Call from non-native English speaker who could not pronounce my name -- told him it was a wrong number and he apologized and hung up.

Call received 10/10/2007 at 9:00 p.m.  Caller ID read "NY COP" and number read 571-431-1984.  Did not answer and caller did not leave message.

Got one tonight from Alexandria, VA - that's all that was on the caller ID

The guy called me with the same "nice to hear a happy voice" saying.  I asked how much went towards the organization and what it was for.  He said the funds went for continuing education of life saving skills...which seemed odd to me.He said he was not sure and did not want to give me inaccurate info.  He gave me a 1800 number to call and through that you can get off their call list.  The number was a recording and I have found no verifying information for this organization anywhere on the web so I was not about to take their recorded info as accurate.  Hope this helps.

This is a "charity" solicitation from the Northern Virginia Coalition of Firefighters.  When I asked what percentage of their funds went to actual good use the representative said "Oh, a lot!".  Right.  I'm going to try to find out the details.  You were wise not to pick up.

I just got a call sunday at 12:45, listed as out of area they left no message. If you are on a do not call list, even charity's shouldn't be able to contact you unless you have had some prior busines with them, or so I thought.

this guy sounded like he had smoked a couple of joints before he called...and OH YEA!...I'm "supposed" to get tix to see Billy Joel in Fairfax.  He asked for my credit card #....DON'T GIVE IT!  He said they were "non-profit."

I've gotten like 5 called from this number in the last 3 or 4 days and they always call while I'm gone. They happened to call once while I was home and when I picked up and said hello, they hung up.

Hate when these guys do this.  Don't let them fool you, they aren't collecting for any fire fighters group.  These scams go on all the time...don't believe they're collecting for police either.  If you want to contribute, call your local police dept.  Also, this area code is from the Broadlands, VA area in Northern Virginia...I know, I live here.

On 9/12 received call at 7:28. Picked up, said hello but no one responded on the other end. I hung up.

I just got a call from this place.  They say they are looking for donations for police and firefighters in Northern Va.  She knew my name and asked how I was doing tonight.  I said Im fine, take me off your list I dont want to receive calls like this.

Just got one too.. Argh. the guy left a message saying hello, hello, hello, hello hello hello hello like 20 times. REALLY obnoxious.  Glad I found you guys to know it's not a stalker.

Got a call on 9/14 at 6:05. I didn't answer, and IT didn't leave a message.

Got a call from "NY Cop" on 09/14 at 11:36 am.  Didn't answer, and I am glad too that I didn't....they left no voice mail.

Got a call from "NY Cop" at 09/14 at 9:15 am.  Didn't pick up, and looking at others' experiences, glad I didn't.  What's next?  "Iraqi War Veteran?"  Whatever (someone thinks) sells.

I have gotten that same number about three times in the last two days but with no messages. We just got a new phone service and all the calls we get are non-profit people looking for money.

I answered it, caller ID NY Cop too. He said he was a "paid solicitor" for a Firefighter organization. I hung up on him requesting I be put on their do not call list. Today is the 9/11 anniversary so I felt he was trying to take advantage of the day. After reading your posts it looks like I was wrong about trying to use today as an "opportunity" to do collections but I still think it's poor judgement at the very least.

I got this number just now - 9/10 - It came up as "UNKNOWN NAME" on my caller ID.  Didn't asnwer it (I hate answering unknown name calls) and there was no voice mail left.

I called the number back - a recording came on and said that it was the Northern VA Coalition of Firefighters...... so a non-profit.  I just wish they would not clal!  UGH!

I'm getting calls from the "NY Cop" now, too. Never answered any of the calls, and don't intend to. I'm on the Do Not Call registry so only non-profits should be able to call me, but I thought they had to identify themselves on the caller ID. Shouldn't they have to identify themselves truthfully and obviously?

I have received a call from this number with a caller ID of "NY Cop" every monring and evening for a week.  It is listed at least 6 times on my phone.  I never answer and they never leave a message.  I am sure they are a telemarketer of some kind, but I refuse to answer.  I just wish I knew who they were and how to make them stop, without having to actually talk with them!

Got it here in northern VA, twice so far.  Same Caller ID: "NY Cop." I didn't pick up and they left no voice mail.
