Called my mobile phone today, didn't leave a message. Don't know who they are or how they got my number, but I've never bought anything from PC Connection.

I finally answered when they called and told them we didn't need their service.  Hopefully that'll end the cold calling.

One or two calls is fine for cold calling.  But this company is just relentless in their attempts and even when you tell them you are not interested several times.  That is what brings on frustration.

Most of us do not berate cold callers if they call a couple times but once or twice a week for a year is over the top.

And another month, another braindead from PC Connection.

Sure guys, we'll switch from our current multi-billion $ vendors to some dodgy outfit in New Hampshire that called us out of the blue, why not?

Morons tried calling for the second time in a couple months to our helpdesk - told him my boss was too busy to talk to him, and besides we're happy with our current vendors. He came back with "Well, what makes them so great?" in a really sullen and annoyed tone, just laughed at him and hung up.

really...... I have been in sales for most of my life and if a customer asks me to stop calling I do it. I know statistically if you call enough people you will create some leads but once they say stop all you will do is upset them. I have been receiving 20-30 calls a month from some online pharmacy. I have asked them nicely to stop but this has continued for, wait for it......7 years. yes, I said 7 years. I have blocked there number through my phone carrier but they keep changing the number and getting through.

Received a phone call from one of their reps who was very polite.  I advised that we were not interested and he started in with the "you don't understand..." I attempted to explain again, we are not interested, but thank you for the offer and then here we go again with the "you don't understand what our company does..." It was very demeaning, almost as if he thought a lady wouldn't know about IT or maybe he was just trying to do a good job and make a sale.  Either way I was offended.  I don't have to explain our company to a stranger and in the end he's the one who didn't understand.  ::le sigh::

I got a call from this number last night (PC Connections) and they left a message saying they wanted to speak to me regarding an online purchase I had made with them. I checked here for the number and no one had anything good to say about this comppany. I certainly had not made a purchase there so I did not call them back. They called again this morning and I answered. She asked me if I had purchased an iPad from them yesterday. Nope. She told me someone had used my discovercard, she had the right 16 digits and the security number on the back of the card. Told me they had given my phone number and she confirmed my address. I didn't give her any of this, she gave it to me. Told me that they were having the iPad shipped to a different address and that it raised suspicions so they always call to confirm. She told me to call Discovercard and cancel my card immediately, since it had been compromised. I did that and it is now null and void with no fraudulent charges and a new card in the mail for me. Thank God. There was a pending charge of $1.61 from a place called SEALS Dream Yacht Club. The guy at the credit card company said that is a technique used to see if it is a working card. They said they will not pay that either. So I am just letting you know that there was a good reason for my phone call from PC Connections.

What i enjoy the most about the complaining from disgruntled people is most every company you can think of has sales people in one aspect or another, Since cold calling does work ( math) if your own sales people at your own company stopped doing their jobs you would ( as an I.T. professional) be out of a job. I.T. profesionals dont bring the company in money (per say) its the people who sell the companies services that do.
So before you get bent out of shape take a stroll into your own call center or go sit with your own salespeople and realize they keep you in a job by using proven methods that 100% work.

Called looking for someone in IT by name. He changes his mind when I get the information up and asks for another person who doesn't work for this company. He then asks for the original person.

If you go to http://money.cnn.com you can probably find this reference:

PC Connection
CEO: Patricia Gallup
Address: 730 Milford Rd.
Merrimack, NH 03054
Phone: 603-683-2000
Website: www.pcconnection.com

Now they DO provide I.T. services, so theoretically, someone else might be using their telephony services, masquerading as PC Connections.

Thanks for this posting. I got a call from this number from someone who didn't pronounce their name clearly and "wanted to do business" with our company. I had no idea what department to send it to, what it was about. I googled the call back number PC Connection. Now I see I can just delete it. Foolish waste of time by them. If our IT Dept is annoyed by callers like this they can just block the number. The benefit of IT based phone systems.

For all the people posting here acting like you don't know why everyone is so angry just because they got cold-called, let me make it simple:  I don?t know you. You call me. Your job is to convince me to give you money that would otherwise stay in my pocket or go to the company I ahave already decided to do business with. I would like to keep my money and not be called again. You call again.

If you still don't get it, you can choke on your call list.

