This company keeps calling and leaving a message for the previous owner of my cell phone number.  I have had this number for five weeks now.  I have spoken to people at the company twice and told them he no longer has this number.  They say that a local merchant is suing him over a returned item (it sounds like they are saying milk).

Leaves a bogus message...and when you call them up they tell you even more BS about filing a lawsuit against you.
I mentioned to the agent that they have to first show the debt is valid.. wait for my reply...then come to CA to file..which is $350.00..for just a $400.00 ohone bill.

I got same message today saying I have a unpaid check and they have my drivers liecense number and to call this number or they will file on me at my address. They show up here they will not leave. It's Scam.

They may say to call 469-708-0254, but the caller ID says the call came from Portfolio Associates, a notoriously persistent collection agency. If you have any debts, whether old or new, know that they are just trying to conceal their identity. If you don't have any defaulted debts, they may have called the wrong number or are trying to reach the person who had your number before you or possibly a relative or other contact. SCAM SCAM SCAM!! Same as other comments left.  262 806 4406 leaves message regarding a claim against you by a merchant regarding a returned note and it is related to ur drivers license number, directs you to call 469-708-0254 (if u do, BLOCK UR NUMBER, u will get a message stating they wont accept blocked calls. Oh well, even a bill collector will answer a blocked call because they want to work with you.  These scammers just want to rip off the right person who will fall into their trap. The more they talk legal you will see the less they know.  A friend who owns a collection company says to document every time they call and the conversation if you have one, if it continues the original collector whom you have paid any debt off with will accompany you to court if it gets that far.  Especially if your debt is more than 6 years old and even if it is not paid but written off.  These jerks DO NOT want to spend ANY money, they want your money. This is a scam.  See comments above. Don't be anybody's fool, do your homework!  Bill collectors must send a WRITTEN notice via mail first and even then you have 30 days to respond.

Just got a call from a very rude woman from Carrolton, Texas, who tried yelling over my voice just to say hello... so my husband called Carrolton PD and they referred him to the State Attorney General's office in Dallas for assistance.

Just received a call for a Peterson person on my new number and the recorded message said a "judgment" was being filed against that person and that they had their driver's license with their address on it! Also, they needed to call 469-708-0254 to resolve this issue or further action would be taken. I immediately checked google before I called them back, because something didn't sit right with me..why call from a Southeastern South Carolina number and give me a 469 number to call to resolve the issue? Thank God I did check google before calling them back!!

Yep, on my cell phone received a message stating that I should call 469-708-0254 because a merchant has a "returned note" and that it was linked to my drivers license etc. Same story...no returned checks etc so I am ignoring it. Scammers!!

I received the same message.  My phone listed the number as 440-363-7037, which is unlisted.  I learned one thing with collectors and scams, the more they try and sound like they know what the are doing or talk like they are from a law office, the dumber they sound.

Wife was called and told that she had a returned check from 859-721-0241 which is a Lexington KY number.  She was told to call 469-708-0254.  I look all these numbers up before calling back and saw the above statements.  I am telling her to ignore these calls because I am sure we don't have any returned checks.

Just rechecked this and its a Dallas,TX location, its a Cell phone too.

30JAN14 just got the nearly exact message on my home phone as Chris 11JAN2014 above: from 469-708-0254. Dont have anyone I owe to. Sounds scammy to me also will continue Googling this to find out more. am from NC.

I received a phone call from (804-302-0966) and it left me a voicemail (automated message) saying a company filed a "note" against me and it's also linked to my driver licence. What's strange is in the voicemail it told me to call 469-708-0254. When I called I asked for the guys name who I was speaking to because I was going to call my attorney general. He says to me "good luck with that" and hangs up on me. Never ever ever give out your personal info over the phone reguardless. This guy also wanted my social security number so "look up my info" that's a BLACK FLAG people. Please me careful.
