I rec'd a call from an agent from the department of justice about a claim that is waiting for me to pick up. the agents name was Christopher Adams and the number he gave was 202 407 7250 (I think as his accent was very thick-sounded hispanic.) Anyway when I called the number it went no where. So obviously, a scam...interestingly though he said he was investigating the Clearing House scam...so a little bit of a change in his tactic. Sadly, I hope no one falls for it.

I received a call from a man with thick spanish accent claiming to be a "Colin Hector" from the DOJ and for me to call back. My husband called and the man claimed I had won $875k in a sweepstakes and that to get the money I had to pay $4k which was "refundable". My husband told him that wasn't going to happen and to not call us again, we weren't interested. The number he used was 202-609-7034.

I received a call from 202-609-7034 and looked at their location as being near the capital in Washington DC.  I asked to speak to his supervisor and told them that its a scam.  He said that scams come from Jamaica and I said you have an accent.  He said he has a cold.  I said his partner has an accent also.  He said I am an American, born in Washington DC.  They try to claim that FEDEX, UPS or USPS wont deliver a check for such a large amount of money if they cant verify that someone is home.  I told him, its just a piece of paper.  The bank has to verify who you are.  Send it regular mail.  The USPS handles lots of checks and money.  He said, "who is going to pay to deliver it".  I said, if the sweepstakes is giving me $875,000, they can afford $10 to send me a check by USPS registered mail, signature confirmation.  If I am not there, they will lock it back up in their safe, leave me a notice, and I will go and show ID and pick it up.  He said the sweepstakes is not interested in having me pick up the check...they don't care.  They make one attempt.  I said just mail it and I will take my chances that it will arrive.  He said fine, I will call and it will be going out tomorrow Certified, return receipt.  I never signed up for the Sweepstakes Clearing House.  Fraud and Scam a few miles from the Capital in Washington DC.

I received a call from Colin Hector who said he was from Dept of Justice, 202-609-7034 saying I had won $850,000 as second place prize from Sweepstakes Clearing House, Port Washington, NY and the check was being held by US Customs, Kennedy Airport, NY (Mr Norman Armstrong) 718-690-9758 for the last 15 days because I hadn't responded to my letter of notification. They even gave me a contest confirmation number.  I called, Mr Armstrong. He said it was BoA cashiers check for $875,000 and I must wire Mrs Selene Leal Serrano, 1095 Main Ave, San Jose, Coasta Rica $1125 to cover insurance and shipping for FED EX to carry the check from NY to my home address in Calif.  I consider this a scam because I have never entered a sweepstake, I had never received a notification letter and the "US Customs" guy first told me I needed to send $1639 for shipping and insurance.  Furthermore I checked the 718 number and it was located in the middle of the Bronx.  Also their English was poor and at times the phone clicked off making me think I had lost connection.

Received a phone call from this number by a person claiming to be James Hicks with Sweepstakes Clearing House in Port Washington, NY. They claim I have won money(over 1 million dollars) from an overseas sweepstakes that I entered. The taxes have been taken out and the balance(nearly $750,000) is being held at JFK Airport. All that I need to do to claim this money is send a check to Luiz Ortiz in Manteca, CA for $2000 to cover shipping/handling etc. They say he is a former FBI Agent working with them now. This is a total scam preying on the seniors, the needy, the gullible. Find these criminals and prosecute them to the fullest degree allowed by law.

I also received the same information today. The told me I won 750,000 which the taxes would not be taken from. They had my name and address and informed me of two number to call, one for sweepstakes clearinghouse (the alleged rival of Publisher Clearinghouse) and one for JFK where my package "will be" that has the check with in it. I let him talk but I knew it was a scam from the jump, I had never signed up for Sweepstakes Clearinghouse in February I didn't even know it existed.
