Received a phone message from someone who identified himself as Ryan Gibson (phone number 567-244-4358) from the "department of legal affairs". No company or affiliation was mentioned. He said "legal enforcement" was being put on my name and that I should call them back or better yet have my attorney call them back. He had a thick Indian accent and was hard to understand. I've learned through other reports on the internet that this is a scam to get people to panic and pay these guys money over the phone in order to stop their manufactured threat. It usually pertains to some sort of warrant or legal action against you or your spouse. This guy Ryan Williams and his a**-ociates Mark Gibson and David Williams have been mentioned in other online complains as well. This is a scam. Do not fall for it. "A fool and his money are soon parted."

It's a scam call - more info here:

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail tophishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

Same thing, got a call from some  guy from India  telling me to call or have my atty  call today!! I called back  this number , they answered it dept of treasury. Gave them my name and same guy that called answered He said I was in trouble and owe bunch of money to the irs. So I asked why would dept of treasury call me to collect it? That's where they make money, not collect for  irs. The guy started to get mad immediately and told me to call back and ask for Kevin Peterson.  He got very upset and said I'm in big trouble and call back same number and ask for this mr p. I said why are you so upset sir? I asked him again when did dept of treasury become  a bill collector for irs?.i then told him I was just there last week and they didn't say anything to me about owing money to them , in fact they owe me, that's why I was at local office here in my state . He then yelled I better call or I'd be arrested today and hung up on me when I started to laugh as I knew this was a scam by now. Never called  back to talk to mr p. I called my states atty and made complaint.  What dumb f---s they are !  IRS collects money owed to them themselves. You don't get a call from them or anyone else for them . You get letters and if you don't pay they show up at your door or certified letters sent to you. Then if you don't pay I think you go to court

I got a call from Ryan Gibson from Dept. of Treasury re: a legal matter & for me to call back.  I called back & spoke to Kevin Peterson.  Mr. P told me I owe income taxes for a past year & if I rec'd mailed notifications & I said no.  I asked for the address they sent the notices to & was told they cannot give me this info.  I asked for my SSN to make sure that they had the right person.  They said the can't give me that either.  I asked for my DOB & shocker..........  they couldn't give me that either.  Stated I could get an atty however, no matter how good the atty. is, I will still go to jail as there is no legal action I can take & there has already been a warrant issued.  I asked who I can contact re: the validity of the warrant.  Mr. P kept going back to my owing money.  I said I don't care that I owe the money I want to take of the warrant.  Mr. P hung up on me.  Very professional.  Got a 2nd call from Ryan Gibson stating I have 1 hour to call back or else they will take it as I'm not cooperating.  I call back & get Mark Gibson.  He eventually hangs up on me again.

Call from Ryan Gibson from "Department of Illegal Affairs" - calling to tell me that there is an "Enforcement Action against me and that I will be fined lots of money and that it will cost a lot of trouble". He also tells me that I need to "call him back within 24 hours or something bad like the sheriff coming will happen" and also that my "attorney can call him and talk to him if I do not have the time." He left also said that this was considered a "legal verbal notification of an illegal matter being charged to me" and wanted to make sure I understood that this was a "legal verbal notification of an illegal action being put on me". And I should call be immediately and within 24 hours. Scam scam scam
