They call several times a day. I answered once and they guy had me on the phone for over 20 minutes trying to get me to check out their resort and if I did I'd get a vacation to Hawaii, Vegas, or Orlando.

The catch is a $20 deposit on a CC to reserve the visit to the Welk Resort. I declined the offer and hung up.

I've received two voicemails since that call advising me to get a pre-paid CC at Walmart so I can make my deposit to the Welk Resort, since they "assume you didn't make the deposit for fear of security of your credit card. I understand..." WRONG, I just don't want to pay for something they are offering me for "free".

Don't answer this call!!!

For such a great deal, why are there so many complaints about it at various sites?  Yelp gives it a 2 of 5 star rating (with 325 reviews) and consumeraffairs.com only shows a 1 of 5 star rating (and no ratings posted higher than 2 stars).
http://www.yelp.com/biz/welk-resort-escondido
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/travel/welk_resort.html

Among the reoccurring complaints listed are high pressure sales pitches, broken promises to downright lies made about what is being sold, and poor facilities maintenance.

As to the claim of a "90" minute presentation, many of the reports are that for those who don't sign eagerly, that "90" minutes extends to 4-5 hours of high pressure sales pitches.  That's not just a "movie", that's a full blown Star Trek or Lord of the Rings marathon.  Of course, I'd rather sit through the film marathon than sit through some jerk extolling the "virtues" of their timeshares.  Then again, I'd also rather not tie up my money in a "vacation spot" that I can only use for a week or so a year, when I could use that same money to vacation where I want, when I want at various times through the year.

If I watch Star Trek, I get the heck off the planet also for a couple of hours of my time, I get to take a trip to a galaxy far far away for more adventures and fun with Star Wars! Watch Xena and Hercules, I get to transport back in time and read a book ..  and the possibility's are endless!

Now whats that about vacations?

1. Do not give out your personal info at events if you don't want to be contacted. Period. 2. They do not leave messages because if they did you would never call back. They want to catch you so they can pitch you and be able to answer questions and address concerns( like you thinking it's a scam). 3. They do not require a purchase, simply 90 minutes of your time. You have all watched a terrible movie I am willing to bet and I'm certain you did not get any gifts at the end of it. You'll spend 20 bucks at a fair to win a stuffed animal for your kid or girlfriend but you're complaining about a timeshare presentation for a vacation. You should really rethink your complaints.

Some marketing/entertainment/timeshare company.
They got my info after I filled an entry for a contest in an IKEA store (San Diego).
I called back, politely asked to be removed, et voila :)

The san diego resport is very nice... they offered a hawaii vaction for 2 nights... if you are ever offered anything through Travel America... it is a scam Travel America still owes me a 2 night Hawaii stay and cant deliver...

But Welk then offered me a stay in a 5 star resort for 99 a night...   if I did a 1 hour tour...

It was a very nice resort!!! well worth the 99 per ight rate they gave... great vacation...

just dont take the hawaii trip they offer through Travel America

They've called me three times. one was a missed call the other I answered and some guy spoke asking for the owner of the house so I hung up, and then right now like 5 minutes ago. I don't know how they got my number, I'm 16, how am I supposed to buy a timeshare? So from now on I'm just not going to answer because if you don't, they just stop calling eventually. I've tried it before.

Yes it is welk resort group. They try to sell you time shares while they give you a tour. They offered to give me a 7 day vacation to mexico for free, but i settled for a 2 night trip to vegas instead. BUT it's not entirely free. the flight and hotel are paid for, but you have to pay $80 tax to the travel agency to go to vegas. Not bad if you have the time to take a vacation. Dont waste your time if you dont have the time to vacation. I did also get a free winery tour at la cereza just for staying there for an hour and a half, which was pretty nice. AND I'm going to vegas next month for only 80 bucks. YAY! I've been to time share presentations before, and this one has definately been the nicest. They dont really pressure you much to buy or force you to stay and listen to their sales pitch for hours. just get some free stuff from them if you get a chance.

Looking at this post Welks Resort makes sense. They called a few months ago and said I was selected from a contest from Ikea. They said I was invited to spend time at their resort. They ask for a down payment of $20 and they promised all these cool items. When I recieved the e-mail, there it was.. timeshare. I then cancelled my appt becuase I did not want to waste my time. The guy called upset I cancelled the appt. I had not heard from them for a while and they have started calling again, but now they are using a different #. They ar very aggressive and very deceiptful. They are a real resort but they are using telemarketers. Just don't answer their call. If you want a timeshare, just Google it yourself.

The Welk Resort is in Escondido, CA (which is in San Diego county) but the area code around Escondido is 760.

The 619 number is from Soleil Communications, the Welk Resort call center which is located in the city of San Diego, CA.

Yes, they are trying to set appointments to sell timeshares.

Keeps calling but leaves no messages.  The caller ID says Welk Resort.  I've looked them up and the numbers don't match. Not even the area code.  I think it might be a scam.  Be careful.
