This dumb a** keeps calling my phone as well. Telling me the police was going to be at my job in a hour to pick me up. Stating that I need to contact my lawyer and my refernces that I listed are going to be picked up as well. Two different men called, one by the name of Joe Martin and the other by the name Adam Smith. They have Arab accents. I kept telling them that I never recieved any cash advances and they kept telling me I did so I hung up the phone and they continuously keep calling back. I ask questions and they seem to get upset. How do you stop people like this from calling your phone. Im going to report them to the FBI Internet Fraud.

Got a call from these guys.  Eric Mathews was his name.  Of course he spoke with a nasty Indian accent, I couldn't understand him half the time.  But They scared me good enough and I fell for it and paid them.  I'm now recieving calls from Erica Meyer and Steven Knox.  Both with WORSE accents than the original jerk...I'm working on figuring out who they are.  The debt institutions I borrowed from told me to not speak or deal with them.

i recived calls from these guys also. they tried everything to get me to pay but everyone should follow in my foot step if you want. i gave them a taste of there own medicine and i kept calling them back and talking to them in the little spanish i knew and kept changing my story and gettting them  all confused then they started to be very unprofessional and getting mad and  swearing at me. then they started to hang up on me everytime i would call. the phone would ring for ten to 15 seconds and they would pick up and hang up. i feel my plan has worked i havent heard from since that day. try it if your willing. one last thing google is very helpful this is how i found out about this website to protect myself and other from getting scammed. good luck to all i hope they dont get a lot of people to fall for thier lies.

Just to let everyone know I contact the FBI and the FTC. The local FBI agency told me that if they can not provide the debt in writing then they can not take you to court or arrest you. This is a SCAM please do not send them money. Also the company in which the men told me was fileing the suit was Instant Cash. I wrote to them and they are very aware that this is happening as they have recieved numerious reports. If you get a call from this number report it, the more people who do the better chance we have to getting them to stop.

Here's what I received from the FCC:

The best way to provide all the information needed for the FCC to process your complaint is to complete fully the on-line complaint Form 1088 which can be found at http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm. The Form 1088 first asks you to select the specific telemarketing activity that you are complaining about, and then directs you to a section of the form that asks specific questions relevant to that activity.

About an hour ago I received a call from this number.  I, too, was told that I was being sued for check/bank fraud and so on.  I contacted my credit counselor and was told to file a complaint as they feel its a scam to get my information.  I never give out anything over the phone to someone I don't know. The woman was very rude and refused to listen to me, so I hung up on her.  My number is on the Do Not Call Registry List and will be filing a complaint with FCC and with my state attorney's office.

I have recieved the same phone calls at work. At first I was stressed becasue I do have some payday loans out but all of them have gotten a payment for me. The man on the phone which I could not understand told me I am being taken to court because of check fraud as when they tried to debit my account I had NSF. My bank send me information if  a check or debit was not paid and sent back and I looked and everyone had been taken care of. When I told the man I never took a payday loan out from this company he said I did and I didn't pay it back. I said I want this in writing as by law you have to notify the consumer in writing he said we can't as payday loans are all paperless. I said well the only loan that I know that had a returned check on they notified me as I was unaware and I paid it so i am not sure what he is talking about and at that point he hung up. I was mad but at work so I couldn't do much. I called back and they said we already told you are being sued for an unpaid debit I said I was aware of my rights and I am going to report them to my local police department as well as the FTC he hung up on me. I had my boyfriend call and they told him because he was a reference on my application he was going to jail he told them he can not be arrested for being a reference and they hung up on him as well. I am pissed off that they are out there doing this to people. I know my rights and I know it is a scam but I want to know how to make the calls stop!! I am going to report them to the FTC and the state attorney's office as well. My boyfriend and I descided to call the everyday and make their lives a living hell :).

