Just received a phone call form 321338061.  Coco Fl cell phone. Man named Eric Smith and his wife Christine 5 year old daughter Jessica visited our church 9 weeks ago. His mother died in a drunk driving accident and their 1995 Olds threw a rod and is totaled.  They need our church to wire $340 for 2 bus tickets.  They will pay us back.  He has a check sitting on his dresser for $520 and will even give us an additional $50...("no I insist").  I came across this website and too many similarities.  Too bad there are folks who do need a hand, and dirty dogs like this tend to make us skeptical to real needs. I left a message telling him I am contacting the police. I am sure I will not hear from him again. Beware.

Sent him $150...At the end he asked me to pray for him and his family on the phone.  That's cold!

I just read all these messages and feel sick!  I got the call late one night about 2 weeks ago from this Scott Coren.  Same story from Fl, Mother killed by drunk driver, car broke down, wife, daughters and the need for $124.12.  My husband said send him $300.  He told us he was from our town but after checking no one has ever heard of him.  I should've waited and checked on that but I didn't as he sounded distressed.  He even asked me to pray for him!  Well, the Lord knows who he is and its His money the man stole from us so I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.  Too bad some folks make it hard to help those who truly are in need.

The guy keeps getting around.  Called me at 3:00 a.m. Tried to counsel through grief with him asking many questions - car breaks down - bus tickets - not enough money - when I told him I could not possibly come up with that kind of money, he just hung up - match for 321-460-3066 came up listed to Koren Scott.

Same story, and I'm out $150. The recent number is 321 460-3066. The call came from Zellwood Florida

Caller said I owed a debt and to call 612 607 2671,  I have no debts.   Con Man I assume.

Scott is quite busy with Gig Harbor chruchs this week (Sept 12th 2010) He had my pastor going round and round on the 14th.  As my pastor would try to ask the right questions there would be a break in conection - then in about 5 to 10 minets he would call back (I suspect he was hoping my pastor would forget where he was in the questions)  He has not called since.

Same story.  Name Scott Corin.  Called me (Pastor) in Nevada at 11:30pm.  Found  this site.  Called Lake Mary Police, Fl.  Gave cell number and information.  Not sure if they responded.  Praise the Lord for 800notes,  Jason.

Some guy just called and did the same scam for our small town church!  Called and gave the same name, Scott Coren/Koren.. said that his mother died and that he had broken down on the Fl. Pike.. asking for money for tickets for his family to come home on the grey hound.. I really felt for the guy and gave him the number of other church members.. We were prepared to help this man because we have a very migrant congregation, we believed that he could have been a member of our church.. I'm so glad that we found this.. We're going to contact the state police and our area churches.. Who rips off the church on Thanksgiving?

Much the same as above; blown rod in Florida, needed bus ticket money home, etc.  I found this site by searching the name he gave me. I do not know what number he called from. He became abusive and threatening when I told him I couldn't help.

Sounds like our friend Scott Koren is at it again.  I was left a message to call about a death.  Micheal and Jennifer, his two kids, attended here a couple weeks ago.  Mom was killed by a drunk driver.  He quoted scripture to me to sound a little more realistic.  The the car threw a rod and bent the engine block on the way to the FL turnpike.  Could I please send him $124 to pay for the kids' bus fare home.  Just Western Union it to the Wal Mart in Ocoee.  I called the local police, but there isn't anything criminal about receiving a gift from a church.

New number - He is using 407.953.0357.  Same story line but I was suspicious when he told me about his girls.  We are a small church, and I know every visitor.  I presented the gospel to him, but hung up when I told him that God could save him from his lies!  Using the name Scott Koren.

Scott Oren scammed our church on Jan. 19, 2009.  Same story mother killed by drunk driver.  91 Olds shot a rod cannot get home, needs money for grey hound. Send money gram through Wal-Mart.

Got the same call this morning.  Said his name was Scott Warren and there was a death in the family.  Wanted to speak to the pastor.  Took his number and called him back.  He has not asked for money but if he calls back we will know to tell him he's busted.

Scott Woren called me with same story. Stranded in Ocoee Fl. Wanted $124 for Greyhound. I called police in Ocoee, waiting for them to call back.

Today, he said he was Scott Woren, that he was in FL having just packed up the belongings of his mother who had been killed by a drunk driver. 40 miles from the Florida Turnpike, his car threw a rod. He asked for money to be sent to the Wal-Mart in Ocoee, FL for bus fare for him and his wife. Early in the conversation he said he, his wife and his 2 daughters had worshiped with us (we have no record of this). I guess the girls didn't make the trip. My daughter suggested I Google the number that came up on my caller id, which led me to this page. "Scott" called again and I told he was busted.

Yes,same Scott, slightly different name. He left a message Sunday morning (1/11)at the church. I called him back on Monday. This time he was Scott Horne. He said his mother died in a drunk driver crash. He hung up during my questioning. Unfortunately, after googling, I discovered there is a Mrs. Horne in Florida who died of a drunk driver crash on 12/30. But the newspaper article list her surviving children and none are Scott. This fella is building a good case against himself as dark and dirty.

Just got this call. I'm in Wisconsin. Same details. As a warning, the guy sobs and works to regain his composure throughout the call. It wasn't until I told him I didn't think we could help him that he showed his true colors.

He exclaimed, "Are you saying you won't help me?"
I replied, "We can't help you financially, but can we help in some other way?"
He said, "Whatever." and promptly hung up.

The same man, but by the name Scott Noren, called our house at 7:20 AM and said that his Mother was killed by a drunk driver and said that he was stranded in Lake Mary, FL. He told me that his car, '91 Olds,had blown a rod and he needed ticket money for Greyhound to get him and his family home from Florida.  He claims that he visited our church 5 weeks ago and has 2 small daughters, ages 3 & 4. He even had the nerve to call back and tell me the name of the store to wire the money to. This guy is a real con artist. BEWARE.

Scott called and left a message to call this number about a death.  It sounded like a scam but we thought we would give it a try.  As soon as the man answered he said "i've been waiting on your call."  When I asked who he was he began to tell me that his wife and two daughters visited our church last week.  I asked him again to identify himself with a last name.  He paused and I pressed him.  "Tell me who you are!"  He replied that his last name was Jo.  I asked, "Your LAST name is Jo??!"  He replied "jo-mama."  That ended our call.

We got a call from Scott Oren or Scott Coren this morning at 9am reporting his mother was killed by a drunk driver and asking for help.

The same man, but by the name Scott Corrin, called our house at 3:04 AM and said that his Mother was killed by a drunk driver and said that he was stranded and asked to get ticket money for Greyhound to get him and his family home from Florida.  He claims that he visited our church 5 weeks ago and has 2 small daughters, ages 3 & 4.  He said that we said his daughters were "so beautiful".

I also got the same call on Dec 8, at 12AM! He got very defensive and called me a liar when I told him that I was checking out his story and saw his name and number on this post.

This guy has called my house twice now. Same story has visited the church before, he is in Florida because his mother was killed by a drunk driver. The number shows up ask a mobile number in MN.
