Keep getting this caller id. Never have talked to a person. Beeps or hangups and never a message on my answering machine. When I do answer it, they hang up.
Monika 2011-06-06 20:51:41 Unknown
Yes! Very disturbing! Guy said he was from California Police Youth Charities.....it is my understanding that police do not call peolple for charity $$$$$.
Sonia 2011-06-06 20:51:41 Unknown
nobody says anything when I say 'hello'. why are they calling? what are they able to achieve by calling me and having me pick up the phone?

Second comment:
Wait a minute, I just thought about something. What if it's this company on this site "reverse phone number" who want to get some customer. They just have to do this trick and people will sign up for 40$ to get this information.
That's totaly possible.
Celine 2011-06-06 20:51:41 Unknown
I just had a call from this number. I call back right away...no answer.
What's up with them. Are they checking if we're home or something?
PM3 2011-06-06 20:51:41 Unknown
The caller left no message. I did not recognize the ID of "CPYC", so I screened the call. The call was received at 15:50 on 08 January 2008.

Got a call from 562-803-3059 at 11:58 p.m. on 12/01/07! Imagine the prick who wants to disturb people at 2 minutes before midnight! Woke us up from a sound sleep! What a-holes! I think CPYC is a scamming group. If they were a "real" charity, they would have more than one phone number, usually rotary numbers in series, and their caller ID of "CPYC" is obviously cryptic just to confuse people and not give info to the folks they scam. There is no agency called "California Police," except for a very small unit that protects the governor, and even they have a slightly different name. If the phone companies cared enough, they could fix the caller i.d. system so that people couldn't alter the i.d. that shows.

I got a call just now (Dec 14 1239) from this # also. After I said my company name and my name, the caller said, "who is this?". I repeated my intro and he hung up.

Unfortunately, charities are exempt from the Do Not Call list. They are allowed to call you to raise money as they are non-profit organizations.

Actually Scott, you are very wrong on several counts. First, we are an extremely legitimate organization who is run by retired police and are affiliated with many law enforcement officers and agencies. CPYC is about cops helping kids. We do not degrade police in any way. In fact, we provide scholarships for cops kids and assist with in the line of duty death family support. We are mostly cops either active or retired. You are also wrong about PAL. California PAL has raised the vast majority of it's funds for the past 15 years through telemarketing. These funds have provided resources to over 100 local PALS state-wide. You are correct that PAL is a great organization and as a former Board member of California PAL I support many local PALs. We were recently named Charity of the Year for 2007 by OXNARD PAL. I understand the calls are annoying at times. We certianly do not want to call people who do not want to be called, it serves no purpose. You can go to the website at www.calpyc.com to get contact info to be removed from the list. You should be careful using words like SCAM when you are frustrated. There are other ways to handle your issue with us rather than juvenile name calling.

Called on Presidents day, told them to remove me and not interested as I am on the DNC. They got frustrated and yelled. I hung up.

Back in October Sparky posted the following with the web site. That is for PAL, which is a legitamate police program that DOES NOT call and ask for donations. Don't take it out on them please, they are not part of this CPYC group (which is probably a scam and not related to the polcie at all). They say they are in the hopes of 1) getting money and 2) if they don't, degrading the police. If you would like to donate to PAL, contact your local law enforcement agency, and don't give to these scammers.
2 calls in 2 days...2pm and 6pm. Didn't answer. Googled CPYC and 562 803 3059 and got this website...thanks for the ID on CPYC!! "Charity Navigator" rates a related charity badly...they spent $3 million to raise $1 million!! They get zero stars.

you know. charities are excluded from the do-not-call-list. best bet, everyone go to the donotcalllist and tell your govt that you do not even want CHARITIES to call you. i dont.

I found this number in my caller ID numbers. They didn't leave a message. I only found the number once but was curious as to what CPYC was so I checked here -- what a great way to find out about numbers you don't want to answer! Thanks to you all for reporting this number!

They call between 8:45 & 9:00 p.m. once a week. I only accept family & friend's calls in the evening. They should GO HOME and let people have a little time in the evening of peace and quiet!
Mark 2007-12-01 03:29:19 Unknown
I just got a call from them too. But they didn't leave a message.
Kathy 2007-11-29 04:08:22 Unknown
CPYC has been calling, no message. Today I finally answered the phone and get a beep, then nothing. I too am on a DNC list. Why do these people keep calling, and thanks for the heads up about the PD not calling for donations.
Gina 2007-11-28 03:13:50 Unknown
Here is the truth on these calls.
IT IS A SCAM. THE POLICE CAN NOT
AND DO NOT DO CALLS LIKE THIS.
MY HUSBAND IS A POLICE MAN!
DO NOT FALL FOR THIS. IT IS ILLEGAL.