I got a very similar call from a number that showed up "out of area" on the caller ID. They stated all the same facts as the other stories. He stated his name was "Sandy" and had a very bad accent. I could hardly understand him. He stated the police would come to my job and arrest me if I didnt show up in court on Thursday. But he couldnt tell me which court. He claimed to be an attorney and his cliamed had filed a complaint against me. He stated his client was "Easy Cash" and they operated over 400 online payday loan sites, so he couldnt tell me which site it was. I hung up on him and he called back.. When I hung up on him again he called back and talked to my supervisor and threated to take my job to court as well for being an "electronic signature" These people are ridiculous and need to be stopped. What can I do. My boss asked for his phone number and they gave 619-399-1692. It is a land line based in California.

this happened to me about 2 months ago, i freaked because i do have pay day loans out. it was sat so i couldnt call any of them so i panicked and gave in. i didnt have full 800 they wanted so i sent them 200 and all my info through fax. than monday came and i called pay day loans and they said my loans were still there. i went to cops and filed report. i called my bank and they said no fraud was under my name. is  i called the place and flipped and told them not to take another dollar out and he said ok good luck than when your in jail and hung up on me. i called bank and changed debit card info.  than they called me next day and i ignored it. now 2 months went by  and i got a call from that number again 714-006-6000  again last night and i made it go vm (well hit the f u botton lol) i guess they didnt like that so they called back and left me a nasty message just like last time threating me. i called cops again and now i have go after work to file another report on harrasment. they couldnt do anything about it before because i did authorize  them to take money out . its such bs and these people have to be stopped, but honestly i think u have nothing to worry about and dont make the same mistake i did and panick and give in. that is what they want.

I got a similar call a couple of days ago.  They were very aggressive and sounded like they could have been Indian or Pakistani.  I asked to speak to a supervisor and they said his name was Frank Jefferson.  He was trying to mask his voice to sound more midwestern in his speech; but I could tell he was had an accent although not as prominent as the other gentleman.

I also received calls similar to you. My job was threatened, and it got to point that everytime my phone rang, I was crying. This company should not be able to harass people and cause mental distress. My supervisor and front desk receptionist had to tell them to stop calling

Deb,
They cannot arrest you and sister, but they may call her so warn her.  Check out the warning from Kansas Attorney General Steve Six at on this page.  Please poet all number and names that they use on this and other websites (whocallsme.com, scamwarners and fraudwatch)  Contact your state attorney genral and file a report. Also file reports with the FBI and Homeland Security.  It is very possbile they will keep calling and threatening you, your sister and your employer.  THEY CANNOT DO THE THINGS THEY SAY!. I know it is nerve wracking and embarrassing to have them calling all these people and saying things about you, but you can't give in.  I have been going through this for a few months and I know how badly it sucks.  Hang in there!

Yes my friend this is scam. I fell for it once and then did alot of research and collected alot of information. If you have ever applied for online for a loan, thats how they got your i fromation, they either bought or stole it.  Since the first call I got in Dec.09 I have been getting about one per month. They all have middle eastern accents with americanized names (Ron Adams, James Brown(lol), Nick Stephans, Prince William (lol again) officer John Matthews) The names and call back numbers always change, they are using technology to mask thier real numbers and may even be calling from outside the country.  They were probably very vague about the time of the loan (telling you it sometime in 08 or 07) and the name of the company (saying it runs over 50 payday loan companies so they can't tell excatly which one had the loan) They will tell you that you are about to be arrested unless you settle the matter, this is false, it is threat to get you to pay, they are trying to scare you.  They wiil also threaten to call your work and anyone you used as a reference, this is another scare tactic.  One did go so far as to call my employer. I had already informed my employer about the situation. Theyt may even call your references.  This may be embarrasing, but they cannot do anything to any one!!! Report these calls the names and numbers they are using to your state attorney general, the FBI and Homeland Security as well as the FTC.  Also check the FTC website, and make sure you know your rigths unbder the Fair Debt Collection Act.  Also  post thier names and number on this site, whocallsme.com and scamwarners.com.  I feel for you, these people are making me dread everytime the phone rings, I hope they get found a deported back to wherever they came from.

