! and don't be calling me through a private number, I am not going to answer it obviously.

This is the information I was looking for. Thanks everyone. I figured it's a collection agency trying to scare into paying...but the same for me. I don't have any litigation pending, and whatever it is would have to be old. They made the same claims that an officer would be sent to serve papers, blah, blah..I've never heard of these people or have any idea what debt I supposedly owe.

Nice to know I'm not alone. I'm just going to block and go on with my life
