Computer call -- 'Hello, this is Jacob, how are you today?"  I did not answer and the call ended.  I also do not like talking to computers.  I will report on the DNC listing.

I thought you had to be on a list to get an exchange student.  So right there is a red flag, second red flag is they wanted my credit card number.

So yes this is a scam, go ahead and give them your credit card, and see what happens.

Even if it is legit, I already raised 2 kids and got my youngest in middle school, I have no want or need to raise somebody elses kid who probably can't even speak English.

similar to other posts i received a call and since i hosted students in the past that i got paid for i left my number. got a call a few minutes later with a local number and name on my caller i.d.  talked with the individual and told him i was not interested in an exchange student with no pay.  he told me that he lives in la verne and that he has adult students at the university in la verne that pay. he told me that another woman that coordinates the process would call me.  i am familiar with the scam where the prospective student pays in advance with a money order and then suddenly has to cancel.  the money order is fake but the bank because its an international money order recognizes it later after you refund part of the total of the fake money order before the student arrives.

Get a phone or device (there are several) where you can store numbers to BLOCK unwanted numbers.  Once a call comes in that I no longer want to hear from, it gets saved to a blocked number list saved in the phone.  It will give the unwanted caller an immediate hang-up.    In the telecom world, automated dialers keep track of these codes and after a certain number, usually 2 or 3, the dialer flags your number as unreachable.  Not always but usually they drop your number from their calling database.

Being a child-molester/serial killer in training I thank you for your offer. I'll take 6 boys and 5 girls, all blondes ages 12-16.

How in the heck would they know what kind of creepy thing I really am.

This can only be a scam! My boss called some government agency and was on a waiting list to sponsor an exchange student for over 3 years - went thru more background checks than a person wanting a top-secret clearance! Bragged for weeks after he got the call a kid was coming, showed him off the day after he got here and it was like loosing a member of the family when he left and headed back to France.

Got a call from this #. Said 612 808 5636 - Exchange student on caller id. I'm pretty sure I know what this is, who it's from, and where they are really located. They get #'s from CL. There a Phone scam/theft ring, based out of Mexico. They also use another # that says the call is from florida. They are rerouting thier calls through  servers/providers in diff. states in the US. Calls from FL use the # 813 201 0456 scam of you've won a security sys.,or say they're your sec. provider, and so on, to get info out of you to locate and rob your house.....

Yesterday, I also got a call from 612-808-5636 at 7:33 pm on August 8, 2012.  I wasn't home and the caller did not leave a message.  My caller ID said "Exchange Student", whatever that means.  My number is on the Do Not Call list.  It only takes a minute to post a complaint on donotcall.gov.  Maybe if enough people complain someone will do something about the calls.

'EXCHANGE STUDENT" on caller ID.
It is frustrating for everyone that these callers have no respect for ones privacy.  They abuse anyone's phone number by doing this.  Whenever I see the caller ID or none at all, I push the answer button and immediately push the disconnect button.  This way I don't have to hear their phoney introduction either by a live person or a recording.  I do this to those political calls we get too.  We don't have to put up with answering these calls -- scams, political, business, or otherwise.  Don't waste your time on these idiots that think they can spam you.  Just answer and hit that disconnect button.  Simple way to not get yourself flustered.

Same as above:  Exchange Student.  Let it ring.  Anyway, I am amazed at how of the posters are ignorant about the Do Not Call list.  It is limited to companies that are selling you a product.  So and Exchange Student host request does NOT fall under this preview.  Also, if you contact ANY company about a product they are selling, that gives them the right to call you until you tell them not to call you.  YOU initiated the relationship so it breaks the rules of the DNC list.  (if you notice, the same acronym as the Dem Nat'l Comm, so understandable about rules being broken.)  Also, charities are exempt from the DNC list.  It does not stop political calls, etc.  If you subscribe to a magazine, they can still call you.  Pay attention to what you are signing up for.  Good Grief!

Looking for homes for exchange students?  That's a bunch of balderdash.  Families are standing in ine to be host families for exchange students.  This is a big of scam as the lower your credit card interest scammers.  I just read a news report that officials are going to meet in Oct. to do something about these illegal robo calls.  Now I am getting calls from creditors who are looking for people I don't know nor ever heard of.  So much for the DNC list.   Been on it since it started.  I think that is where these scammers get all of their numbers.  From this DNC list.
There was no response when I answered this call.

The joke is on the people who cannot READ! There is no magic machine that stops telemarketing or scammer calls from getting through. If you get illegal calls, YOU must report them or they will not be stopped nor the people/companies fined. It's pitiful to read how many of you fell for the idea that there is some "Do Not Call Fairy" out there keeping this magic list hooked to the phone lines and cellular air waves so that you won't get unwanted calls. Sheesh.

I bet anything they are using the term 'non-profit' to hide under so they can call. I filed a complaint to the FCC.gov and DNC. I think they are a Marketing firm. They need to be investigated. Kind of weird and creepy with the foreign girls voice and then a mans voice if you follow the prompts. creepy and a big fat lie I am betting on it. worthy of filing a complaint. If they can prove to the FCC they are legit, fine...but I bet not. report these callers.

got call from Exchange Student too. Why would they call me? I am so sick of getting calls like this. They claim to be allowed to call since they are a Non-profit. But I suspect they are NOT non-profit. I filed a claim with Do Not Call and the FCC. This kind of crap needs to stop. They are abusing the system. Why would ANYONE even consider buying something from an unwanted phone call. Using some young foreign woman's voice and then a man's voice if you it the prompts is wrong! Also is this even creepier and possible some sort of cover with children? That is very scary! Are there kids involved, if you get more calls from these creeps you all need to take the time to file a complaints with http://www.fcc.gov/

They are abusing the system like the rest of the annoying telemarketers and need to be stopped. FCC will look into it if they get enough complaints. All of my complaints with calls get filed with the FCC and DNC and many times with the FTC as well. http://www.fcc.gov/

how do they get your phone numbers? do they just randomly pick phone numbers from phone books in every state? I think this is totally weird and would never except any exchange student from a telephone call... they are nuts! I have received two calls from Exchange Student 612-808-5636. No message was left and I will certainly never answer the phone from this number.