I called the local police dept and he came and called the number back and if this had been a real attonerys office I dout they would of got rude with the police office and then hung up. The thick accented male keep telling me good luck and god bless that they were trying to help me and i was denying their help.. Real Law Offices would send paper work and speak clear english dont ya think? I have never had this happen to me before so it very badly freaked me out... Unbelieveable. Consumer Alert: Attorney General warns Kansans of debt collection scam

January 29, 2010 -- Attorney General Steve Six is cautioning Kansas consumers about telephone calls from apparent fake debt collectors who are impersonating law enforcement officers in an effort to extort money from consumers.   Consumers are warned to not submit payments to these fraudulent debt collectors.

When calling, the scammers most often state they are attempting to collect a debt related to an internet payday loan obtained by the consumer, but which the consumer never repaid.  Consumers state they have never obtained such a loan or paid off the loan years ago.  The scam artists have most recently identified themselves as ACS, National Affidavit Processing Department and United Financial Crime Division, but may use additional phony names.  It appears the phone numbers used by the scammers are ?spoofed? numbers, so that the number appearing on a consumer?s caller ID is not the actual number of where the call originated. It appears the calls in question may be originating from outside the United States.

When questioned, the individual calling refuses to disclose the full name or address of the collection agency they claim to represent.  These scammers have been able to provide consumers with identifying information, such as the consumer?s social security number, home address, e-mail address, names of family members and the consumer?s computer IP address.  Since the callers are able to provide valid personal information, consumers may become confused and believe they are being contacted in regard to a legitimate debt.

If the initial debt collection scam is unsuccessful, consumers have been re-contacted months later with the scammers posing as law enforcement officers or officers of the court.  Typically, the consumer is threatened with arrest for fraud or some other fictitious crime unless the consumer agrees to immediately wire money via Western Union.  The fictitious officers strive to frighten and confuse consumers into compliance by using legal sounding terms such as ?We?re filing an affidavit against you? or by stating a lawsuit has been or is in the process of being filed against the consumer.

A hallmark of each scam has been calling consumers repeatedly at their place of employment.  This scam hit home when an employee of the Kansas Attorney General?s Office was repeatedly called both on her cell phone and at work.  Despite the employee?s repeated verbal disputes, the caller refused to provide any identifying information to allow her to send a written dispute. The scammer also continued to call her numerous times a day regarding a payday loan she denied obtaining. Two months later, she was again contacted by telephone by an individual identifying himself as an ?officer?.

?I denied owing the debt and refused to pay without being provided validation of the debt. I was then told, ?If that?s the case, I will have local law enforcement come to your place of business and drag you out kicking and screaming?,? stated the employee.

?It is important for consumers to know their rights under the law,? Attorney General Six said. ?If a consumer is receiving calls from a debt collection company and believe it is a scam, I encourage them to contact our office immediately.?

Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), collectors are required to send consumers a written notice within five days of the initial contact.  The notification should contain  information such as the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed and a statement informing the consumer they have thirty days to contact the debtor in writing to dispute the debt or request validation of the debt. In addition, legitimate debt collectors are prohibited by the FDCPA from making false or misleading representations, such as the consumer has committed a crime, implying nonpayment will result in the consumer?s arrest, or using the threat of violence.

More information is available on the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf.

To register a complaint with the Kansas Attorney General?s Consumer Protection Division, call 1(800) 432-2310 or visit www.ksag.org.

I rec'd a phone call from this number claiming to be a law firm and sueing me for: Violation of Bank Regulations, Theft by deception, Collateral.  They claim that I borrow money from a pay day loan business and never paid them back.  They told me that they were going to come to my job and I was going to lose my job, they asked me if I had dependents  and said the child protected services were going to take care of them when I am in jail, They kept asking me if I had 5, 000 to hire a lawyer to help me with this case.  They all had an accent and were very aggresive.
