i dont even live in ottawa and my number doesnt exist as never ever been published very fishy how they  got it.....
i too am on the do not call list - the thing about the do  not call list is it is only  good  for 3 to 5 yrs then you need to sign back up  again inorder ot block  these  calls if you  go to there site  you can find out when ur s expires then resign up..... it also takes 30 days before it works..  i had to rejoin recently.., you can can also report infor to thme if you call  or  go ot there site and file report ,they can put you in touch with phone busters to   stop calls . . sometimes if you call your phone provider  and tell thme they  can block the number  for you  or you  cna trace it as some phone companys already have it on your line and its free.

I just called the number and asked to be removed from their list (I was getting the same automated call every day.) The guy I talked to was polite enough about it.

This number belongs to Ottawa This Week, a community newspaper that's apparently going to be launched in Ottawa in the near future. They're looking for people to deliver their papers.

I reported these people to the National Do Not Call List complaints line, who confirmed that the call isn't exempt even though they're a newspaper because they're not soliciting subscriptions. Matt at Ottawa This Week seems to think they are exempt because they're a) a newspaper and b) they're not selling anything.

Matt assured me yesterday (call #2) and again today (call #3) that I would be on their list. I'm not holding my breath on this.

Soliciting jobs as paperboys. This is not in accordance to the Do Not Call List's rules, which states that a newspaper may call you to solicit subscriptions and nothing less.

I called the twit back and he claimed he was not soliciting. Yes, he was. He was not soliciting for newspaper subscriptions, but for delivery people. I filed a complaint with the National Do Not Call List, although that's pretty much useless since there's been hundreds of thousands of complaints about solicitors logged, almost no fines, and what was fined, most is uncollected. The impotent Canadian government at its finest.

Not according to CRTC.  They confirmed that they have received complaints about this number, but the company had cleared everything with the CRTC prior to starting the calls.  Since they are not soliciting for the purpose of selling a product,  they are not technically telemarketers.  They found a loop hole in the system I guess!

I finally got a live person at this number, turns out they are legit.  Got my son and daughter singed up to be newspaper carriers once a week for some extra money.  This is one occasion that telemarketing paid off for me (or at least for my kids).  Recommended to them that they have more operators on the phones though as it took me a while to talk to someone.

Regardless of whether they're offering employment as opposed to selling something, they're violating the National Do Not Call List, which I'm registered with. Even though they're a newspaper, they're not exempt from the NDNCL because the calls are not "soliciting new subscriptions" (an exemption).

I've reported them to the NDNCL complaints line. If you're registered with the NDNCL, I encourage you to do the same.

This number is a company offering employment...not selling anything.  I think it is great that they are targeting youths and seniors for a little extra money every week.  Although the calls can be annoying...I simply asked the gentleman on the phone (Andrew) to add me to their DO NOT CALL list and the calls stopped, pretty simple.  Can not get too mad about people offering employment....

A second call to my household from this number at 5:59 pm on 1-October-2010.  I've again reported to CRTC - who apparently don't do much of anything...  I called the number back and there was a recorded msg:  <You have reached Metroland Media.  All of our agents are currently busy.  Would you please leave your name, number and brief msg.  One of our district reps will call you back.>

Here's the main web site for Metroland Media
http://www.metroland.com/

Here'e the contact info:
http://www.metroland.com/page/Contact

Here's the Ottawa Region Media Group:
http://www.metroland.com/Companies/100023/Ottawa_Region_Media_Group

I promptly send a heated msg to the Regional General Manager.  If you click on any of the names provided, you'll get pop-up web form.

If they are indeed calling to recruit ppl to distribute their publications, to my knowledge they are violating CRTC rules.  Newspapers are only allowed to call for the purpose of soliciting subscriptions.

Not too sure if this is a scam or legit. I wouldn't mind doing something like this once a week for some extra cash but something about the whole setup seems off to me. I tried calling back and it rang forever.  Some guy eventually answered, but didn't even introduce himself so I hung up. Is anyone out there persuing this? Can you tell me if it's legit or not?

I agree with Kathy.  I recv'd a call from this number @ 7:56 pm.  I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize and I don't have voice mail.  When I dialed the number, it rang for infinity...   I'm reporting to CRTC now!
