Good advice, thx.  I was wondering about that command to press one.  I was worried that simply hanging up would be the same as pressing 1.  Idk

it does plenty of good to look at this website that way you can compare what you found out and what others have been through then you know not to give any more information to these people.
especially do not give them any of your account numbers.
a simple no thank you and hang up did you know there is a big fine for people who keep calling when they're told not to though.

Shows up at Rochester, NY on the caller ID.  Same deal... some guy asking to speak to whoever handles the electric bill.  I hung up.

They called home phone.  It must be a robo dialer since it's a fairly common exchange that I have that I have given to literally no one.

This board is simply a sounding board for people to vent and inform others of scam telemarketing calls they receive.  There is no authority associated with the 800notes site to stop these callers.  In order for people to collectively stop these type calls they must act together - and TAKE ACTION!  It doesn?t do any good to complain about a caller on this board unless you then take the next step and do something about it!  The caller ID number is usually a ?Spoof Number? ? A Fake!  Never, never, ever engage the caller or call back the number.  The false robocallers will then capture your number as a ?live one? and use it over and over and sell it to other scammers.  The same goes if it prompts you to ?press a key? to ?opt out?  of their calling lists, or be transferred to someone, as this will only ?log? your number as a working one and make it ripe for future calls and to be sold to other scam companies as well.
The best option is simply to hang up, keep your own list of calling numbers with dates and times and report them to the FCC below.  There is space on their complaint form to list several calling dates and times of a repeat caller.
The DO NOT CALL list is worthless, they do not act on anything, just build a database of numbers.
In order to do something to help stop these type calls, everyone - EVERYONE needs to file an online complaint directly with the FCC.  If they receive enough complaints about a particular number - they will act on it.  Do it today and pass along the info:

This number keeps calling me every day, sometimes multiple times a day. It also comes in from another number which displays "Avon NY" and sometimes a 1-800 number. They always ask to speak to someone about the electric bill and when I ask them to send me information they say "We don't do that. We sign you up over the phone." Sounds like a scam to me since they never say who they are and what they are actually going to save you or how...

I took one of these calls a few months ago from a woman who said because of deregulation I was eligible for a discount on my electric bill. I didn't have to do anything but give her my electric bill account number. When I asked for the name of her organization again she began to repeat the canned spiel and I heard:" the only difference you will see on your bill is your supplier". That must be the scam. The change in supplier lowers your bill for a short time, then it goes way up and apparently you can't change back right away! I told her thanks but no thanks.

This company claims to be an electric company and wants to save us money. We have told them numerous times to stop calling our number. We've reported them (which obviously did no good). I looked on another site too which says this number isn't even a valid number.

These people make robo calls and want you to sign up for an electric service discount.  I have asked them to send written information and that is when they hang up.  I have asked to be removed, still getting calls. Seems like a scam to me.
