Called at 5:23 p.m.  Let answering machine pick up call.  They hung up.

Let the machine get it, it sounded noisy in the background, no one left a message.

The vast majority of money given to these telephone scammers do NOT go to the organization they claim.    Just enough to keep them on the legal side of the do not call list.  Do NOT give them money.  If you care about donating to someone who will help xxx, use Charity Navigator or the equivalent to find a charity that gives most of your money to the charity to do its work, not to fundraise.

I received several calls from this number, it is for donations for the police.  I told them that my family doesn't support police officers as we are a major crime family in VA.  It was a joke, but they did stop calling.  Now I'm wondering who's following me around all the time...lol...also a joke.

It is a "phone bank" type number used by many different fundraisers....  AmVets was the one called me.  Like another post says, they will verify nothing but your name, address and amount you want to donate.  They will then mail you the packet of information to include return envelope, and also information on how to check them out... they are legit.

Several calls a day:ANNOYING, as I have already told them to stop.

Get same calls as the others listed here. Gave once last year to one Virginia police organization and then a month later I get a call from another police related organization. They gave me sob story about how this later organization helped the surviving families. I'm military and can relate where they come from but constant calls and name changing. I agree, if they want donation they should mail request. Heck, I get a dozen VA loan refinance requests each week, why not help the police family. It's as if I made the call the chump club. Now they won't stop. They never leave a message just calls on top of calls...sometimes twice a day. It's driving me crazy...more like looney tunes. Maybe I should answer next time and let them know how I feel. Maybe not as they are the police and big brother is watching. I'll just let them continue to bug me while I eat, while I sleep, while I......

They call every day, sometimes twice.  I do not answer, but this is getting quite annoying.  I'm on the no-call list, but I get charity calls every day from several different organizations.  Wish it would stop.

Yes, likely a police or other VA organization.  Only donate once they send something to you through the mail, NOT over the phone.  These people DO NOT leave messages.  I typically donate to some of them, so you will "once you donate' (which you should), start to receive more.  And 'yes' they could be rather relendless; be assertive and 'tell them' to stop, that particular agency will.
