I put all my such callers under the contact list entry Dicklickers. And of course, they get auto forwarded to voicemail. I will have to check out an app to drop them automatically, especially if there is a community blacklist utilized

If your debt is older than 7 years it should automatically fall off your credit. So unless your trying to buy a house pay your medical bills.

Received two calls today, first I did not answer then answered and asked to be taken off their list. Supposedly a "Roy" owes money, and they wont take it off since "my account may use my number" Called and kept getting sent to same phone person... SCAM

You also have to be careful, because these debt collectors sometimes use their  own cedll # and leave a message unrelated to you, so if you respond or call back to tell them they call the wrong person, they know you exist and keep calling back. So the best thing to do is not to answser anyhone not in your friend list, if your friend calls you he/she will leave a message, or else. I receieve calls from people to supposedly others to apologize, or about a dead in the family (they don't have scrupulus), so you call them they had the wrong number. These debt callectors become creative, remember they get comm ission on the $ they bring back to these collectors who buy your debts for cents of the dollar, (sometimes at .005 or .10, and then benefit from the rest they can get, and you are already screwed, no matter what. WShether pay or not pay, so... good luck! and sorry for all our problems.

Agreed with Elias open iPhone iBlacklist, open your blacklist, add number to blacklist and save. You can select actions such as send them straight to voicemail, ring busy and several others. You can even have it send them a text like "Nice try A-hole, move on to your next number". Of course that is if they dial from a cell phone which many do.

I had my voicemail taken off my phone so it just rings and rings and rings and they can't leave a message. Then I do the silent ringtone. LOL.

So like I paid and paid through a reputable consumer credit company that brought down my debt to almost nothing, then I got sick, several surgeries, massive medical bills piled up and I could not finish paying off the little bit of credit card debt I had.  But it's all interest and now they pile more interest on interest.  They have already ruined my credit and these amounts are really just interest on interest.. debts to like citibank of 100 bucks, sold to these companies who keep piling on interest.... I have to pay my drs so I can continue my medical treatment to get WELL or at least have some little quality of life.
My question is, are these companies who buy the larger banks' very small debts, are they going to pile on soooo much interest that they will have like 2 grand of interest and be able to file a judgment?  Is that what's next?  I so want to file bankruptcy like 4 yrs ago but husband refused.  What do I do?  I paid one of these companies already 1500 thinking ok, knock out the big ones first and try to pay everything, get out of debt but this has snowballed so badly that I do not know what to do other than tell the callers I am not the one they are looking for.

But what's the smartest thing to do at this point?  WHY should I have to pay on interest compounded for years over an almost paid off card.  Yes I should have paid it off when that card was almost paid but I was so sick; that finances didn't matter, surviving did!  I have a child!
So what to do?  And these people, once you say you are that person, you get 25 other companies trying to collect what was a 30 dollar bill, that interest at 32 percent now says I owe 1800?  They keep harassing and then others find you and there's no end.
Do I keep as I am doing and pay my medical bills or waste money on these companies who bought the old debt?  Am I liable for that old debt they now say is so much more???
These are my questions.  ty for reading.

I've got calls from these xxx-holes before. I'm debt free, so there's no ~legitimate~ reason for them to be calling me...

What these people do is start calling numbers that come back to the last name (or even first and last names) of the person they're looking for - which is to say they're on a fishing expedition...

They hope to hook somebody - thus they annoy people like myself and others with these calls...

I put myself thru college and med school doing the dirty work for a bunch of sleezy bill collectors based here in LA. I know how these xxx-holes think...

Call Control is awesome. There is a way to be free from the hassle of these cockroaches. I recommend to everyone to use a silent ring or a blocking app. I hope the debt collectors go out of business because no one is bothered by the calls anymore.

Debt Collector
Given all the great ways to use smarter phones, silent ringtone, custom answer messages, apps that intercede like Call Control, etc. I predict this whole collection industry will collapse because they can be ignored finally. Why doesn't someone pay their bill? Maybe personal circumstances so dire, yet cannot afford to declare bancruptcy. No one wants to lose their credit and trust me - these a***ole bill collectors don't give a fig about your circumstance so they are not worth talking to. I encourage everyone to join the great migration to smart phone responses and thus freedom from harrassment. A bad financial situation is already bad enough and if they have your number by mistake, same difference, better to block that try to explain anything to these pests. Have a better 2013 everyone!!!

I'm getting these calls even though I'm still in high school and even though I told them I'm not whoever they're looking for and how old I am, they won't stop calling, and they usually call at the most inconvenient of times like my grandfather's funeral or at 2 AM.

Get Call Control (an Android app). Put them on your personal blacklist. The app also has a community blacklist. It's great.

I've got a great idea. Everyone cb Asset Acceptance Capital Corp. and just leave then hanging on the line. I like to put them on speaker phone and string them along. 'Just hang on, I'll be right with you'. See how long you can tie them up for.

If you have an iPhone just connect it to your wireless network or you can use your data plan but it is slower. 4 minutes max on wifi, 10 mins on 3G max. Go to jailbreakme.com and follow instructions. You will have Cydia installed. Install Installous and get iBlacklist.

Verizon Wireless lets you block 5 numbers for free.  But you have to do it every 6 months or so.  Usually by then they stop trying to call since they can't get through.
