But try threatening the average collection clown that you have an attorney and will take swift action against them.  Do you really think they care or that you will follow through?  You see, the average person may not but I did.  Collection agencies have tried the scare crap with me before calling themselves "agents" and "preparing a legal case against me".  It is the ambiguity of their claims and identity that makes me laugh.  The real funny part is when I turn the tables on them.  To claim that you are a law enforcement official even using words such as "agent" in an attempt to deceive is a felony.  I used this tactic to successfully prosecute two collection firms that ended up with hefty fines and prison terms for the individuals concerned.  i warned these idiots in writing several times to knock it off but they did not listen to basic fear and common sense.  I initiated a final phone call to the collection moron stating that "if he wanted to enter the hell that I have created for him, then I introduced myself as the devil as I hand you your gasoline suit."  Bottom line is the jack***es think they have power but they do not. They make me laugh an it's pure entertainment at this point.  So collection idiots if you want to collect on a legitimate debt that is more than seven years old, please just  give up.  I'll see you in court most definately with a big smile.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Called, refused to validate the debt or provide any real details unless I gave him my checking account info first. Demanded I give him my social so he could verify who I was, said he'd only mail out validation if I paid him first. Was rude and when I told him not to yell at me, told me not to threaten him. Typical bottom feeder.

I  three calls from (608) 467-0631 yesterday. I rejected the calls as they came in. Then I added them to my blocker. I get a record of blocked calls. So far today, Oct 31, 2012, by 10:09 AM I've got 18 more. The total is 21 calls in 24 hours.

Neither a real person or robo-recording has ever been on the line...merely a dial tone.  I answer the phone for a company of approximately 150 people, so it's my job to keep picking up the ringing line, but it is annoying to waste my time on poor business practices such as this.   I've also received calls from 213-814-0180 that IDs the same company, "Halsted."

This number has been calling me everyday and never leaves a message. I finally answer and have to hit 0 to speak with someone. The person who answers didn't even give a name just said "Hi, did you receive a call from my office?' They were calling for my mother, I tell the guy this isn't her number and stop calling and he hung up on me! So I called back, hes all nice asked how I'm doing. I tell him was great until he hung up on me and he tells me it wasn't him, but it totally was. I tell him that number has been calling me everyday and never leaves a message and that I do not answer numbers I don't know. He laughs and starts asking why I don't answer numbers I don't know. I tell him anyone I know, I have their number in my phone and know who it is.. anyone else if they know me or need me will  LEAVE A MESSAGE, or shouldn't be calling me. He starts talking rude saying "oh so you just shut out the rest of the world?" WHAT? Then he starts over talking me and says something about a lawsuit for my mom and I should really listen. I told him he should listen to me because I had looked up this number online and read many reviews about how rude this person was and calling people all the time. Said again it was not my mothers number and asked how they even got my number. He starts yelling at me saying it was on some form and my mom needs to pay, i told him to never call again and hung up.
I could not believe this person. I have never had someone call me and yell like that. This is ridiculous and these people need to be reported and shut dow

I receive several calls from this number; it is always a recording saying they are calling with a message for Audri Simmons.  If I am not Audri Simmons, then hang up.  But they keep calling.  I listed to the message once.  It is some collection matter.  Sounds like they say health and financial services.  Directs you to press 0 to speak to a representative, which I did.  Get a recording that the voice mail box is full.  I am going to block this number.

This number called me once last night and 3 TIMES tonight!  All 4 times, I was in class!  When I called it back it went to voicemail, which is full.  I owe NO debt.  So whoever this is, it is a SCAM.  I'm on the Do Not Call Registry.  So I'm reporting this number and then going to verizon to block them.

I  received a call from this number (608-467-0631) also, a couple of times a day in fact.  I never answer since I don't recgonize the number.  Reading the previous posts, stating it is a bill collector confuses me even more.  I'm not delinquent with anyone so that creates a flag for me.  I won't answer, but sure get "ticked" running to a ringing phone only to see it is this number.

Very Very Sad! I suspect this is a bill collection agency. I presume they are looking for the previous owner of my new cell phone number.

I missed their call and when I called back, they refused to identify themselves and asked if I was the name of a person they were looking for. I wrote down the name and Googled it. True Story; the name pulled up a link to an obituary of a young teen age girl from Naperville who passed away in 2009 from brain cancer. When I called one of the individuals back to tell them I did their research work for them, they were arrogant and argumentitive. They are also very unapologetic about disturbing people.

What an unprofessional bunch of rude imbeciles!

"Dennis Mitchell" called here for a relative that has been married for years & has his own home.  When I asked why he was calling us, not his "client", he said my husband signed a legal document for this relative that Dennis had a copy of right in front of him.  He claimed the document was signed in 8/2007.

When I stated I'm the wife of the person he's calling & doubt my husband signed any legal document for a relative in 2007, Dennis backpedaled his story....  Now he said my husband was listed as a reference- BIG difference!

Dennis started speaking over me & being rude, so I promptly slammed the phone down.  Low life, rude collection agency reps!

I just received a call from this number as well and did not answer and they left no message. But, if they do call back I will give them the whistleblower treatment as recommended by a wise elderly lady on one of these sites a few Years back.  When you answer and they start speaking their non-sense, give them three loud blasts of a referee's whistle through the phone....I've used this multiple times over the past few months and it works!  Not one company has ever called back....
