Debt Collector
This has been happening all day here at our company, only this Indian named Robert is calling for an employee that was fired almost a year ago.  He keeps saying that we are lying to him and that he needs that persons cell number. WHen we tell him we do not have any contact info for him he tells us that he will just keep calling all day and night every day.  We p****off Robert by laughing at him but the next time he calls I am just giving him our local PD phone number because it is getting old...

I just had someone call me, he said his name was DAVID ZAIUS from DFF. First he called and threatend my 12 year old daughter then when he finaly got ahold of me he told me I was going to federal prison. He told me that there was some money deposited into my account from some cash advance places but when they went to take the money back out the money wasn't there, but I never had any money deposited into my account. The guy was a fourign he didn't speak very good english and the number that came up on the caller ID, I looked it up online and it came from a land line in boston, the caller ID says that the name of the place is total communications and the number is617-531-9139 and 617-531-9136. I hope someone can help me or give me some pointers on what to do they are saying that I owe them $800.

Debt Collector
OK... So Im getting the same guy, caller ID is saying unknown number. He is giving me the name MICHAEL CHAVEZ with DFF LEGAL DEPARTMENT, with this phone number: 610-200-8026. I KNOW HOW THIS HAPPENED! About a month ago, I googled "payday loans"... I looked at several different companies/websites. I even went as far on one website (I have NO idea which one) to fill out a little info. But I stopped, never completed the application and closed my browser. All of the companies payback rate was either double or tripple the small amt. I needed, and I just couldn't bring myself to agree to that. The next day, and for the next three weeks I recieved 50+ emails a day from multiple payday loan websites, and they were calling my house phone all day trying to loan me money. I began to unsubscribe from the emails, and hang up on all calls. For the past week I have been getting calls from this unknown number, but would leave no message. TODAY I was home and caught the call. It was this guy! Same strong indian acct. Same threats. I was being charged with theft by recieving, electronic fraud, and identity theft via email. He had ALL my personal info, S.S.#, bank act.#, home address, e.t.c. HOWEVER, he never said he had my bank routing #. Yet he did know my banks name. Threatened to arrest me, was going to take my house, I would be paying him $3000+, kept throughing the word "federal" around. He said I borrowed the money from CASH ADVANCE or CASH NET..then he named off around 20 other diff. payday loan companies that I could have borrowed it from. I KNEW THIS WAS A SCAM, so I entertained him a bit. I asked how much did I borrow? He said "Between $250 & $350" I asked why he didnt know for sure, he talked over that. I then told him to listen to me carefully, that I to had been recording the conversation, and that I had never recieved any deposit into my bank act. from any payday loan company, nor had I requested or authorized any deposit.I told him that I would be contacting the police about this & my attorney, and would be listing a fraud alert on my bank act. And that if he ever called me again, I would sue him as well. He screamed he would be calling me again, and that he was coming to "my town" tomorrow to file these charges "into my name" and I would be arrested tomorrow. Said he was going to call my job, I laughed real hard and said "Go ahead, I'll give you the number...it's 911, I'm a cop". He hung up. Just to be on the safe side, I called my bank... they say I have to close my act. and open a new one to protect myself.... what a hassle.

I use to work for a payday loan place, sad but true. U can be taken to court if you dont pay, but the worse thing is u get a wage garnishment. Most companies dont like to do them unless they know for 100% where you work. But on the flip side im getting calls from these A**HOLES!  leaving me these BLAH BLAH messages about a court summons for bad checks. 1st off IF i was even to get a phone call from anyone it would be from my DAs office not some jerk in a call center. They damn sure dont give you the choice of attempting to keep this matter out of court. Also you DONT get summons over the phone, it comes certified US Mail or by some one in the clerks office. I know this for a fact. Make sure payday loans are even legal in your state for one, then call your Atternoy Generals Office to make sure its not a scam. If you have a case number, which this guy said i had, then there is a summons which i can find no record of lol, so why are u giving my the chance to keep this out of court? Shouldnt that be something myself or my Atterny disscusses with the ppl that are sueing me? Also they break to many laws just by leaving message. a collection message should state at most " My name is So n So please return my call at whatever number as soon as possible. They should never state the company name, the nature of the call or leave in of your personal info on a VM, this is incase someone else hears the VM and it totaly violates every privacy law, if it the loan is legit that cant do it cause you sign a privacy agreement when taking a loan. These ppl make me sick! all this is, is a dumb lame scare tatic to force ppl in to paying money they dont owe.....These guys are just buying your info from ppl. Dont worry at all, tell them to summons to, if you owe the debt, go the court house and pay it...and thats it. Also legit collection companies can run your credit...i had no spot on my credit where they did either..... But if you dont think this is a scam or just want to double check...follow these simple steps:

1) Pull Your credit, see who is tryin to collect on you
2) Contact your Atterny Genrals office, state your case, they should be able to tell you
3) If they leave some case number or what not, call your local civil court and check the case number
4) Do a back round check on your self

After this is all said and done here are some tips that can help you in the future.

