I live in Apple Blossom Apartments at Sparta, Wisconsin.  This (sat) morning the 3rd of January, 2009, I got three rings on my phone at home, from 608-145-8523.  I didn't answer it in time.  But I called the lady across the street and asked whether she got a similar call.  She said she did, and that it was about water testing, and she did not listen.  The number was supposed to have been automated and asked one to press 1 for some reason.  She did not press 1, just listened, then hung up.  This follows by one day a legitimate robocall from the electric company warning they would be cutting trees in the area and to ignore this call if there were no overhead lines in your area.  And another call several days earlier which I did not get, warning that there would be a short power outage here.  Well, there was one, presumably by Excel the power company.  I looked for a caller ID on the warning but didn't find any I didn't recognize. So perhaps I didn't get the call tho the woman across the street did. This rental development, Apple Blossom Apts., is known as housing for the elderly even though more than half of the people here are NOT elderly.  There are some minor fears in the 64 unit apartment complex.  A motel about 750 feet away from here was held up early in the morning several weeks ago by presumed gunpoint. The gun wasn't shone. An outside post office box sitting unused for a single night in front of one of the apartments here, was stolen that night.  The newspaper delivery saw it there at 2:30 a.m., but it was gone in the morning.  Someone said there was someone going door to door early the next morning trying doors.  If so, they missed mine, which is open while I'm here, but locked when I'm not.  There have been no other serious robberies here in the ten years this development has operated, that I KNOW OF!  I tried tracing this number thru a reverse directory on the net.  It led nowhere, not even to a cell phone provider, which one usually finds, at a minimum, from White Pages.  I'm thinking its an untraceable trac phone like those used by drug dealers, then thrown away and replaced by another, for continued anonymity.  Homeland security was tracking sales of these tracs years ago, then was told by a court that they were perfectly legal.  I will try to determine whether the strange 145 index is a trac phone index, and report back. My caller ID indicates I have gotten a call from this number twice, but I can't immediately trace the day and time of the previous call. It is likely to be a trac phone because they are the only phones that are untraceable. I'll look into it and report back if I find anything out. I just checked the caller ID on another phone which had 36 calls on it.  The trac  phone called earlier here before 11/27/08, because I did not find it on the second caller ID that far back.  Thanks for listening.  Today is January 3, 2009.

(I found this record while browsing the net for 608-145-8523. The number has been in use since October 30th, as indicated below. I recognize my own comment as among those: the one back on November 11th, which is armistice day. November 11th, then is the day I received my first call from 608-145-8523.  I recognize 'Jaszmin' below as my usual internet ID, one I've been using since 1995.  I wrote something on this forum on that day, and you can see others have gotten calls back to October 30th.  Mike Rice, Sparta, Wisconsin)

This was an unsolicited call regarding tap water testing. They ask for the reciever of the call to press 1 to hear more about free water testing in their area. I would suggest that nobody ever press any numbers when these automated messages ask you to. You never know what pressing that number will do. It may even give the caller access to use your phone for long distance charges.

If this is a solicitation for tap water testing DO NOT RESPOND....there was an article in the paper about a scam in the area where these people try to get access to your house supposedly to test your water...then you get ripped off!!!!
