Called me this morning. Said my computer had been sending error messages to Microsoft. Which it has lately. He knew my computer number. When I told him I was leary that this was a scam, he hung up. But, how did he know I had been sending error messages to Microsoft, and how did he know my computer number?  Sounded like he was from Pakistan. First guy I talked to put me thru to master technican.

Received a "cold" SCAM call at around 12:30 pm EST from a male with a heavy Asian Indian accent claiming illegal information and viruses had been downloaded to my computer via my Windows operating system everytime I opened any program that utilized Internet Explorer. All the time that this guy was talking, I could hear many other voices in the background using some of the same terms that this gut was using. I figured that the call was part of a boiler-room offshore operation to get remote access to my PC to plant a robot reporter program, or to obtain personal financial info like a credit card number. I told the guy that I was a Micosoft Certified Tech myself and that I didn't have any malicious files as he claimed. He just ignored my comment and kept right on with his "hard sell" talking as if he hadn't heard what I had just told him. When I told him that I wasn't interested in any free PC program services that I hadn't requested, especially from someone that Microsoft said was not a valid agent of theirs. He forwarded me to his supervisor.

Within 30 seconds a different Asan Indian male came on the line and told me that if I didn't use their services that my PC would crash. I told him that I had 3 others so I really didn't care. I said that I'd just take the one that crashed to Staples Technical Support and that they'd fix the problems. The 2nd guy was very, very pushy about me using their services. He said that he'd check my firewall and that if it was working okay, then there'd be no charge for his services. He further stated that if he found a problem with my firewall that he'd have to charge me $29.95 for the analysis (which he said would be good for one year), or $39.95 for an up-to 3-year analysis. I told him that not only was I using the Windows Defender and Firewall, but also the firewall from my Kaspersky Pure program. I further told him that I used RegCure Pro and Paretologic Privacy Controls to stop any possible infiltration that he was saying would happen. When he continued with his sales pitch, I yelled into the phone - "HEY"! When he shut up and said what, I told him that I currently held 5 Microsoft Certifications: One in mainframe programming, one in server programming, one in micro programming, one in PC technical trouble-shooting and one in Microsoft Windows trouble-shooting. I told him that I was fully capable of fixing any problems on any of my PC's. At that point he just said "bye, bye" and hung up.

Five minutes later I received a call from yet another extremely irate sounding Asian Indian male telling me that I was making a very big mistake. I told this guy the same as the previous guy about my computer credentials, and that I just wasn't going to buy whatever it was he was selling. Before I could finish saying "was selling", the line went dead.

This is some sort of scam to get personal information.  They kept claiming illegal information had been downloaded to my computer via my Windows operating system.  Hung up when I said I don't use Windows.. ha!
