The original post describes a phone call with threats of legal action. And a request for a time and place to serve papers (idiotic ? no process server with the IQ of an elderberry would want the recipient to know that in advance). So you're faced with a choice: Either admit that your "legitimate" debt collectors behave in such an unethical, illegal and stupid fashion; or admit that this is a criminal trying to scam money from someone who doesn't owe.

Pardon me but that's BS. There's no reason to lie here, where everybody operates under a pseudonym. And there's no *point* in lying to a legitimate debt collector because they'll have documentation that proves the debt.

If you can prove that someone here is lying then post the evidence for that individual. Otherwise STFU.

Well what you dont realize is that 90% of the people who LEGITIMATELY owe money on this forum will say its been paid or they never did it and thats what collectors deal with LIES just to avoid paying. For christ sake i dont see alot of people taking much responsibility for what theyve done to receive these phone calls in the first place. they just immedietly deny deny deny and then call the agencies scammers. I will agree that there are alot of agencies operating outside of the law and even some who are pursuing previously paid or non existent accounts but theres not a person on THIS forum who has to worry about that. Its not often you find debtors on here saying " So yea few years back i really got behind and had to turn to a payday loan ........etc " i think maybe the first step is to accept responsibilitiy for initiating the whole process then address your comfort level with the collecting agency ,which to be blunt you have no control over who gets PAST DUE ACCOUNT ...so if you dont like the way that the legitimate agencies collect then maybe you should make an honest attempt to resolve your balance with the original creditor OR keep better track of where your accounts going next and stop IGNORING your debt so that 3 years down the line when you get a call from an unfamiliar company your first reaction isnt to CRY and point the finger at everyone else calling them the scam....just remember that you initiated the phone call...PLEASE PARDON MY SPELLING

You don't seem to realize that the regulars at the forum  here agree that if you have a LEGITIMATE debt then yes, you should pay it.  However - we take issue with people who come here trying to scam people into paying money that's either already been paid to the original creditor or is completely bogus.  I have no problem with people putting out their view - I also have the right to put out information about what is and isn't legitimate when it comes to debt collection.  

It would be illegal to put out debtors' names on a site like 800notes - this is contrary to the FDCPA.  And no, it isn't wrong to call attention to those agencies who do not abide by the FDCPA.  

Yes, the whole world should be educated as to both sides - insofar as what is LEGAL for collections agencies to do and also to know how to identify and call out practices which are fraudulent/deceptive/scammy.

I received a call from Michael Harris as well a 585-815-8506, 1st of all i was told by a  coworker that someone is on the line for me re a legal issue and they want to come to my job to serve me papers, i told my co worker to inform him that i don't take personal calls at work and not to call, the idiot called me back 2x at work, on the 3rd x i picked up the phone to tell him personally not to call my job i asked for his name & # and informed him that i would call him back because i was busy at work. He was Very Rude and continue talking i told him i'm not going to argue with him or speak with him and hung up on him, less then 5 mins he called my  cell phone i answered it and told him that he is now harassing me at work and hung up on him, he called me 2 more times finally i used my app on my phone to block his calls because he is VERY RUDE and will continue to call you while your''re at work and like some of the other complaints on her yes he did inform my co worker of my business and try to lie and say that he didn't i asked him then how did she know what the call was about. He also left a voicemail stated that someone would be at my job within 3 hours to serve me WELL I'M STILL WAITING! This is a form of harassment from a credit agency who are very unprofessional and very rude who try to scare people. I hope someone sues the pants off of them!

This Michael Harris from 585-815-8506 just called my daughter, and proceeded to tell her all information regarding a so called debt that is owed from 2009.  The Fair Debt Collection Practices states - "Debt Collectors may not reveal to third parties that you owe debt."   I noticed his telephone number on my telephone, but he did not leave a message.  I called the number back and got a recorded message who this person is.  My next call was to Lakeport Recovery, the person I spoke to said that she would look in to the matter and call me back.  My next call is the Attorney General's office.

This company is spoofing numbers, probably in an attempt to sound more frightening.  They will call from a fake number that will look like they are calling locally to you.  I mean, who would buy that some company in New York is going to put you in jail in another state?  This is a total scam.  They will tell you that you owe on some Payday loan from up to 5 years ago and will probably tell you if you don't pay they will advise their attorneys to sue or jail time.  I called an attorney and they told me the Payday loan collection scam is a big one and you can actually sue them.  DO NOT give them any money!

Definite scam.  Received same type of call re payday loan; threatened criminal action.  Even though they are a supposed collection agency, they do not advise of this fact and do not comply with requirements advising you that they are trying to collect a debt.

I received actually how my brother received a call from a Eric Patterson , and said.I was going to jail if I didn't contact him, so of coarse I called back asap, said it was a payday loan from Jan. 2011, just wondering if this is a legit place? He told me he was from Iowa i think

I think maybe you should re-read the letter and see if your absolutley correct and consistent with whatever recordings they may have when you made the payments, thats probably step 1. Because if you agreed to something and then attempted to modify that, then mr/mrs weezer well thats exactly why your in this position to begin with. But if they did stray from what you said on a recorded line , then you have a legitimate concern. 2nd to be perfectly honest with you i cant see why you would want to discuss your personal matters through email anyway i work for an insurance claims dept and cant figure my higher ups ever wanting me to correspond through email with a client, if you have what you feel to be an actual concern your best bet would  be to discuss it with a live rep instead of an email ....GOOD LUCK HOPE I HELPED

I got calls from a Michael Harris, then he even called my spouse and my mother. How he located them is beyond me but found them alright.  Was very rude to my mom.  He called me at work and I asked him not to bother me there and he said he had every right to call me wherever and anytime he wanted.  Anyway - to make a long story short, he emailed me a summary indicating I owed $ to a payday loan company from years ago.  I honestly dont know if I owed that or not as it was so long ago but it was possible so I agreed to payments with them.  Well the letter they sent me sumarrizing my payments stated I agreeded to pay more than what I said.  So I emailed them and said no - please only take out a certain amount.  Well Mike Harris called and left me a message stating that business is allowed through email and to stop emailing them.  So I ignored them and when my next payments came do I once again I sent an email stating the amount that could be withdrawn.  Again, Mike Harris called but from a DIFFERNT number 585-366-0160 and said no business through email.  He said emails are not ok.  I dont know what to do.  Are these guys legit?  Should I stop payments to them?  Help!!!

They say that they are lakeport management company. I researched and found out the lakeport recovery group inc website is a fake to get more information out of you when you fill out the complaint form. This company has several names starting with National Debt Holdings LLC aka Orion Processing Solutions aka Global aka World Law all owned by Jeremy Poehler 2345 Sheridan Dr Towanda NY. This company is a fruad they treatened jail time. I have told them to send the local police deptpartment that has been over a month now and they havent showed up. Please help spreading the information to every website out there to shut these people down.

This scam company calls from 585 area code numbers which is Rochester NY when in fact they are located at 733 Delaware Rd in Tonawanda NY 14150 Do not know who owns the company but do not pay these scammers.