OK, Cold Calling, if you really want to know why people dislike telemarketers, I can give you some insight.
There are lots of purchases to be made keep a business running. Most businesses have one specific person or department who is responsible for deciding what to purchase and where to get it from.  They are given this job because the company believes that they will make good decisions. First, they do research, then comparisons, then the decision. They know that in order to get the best value, they have to seek it out, not the other way around. They do not sit at their desks all day saying "Gosh, we really need to save money on XYZ product, I hope someone calls me soon with an offer, otherwise how will I ever find them?"
If you are lucky enough to work for a straight-shooting company like I do, there is probably ONE person who handles all of the final money-spending decisions. And guess what she is doing all day? She is here from 9-6 (sometimes later) every single day making sure we get the best price on everything the company buys (thousands of dollars worth of computer equipment DAILY). She writes all of our paychecks. She handles everything relating to our benefits. She re-imburses our expenses.  Dozens of telemarketers want to talk to her EVERY DAY. Guess how many of them get to talk to her? NONE. That's because I know that she has already done the job of finding the best price, and I do not think that Joe calling from Super-Health-Benefits-Saver-Co. who says he just wants her to take his survey is worth her valuable time. Because he?s not. And neither are you or anyone else who wants to try to convince her that she has made a mistake by choosing their competitor. If she talked to everyone who wanted to sell her something, she would have zero time left to do her actual job!
For my final point I would like to stress to you that none of this ? NONE OF IT ? is as bad as the fact that most of these callers refuse to take no for an answer. I?m talking about HANGING UP IN OUR FACES when we politely ask to take a message or suggest that we are not interested. I?m talking about straight-up ?I?m sorry, So-and-so is not available, but if you?d like to give me your number?? CLICK! Then hours or minutes later have the balls to do it again. Or to have the audacity to tell me I?m wrong when I suggest they are selling something. If it was a good product at a good price, then why would the salesman have to hire a telemarketer to conduct a ?survey? at the end of which they insist on setting up a meeting with said salesman?
At the end of the day, a telemarketer does not get paid unless they have convinced someone else to part with their cash, which is why so many of them will stoop to ANYTHING to get it. I really hope this has given you some insight to the anger and frustration expressed here.
PS ? Also please keep in mind that actual scam artists use the similar tactics to get money or information out of people over the phone ? so don?t sound so surprised if someone calls you that.
Breakdown ? I don?t know you. You are calling me. You want me to give you some money. I would like to keep my money and not be called again. You call again.  ? Is that simple enough for you to understand?

I'm not sure who started this nor do I care but undoubtly the person/persons do not know nor have had the pleasure of doing business with and/or working with Mr. Cronan.  Mr. Conan, yes, did a cold call but it was one of the best business decisions that our company has ever made.  Mr. Cronan has always gone above and beyond the call of duty in assisting us with any of our business needs.  Maybe if some of you would give him the time of day and a chance (takes a big person to give someone a chance) then you would realize that he's trying to make a living like the rest of us.  In his role as a sales person, sometimes you have to do a little fishing to get a big catch and vice versa.  And if it wasn't for the sales person in this world most companies would be BROKE.  THANK GOODNESS FOR SALES PEOPLE!

I had to do the same thing once at large well-known company that I worked for a few years ago.  Any callers who asked for "the person responsible for <fill in the blank>" got directed to a dummy voice mailbox.

I have been an IT professional for over 25 years.  Nowhere in any job description for any position I have ever held (and yes, purchasing is one of my reponsibilities) has it stated that taking cold calls from salespeople is one of my duties.   It is not my job, nor my that of my colleagues, to take cold calls.  We are busy enough with our real responsibilities that we don't need our day repeatedly interrupted by calls from salespeople with whom we have neither the desire nor the interest to speak to.   If I've done business with your company before an occasional call to see if I need anything or to tell me about a product that you think I might be interested in (because you've taken the time to learn about my business needs) is fine.  But if I have no prior business relationship with you, then leave me alone.  If I need you, I'll call you!  Annoy me enough and I will never do business you.

On Topic: 603-683-3000 called me three times in one day - on a day my voice mail said I wouldn't be in.   Buffoons.

Whenever we get one of these calls, we forward it to a fictitious employee that is "the person responsible" for EVERYTHING in the office. This guy handles everything from cleaning services to venture capital offers. Of course, he's so busy with all his responsibilities that he's never able to answer his phone, so the calls always go to voicemail. I do listen to them in case a legit call gets through, but 99% of them are crap.

The funny this is, we even had one or two people show up at our front door claiming they had an appointment with "Tom Anderson."

Got Justin from PC Connection as well. I transferred him to our operations manager's VM. He was actually very polite. I did tell him that we are in contract with a gentleman that is a friend of the OM, and most likely will not be going else where. I will ask the OM if she is interested at all in speaking with Justin next time he calls and if not, I will politely tell him that. At that point the calls really do need to stop, otherwise that is when I become super annoyed....
