I signed into my Rogers.com account and went into add/remove add-ons and 'deselected' voicemail - no longer being charged for missed calls going to voicemail

Unknown voicemail to my Rogers pay-as-you-go phone (unanswered, rec'd when I am in bed).
I don't care who the caller is... I don't want to get calls from them. Especially since I have to pay for each call received.

I keep getting calls to my voicemail from 604-618-1142 to my Rogers cellphone pay-as-you-go plan but when I check my voicemail, there is no message.  This number belongs to Fido, a subsidiary of Rogers.  So it would appear that to generate revenue Rogers is making bogus calls via Fido.  What a scam!

I've had the same issue and though it 'chokes me' no one mentioned the fact that it is still WAY cheaper than a contract....  I did auto top up for $100 for 12 months and even with these bogus charges, from 604-618-1142 and the fact that I seem to get charged long distance on incoming calls and and and - it still only cost me about $10 a months so far - a far cry from my old bills of $75 per month on a $40 per month plan - I think it just shows how badly we are being scammed by these companies....  maybe we all need to contact someone in government....  because most of us using pay as you go are either children, seniors, lower income or people who just need a phone for emergencies.....  the number is from Rogers - no doubt - it even states on your My Rogers that there is no monthly charge but there is a per use charge.... total BS

Who ever is making these calls should be legally stopped. Six calls in July which is not as many as some people but still costing me money  which is going into Rogers pockets. All "non messages" going into voice mail.

Got a reply from Rogers. You get charged if you haven't set up your voicemail (wtf ?!), so either set it up, or disable it. Reply below:

Thank you for taking the time to write to us, we appreciate your use of
online customer service.

I apologize for the confusion.  The number in question (604 618-1142) is
the Voicemail Deposit Number in your area. This number will appear in
your transaction history whenever an incoming call is forwarded to your
Voicemail.

There is no monthly fee for Voicemail with Pay As You Go; however,
regular airtime charges apply whenever the Voicemail is accessed. If you
have not yet set-up your greeting, unanswered incoming calls are still
forwarded to your Voicemail, although no message can be left.

Upon review, I see that you have already contacted Customer Service by
phone. The representative removed the Voicemail feature as well as
applied a $3.60 credit for the disputed Voicemail charges.

I called rogers customer service and they told me it was a CIBC number (highly unlikely), but I was given a courtesy refund for all 9 voicemail charges on my account. I've also sent them an email from their support site mentioning this thread, for what it's worth. If more people do so, it might help.

Okay.  Here's how you can fix it.

Rogers tells you that pay as you go voicemail is free.  But, you pay to check that voicemail.  If you modify addons and clear the voice messaging from your addons you can stop being charged.

Hope this helps.

Of course, you can only avoid the charges if you dont pick up the phone.

Ok guys, I sorted it out with Rogers Wireless today. It's not fraudulent. Pay-as-you-go customers pay for all access to voicemail. So if someone gets the voicemail and decides to hangup instead of leaving a message, you will still be charged for a minute worth of time. Your Summary shows the 604-618-1142 number, but that's not who is making the call, it just representing how long the voicemail was active.

Received several voice-mails from this number. Never leave a message. I am charged from my pay-as-you-go account. Must be a marketing company because when I try phoning the number it just rings and rings.
The charges are starting to add up and I don't know how to put a stop to this number.

I have the same problem, it is from Rogers. I have just tested it from my land line calling my Rogers Pay as you go line. The recording said the person is away from the phone but the voice mail is not activated. I check my bill over the internet and a voice mail received was charged for $0.25. I look at usage record and found 64 similar charges were made to my account. I will call Rogers tomorrow, since they are closed Sunday. What a service provider!!

Please tell your friends if they are new to Rogers pay as you go, make sure voice mail as an add on is not check off.

It's Voicemail access number for Rogers Customers in Vancouver area.  All Rogers Mobile Customers who have voicemail connect through that number to their own voicemails.  I doubt very much if anyone is getting called on their home phones by someone from that number

I am having the exact same problem... going to drop them as my cell phone provider.... took me 3 months to figure it out. Went to use my phone and had no minutes even though i had put minutes on a few days before. Thought my kids were using my phone with out my knowledge but nothing showed up in the out going history and my voice mail was always empty. Then everytime i tried getting onto the rogers account always said they were down. Just got on today and found this phone number over and over again. So choked about how many dollars have gone down the drain. GRRRR

This phone number started calling my son's new phone after we set it up for Pay as you Go... I think it is a way of Rogers to deplete the funds you have put on your Pay as you Go, each one said Voice Mail, and I had to end up disableing my son's voice mail (even though no messages were ever left)... it would take up every penny we put on there to top it up. I called them, they said there is nothing they can do to get the funds back... I say that is BULL... We would get 3-5 calls a day from that number and if you try to call it back, it just rings and rings and rings... then silence... sounds very very fishy to me. Funny, how everyone on here so far is a Roger's Pay as you Go customer... Wonder how many millions Rogers has taken from unsuspecting people, but pulling a stunt like this!

I phoned Rogers and found out this number is the number for the server that collects your voicemail calls and holds them until you retrieve them.

The Privacy Act prevents Rogers from revealing to you the original caller.....

So you get charged for every voicemail that is left on your system at your number
