When I answered, no one said anything. Eventually hung up. Why do they even call?

Called and asked for the homeowner by name. When asked who was calling they kept saying the homeowner's name and eventually hung up. Lots of noise in the background like a typical call center. The caller's accent seemed slightly southern or from the California Desert. In other words, it sounded like a kind of ignorant drawl that really gets my blood boiling. Caller ID showed "DIR ASST CA" which I assume is directory assistance. The 555 prefix is allowed, only 555-0100 through 555-0199 are reserved for fictional use (see Wiki article).

The background noise sounded like telemarketing or research. With a familiar air, he asked for my husband by his first name only. I said he wasn't home and offered to take a message but he had hung up by then. Now the doors and windows are locked and I'm worried - great! Just what I wanted on this beautiful day. Only Hollywood uses the prefix of 555. Are there real numbers?
