Our business keeps getting calls from these people. They keep asking us about our MichCon or DTE bill, considering nobody within a 300 mile radius HAS either one of these services, I'm guessing it's a scam.

Same story as TDK.
Bob 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
They claimed to be calling about the michcon account. Since they insisted it was important, I told them the owner is in one day a week (Tuesday). We now get calls every day of the week from these jerks except on tuesdays.

government employee 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
LOVE these guys. They called a STATE OF CALIFORNIA agency and left their BS message about wishing to discuss our gas account with us. Claimed they were an affiliate of PG&E's customer choice program. Unfortunately for them, the number they called IS not listed with PG&E, they obviously are using an auto-dialer or consecutive number list. This is the third call we've received in my office in the last week - our numbers are all a few digits apart, although not consecutive.
I lit a flame under their butts and am now reporting them to the pertinent agencies within our system.

lol, how old are you..? Just asking cause I think you need a hearing AID. Or to repair the one your currently using. These people called me too. They need your SERVICE ID NUMBER, NOT SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. Sounds similar, but from what I heard. The only thing they can do with that number is pay your bills, or verify you for the program. But your probably too old to qualify.
NB345 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
I agree. But hey, these are the same people that go online, hear that a celebrity died. And that's all they want to talk about for weeks. No social lives. So they want to whine that they got called from someone. lol, Honestly I think I'd feel pretty special someone called me that often? Scam or not, I'd be pretty lucky guy. Seriously though, it's not a scam. I checked out the site, and they are a legit company. They are even on PG&E's website.. Energy for Home>Customer Service>Energy choice... They even have their name on the list of their approved suppliers they got certified to sell gas to them.
jordanRUNE 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
Think about what your saying for a second.. Andrea. Do you honestly think a company.. is hired to contact YOU, to ask you for your social security number? (like your important enough) lol, honestly now. Did you finish school? pre-school must have been so hard on you. I can purchase hearing aids around the room. They ask for your service ID number. What is this? oh well.. since you only learned how to swipe a credit card you may not know. The SERVICE ID NUMBER, not SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. Is what they use to check your account status. It can either be used to verify your current status. Or pay your bill. Which I'm pretty sure a company wouldn't call you to do.
Jon 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
Your probably the most gramatically correct idiot I have ever heard of. Congrats. haha. What really gets me is clue number 2. Lets go over this again. You go to a designed website (purchased from a marketing corporation), set up by a legit company, that actually has a job making gas for your utility... and find nothing interesting in regards to what they have to say about their own program. Then you head to a random blog, made up of strangers comments, gossip, and the words "SCAM" written all over the search and you honestly think this is the more important find? Well say, aren't you a perfect match for the stereotypical american... I don't think I could top that.
NA 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
Jon there is no need to get that way. These people call me ALL the time, everday! They may not be a scam, but these people are obviously trying to sell me something that I do not want. In fact, I have told them this several times and they still continue to call back.
EnergyConsultant 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
NOT if u are a business.... commercial businesses cannot be on the Federal Do Not Call list registery.
EnergyConsultant 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
If you get a call from this number ~ ask to speak directly to the General Manager Bernard Munoz ask him what they are calling about. Hes good at telling the employees what peices of crap they are and that they cant sell anything and he can scam anyone (and hes supposedly christian) bet u he wont be able to tell you anything if he actually even gets on the phone.
R Ludlow 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
I caught them lying!!
I am always suspicious of people who want me to pay a fee to save money. They told me three times that they would charge me a $4 fee which would replace the "generation" charge that now costs me over $26.
I have telephone recording equipment so I began recording and told the salesperson, "I'm recording this call for my own protection". She said "thats fine, I understand sir".
Then I asked her to verify that indeed the Generation fee would not appear on my PG&E bill but would be replaced by their $4 charge. She put me on hold for a while and when she came back she said that she was sorry and that wasn't true. It would be the "Public Purpose programs" charge that would go away and be replaced by the $4 fee. (a much smaller savings of about $3).
I ended the call there and told them it was because the story changed so drastically AFTER I told them I was recording. To me, saving $3 plus some vague promise of some percentage discount on my gas (% off of what price??) is not worth giving up information to some call center that calls me out of the blue.
I don't know if their program is a scam or not - but I do know their story changed when I told them I was recording .

Received a call which appeared as "AGR" on caller ID on 2/26/08.
Got a sales pitch from a woman who said she was calling from Spark Energy.
She said their company could save me money on my natural gas bill. I was suspicious and for kicks I asked her questions which she couldn't answer and she handed the phone to a guy. He said he works with Spark Energy and he needed information from me to see if we qualified to get on a special program to get our natural gas prices reduced through PG&E. I He asked for my PG&E account information and I told him I didn't have it available, He then said he'd get a PG E representative on the phone and we could have a conference call and she could guide us through the process. The first question she asked was
"What is your social security number?"
CLICK! I hung up on them immediately
JW 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
Wayne Chancey called and asked for someone in accounts payable/billing. Nobody was available so I took a message. It was about a MX Energy (natural gas) account. We had propane at 1 time, but not natural gas. The return number he gave me was 1-800-836-6961.
Mike 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
No message, but this number has called me before, and has no connection that I know of to my energy provider, NIPSCO. I have gas and electric with them, not this "AGR", who ever they are.
Bill Cummings 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
Annoying telemarketing scam
Carla 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
This MX Energy is annoying. They call our businness almost daily and every day we tell them not to call anymore - but, like most telemarketers they still call back. They are not affiliated with your Natural Gas or Electric Company. They want you to switch to their company for your natural gas and electricity, I think it's just another telemarketing scam also....
They always leave the call back number 1-800-836-6961 x1132
Vicki 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
the number shows, but not the name, which shows as unknown name.
Margaret 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
I just got a phone call from the same Arizona number. I have just moved so I don't have a gas account number. "Anita" seemed confused and then the Manager came on the line. He said I needed to call my gas company for my account number and one of his associates would be calling me back in a half hour to get the information and get me signed up on a "Price Point Protection Plan". I called my gas company and they are not affiliated with anything of that sort.
buddy 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
Received same marketing call today
800-836-6961 x3236 so these people are calling anyone
TDK 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
Didn't answer the call. Googled it afterwards. Found this site.
Stuart 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
I got a call from this place last week and yesterday.
Glad I checked this site and know for sure it is a scam.
Seems it is a small ring of scammers as the same girl called both times.
These people should be ashamed of themselves.
I hope they don't sleep at night.
BTW-
get on the Do Not Call Registry.
If you warn them you are on that, you can sue them if they call again.
Andrea 2011-06-06 20:52:04 Unknown
SCAM!
