I had exactly the same thing happen. I finally decided to put the number in and so the search. I write so I thought that it may be someone I met at some event. Another cagey scam has befallen us.

Contact your cell carrier and report the number as a nuisance number and request it be blocked. Inquire if they offer a service to black list numbers so they can not call or message you at all, Verizon lets you block up to 5 for free.
Also inquire if you can forward the text to 7726 aka SPAM:

"Do not respond to unwanted texts or emails from questionable sources. Several mobile service providers will allow you to forward unwanted spam texts by simply texting it to 7726 (or ?SPAM?) to enable the providers to prevent future unwanted texts from the specific sender. "
If you have a smart phone, there are many anti-spam apps. Check your phone's app store.

Same thing here, message sent via text with my name in it, stating working at home making thousands from home. Who is giving these people permission to send fake text. Totally wrong.

got a text with a link to a fake CBS news website. It was an article about making 10k a week from home. Had my correct name in the message. The only time I give out my name/number is for official paperwork and the cell phone company........