1) Reg your number (if you choose not to change it) on  www.donotcall.gov website, this takes your number from telemarketors.
2) Google your name and city such as John Doe, Lakeville AL and see what comes up. This is because there are so many websites where ppl can look you up for free and get free info like your name, cell number, house address and email, and possible family member (which they can look them up too) this is without paying a dime, others you need to pay for for certain information, but you can each one of these sites and have your info removed....I DID! (Its legally tho, everything they have is considered public info)
3) Avoid any internet offers like online payloan company, some are legit, your state website should have a list under small loan and approved internet venders.

I hope this helps guys! As i said dont worry about these jerks!!! theyre idiots!

Tell your bank or card issuer you've been scammed, ask that your bank/issuer claw back money from the thief, and ask that your card be replaced with a new one as criminals have it and can charge again. Be aware your contact info may have been sold to other scammers as someone who has fallen for this and you may get more scam calls in the future.

This is a version of the you-have-committed-a-crime extortion scam and you are being...
1. charged with fraud or passing bad checks or embezzlement or
2. served with a court summons or arrest warrant or bench warrant or whatever or
3. located in preparation to being served or for a lawsuit or to be arrested or
4. whatever stupid crap reasons they will think up next.

And you have to...
1. call back with your case number or
2. confirm your address or SSN or whatever so you can be served or your papers can be processed or
3. pay $895 now to avoid paying $5,000 in court or
4. whatever stupid crap reasons they will think up next.

Beware extortion scams come in many flavors and they constantly evolve to stay one step ahead of the law.
The FBI warns about payday loan extortion scams here http://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/paydayloanscam_120710
The BBB has issued several alerts on this scam, just google "bbb.org alert phony debt collector"
Never do what they tell you to do but report them to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.

Got the first voicemail yesterday. Threatening, as everyone has previously stated. Noticed a call from the same number this morning. I'm glad I found this information so I can be proactive to stopping the problems.

I can't understand how they can survive more than a day in this digital age. Law enforcement should be able to track them down in less than a few hours. Everything today can be traced!

This guy called me and identified himself as Jeromy Harrison from DFF, and they were proceeding with a fraud case with my SS# and banking number. I asked for them to email me or fax me proof of the charges and they asked if I had an attorney. I told them I did and gave them his number. They said they still need to talk to my boss and called back about 20 times harrasing all my co-worker and boss!! I still get occasional calls on my cell phone with "unknown" on the caller ID. When I answer they hang up!! These guys are scammers to the fullest and I had to close my bank account to protect myself!! All my co-workers were asking me all sorts of questions about who I owed money to ect...  Very embarassing and humiliating. The police should be avle to shut this kind of activity down by tracing the call don't you think?

It's a group of Nigerian scammers saying they're calling from a PA law office! They are assuming I'm going to pay them out of fear....I'm fighting back and you should too! This type of harassment is a financial terrorist act and should be delt w/swiftly!

These people have called me 4 times and my supervisor twice today.   They state I owe for a bogus payday loan that I never took out.  When I start quoting chapter and verse from the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, they act like I am speaking Greek.  The man that called me identified himself as Richard Thomas in his voicemails.  If he does not answer when you call back, the man who answers will only identify himself as Albert.  They pretend to be from some government agency with a warrant for my arrest if I don't pay them.  These men speak with very thick Arabic and Indian accents.  This number is an area of Pennsylvania under the jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania State Police instead of local law enforcement according to the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office.  Don't waste your time calling them initially, initiate a complaint through your local law enforcement agency.  Best of luck to all who are dealing with this scum.  Stay Tough and don't let the ragheads intimidate you.  We got Bin Laden and we can get them too!!!

If thyey call you, tell them that the Federal Fair Debt collection act requires them to mail verification of debt.  If they say they cannot do this.  It is a scam.  I have saved the number and anytime I am having a bad day, I call them and give them a hard time.  Also ask for a physical address.
