Phone Scam: ATM/Debit Card Information -- FRAUD ALERT!

If you receive a call that states your Chase and/or Debit card has been compromised and that you need to call a number to verify information; DO NOT CALL! This is fraudulent, and not a Chase phone number. They are attempting to get your card information from you.

If you do receive a call about any of your credit union accounts, call us at a phone number you know is Chase or stop in. If your card is actually ever compromised, we block it immediately and inform you. We will not need to verify any of your card information, we already have it.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to give us a call.

While I agree with you that this phone number is very likely associated with a scam, I'd like to know where the shill postings are that you mention.  Where are the "large number of phony posts claiming the call is real" on this thread?  I am sure there are such shill posts on other threads that you mention, but why are you posting these comments here?

Here is the text of my message to the Chase Security Center regarding a call which I received from this number:

-------------------------------------

Dear Chase Security Center,

At 2:43 PM EDT this afternoon (Sunday, May 12, 2013), I received a call on my cell phone from telephone number (563) 242-0717. The computer generated voice said that the call was from Chase Card Services and stated that my Chase MasterCard had been deactivated due to fraudulent use and I needed to follow the instructions on the recording to re-activate my card. I did not enter any of the information requested, and I promptly hung up.

Although I am a Chase Checking, Savings, and Credit Card customer, I knew that this call was fraudulent because A.) I do not have a Chase MasterCard, and B.) Chase (or any other bank or credit card issuer) would never contact a customer in this manner.

I am reporting this incident to you in the hope that you will investigate and determine the source of this fraud.

Part of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions.  Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.  There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

I have received 3 phone calls in one day from this number. I am pretty upset over this...The woman's voice wants me to activate my credit card ( Visa ). She claims there is fraud going on and my card was hit by someone. She gives about 6 numbers on a Visa Card and you are suppose to click 1 to activate it again. THIS IS SCAM !!!! There is no way to stop this as it is a recording. Very annoying....
