You are correct.  My son just arrived in San Diego at the Marine base.  This is the number he called from to let us know he arrived.

All I heard when I picked up the phone was 'Petty Officer' and the person wanted to verify my number but would not identify themselves when asked to repeat their introduction and reveal identity.  Likely a pay/base phone good for calls home and drinking buddies having fun. They finally admitted to having a wrong number and hanging up.

Speaking as prior military, this is a generalized number that shows up anytime someone from a San Diego base calls you, to protect the actual number for security purposes. There is no way to trace back who actually called.

I received a phone call from this number on 4/2/12 at 11:00 a.m. it was a male voice and he said he must have the wrong phone number as he was looking for the Construction Crew. I had a Construction crew at the property working so I said, wait are you sure, gave my place of business and asked if he was looking for that contractor. He said again, no I must have the wrong number and hung up. The whole thing was just odd because as soon as he heard my voice he started saying he knew he had the wrong number.

I just got a call from (619) 524-6200 on my internet phone about an hour ago... no message. I called it back and get a phone co. message that says the number is not valid. Sketchy...

I got a call from this # and it turned out being from Fleet & Family Support in San Diego. Just FYI...

I keep getting calls from this number, and I just plain do not answer calls from numbers I do no know. When I call it back, it rings once, and then a message comes on saying all circuits are busy and gives some code. Personally, I would prefer not to get a call from something I cannot call back.  I would much rather have a message saying it is a military number that doesn't receive incoming calls.  Oh well!!!

I got a call at 2 a.m. central time. It sounded like a brawl, my son just arrived at Camp Pendleton first day yesterday. Sounded like him screaming in the background in pain. Loud noise, I asked who is this and someone unknown to me said who the hell is this and hung up. Calling back is not allowed. I dont want to get him in any trouble.

It is a general switchboard number for the Naval Base.  Even if the phone call is from a different number, it will just show that number for security reasons.

it's a general military number and usually if you call it back it says you are unauthorized to call it.  my hubby calls me from it when he's at work.

got a call 10pm ct. last night  ummm idk why ?????  i just got my number changed a month ago .. and ever since i got my # changed all i get is random #s.. but nothing from the Navy .

That is the number used by any naval or coast guard vessel docked at station sand diego. it's a universal number. that is why when u call it back it sayd that it is a non working military number. nothing to be alarmed about.
